My second child is in 6th grade there now. I found it to be a good experience for my older son when he was there as well. I have found that the teachers and staff are very responsive if you reach out to them; they are very quick to respond to emails. At the Open House, I noticed that the teachers all seem to very proud of the students and seem very happy to be there. The principal, Dr. Border seems to be well respected by the teachers and staff. I have not noticed very much turnover in the years between my children attending. My daughter is feels very safe there. The transitions into the school from elementary school, and from HCMS to FHS were both very easy for the kids.

The last of my three children will be graduating this year from HCMS. Overall it has been a great experience for us. They were high performers (top 95%tile) and the school kept them challenged. The music program is also exceptional for a Middle School.

My son is in 6th grade at this school. So far I have been disappointed in the quality of teaching and the lack of communication between parents and teachers. There is no homework to speak of, and my son (in adv. classes) is not challenged at all. Zero communication from the teachers makes me feel like my son fell into a black hole once he started attending this school.

The academic programs are excellent they are an A rated school. They have many great programs in music which my son was involved in as well as many other extracurricular activites. The only negitive thing I would say and I didn't know this til I started this inquiry into the school where where are moving is it,s a as my son just told me ' It's a very smart school but its a rough school there are at least a couple fights a week.' He also just told me it always seems to be the same kids and the school was good for expelling those who were repeat offerners. He said as long as you were smart enough you just stay away from the trouble makers. He did enjoy almost all of his teachers.

We moved to the area specifically to be in the HCMS district and were not disappointed. At the age where teenagers are susceptible to much distractions and do not focus on academics as well as they should the HCMS faculty actively get involved with comprehensive teacher/student/parent communications. Our daughter like many others went through this spell and fell of the trail a bit but with the right coaxing and mentoring really turned it around by the time she graduated from 8th grade. A disinterested average to bad student turned into an enthusiastic good to very good student that is rearing to start high school. The teachers at HCMS are open and very responsive. In our daughters case they did adjust some classes to assist her development positively. The academic programs are challenging (as they should be) and our daughter participated in the choir - the seasonal shows are a joy!

Being first year parents of a middle schooler, we didn't know what to expect. We'd hoped for the same level of responsiveness we received during our son's elementary school years; however, we found that was not the case, at least at HCMS. In all fairness, other middle schools may have this problem, and problem, yes it was. We found it very disturbing that when we had a concern or inquiry we had to go through several obstacles before receiving a response, if a response was received at all. Not to confirm the old cliche 'one bad apple - spoils the bunch', there were outstanding staff members that held up to their end of the commitment to provide excellent education and support; and then there were the less desirable apples that made you regret your child attended the school all together. Overall, our son's experience at HCMS could have been better.
