This school has a positive staff which cares for their students. I was howeve,r shocked to see the A rating considering our FCAT scores are still below state average and have not improved much since the year before. I agree with the other parent that because of the many low children that a teacher has to reach in relatively overpopulated classrooms the brighter children may not be challenged enough. This is an issue we must present to our congress to ask for smaller class size because one teacher with no help has a difficult time reaching 25+ children's individual needs at all times.

It seems teacher morale is very low at Little River. I'm worried about what teacher my child will get next year, will all the good teachers be gone? Why are they all leaving? On a happier note I think the office staff is top notch.

As students move up a grade there seems to be a wider gap in intellegence within each class. The teachers spend too much time educating students to bring them up to speed which leaves the brighter students unchallenged. The standards for passing a grade need to be challenged and force students, and teachers, to earn their advancement.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science and writing in grades 4, 8 and 10. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
