I had a bad experience this year. The staff tries, but there is not enough communication with parents. My sons progress was ot know until I recieved his graded papers 3 weeks later. More organization and more experienced teachers could bring the school from ordinary to extrodinary. Also work need to be done on the web site to give parents a centralized place to gather information. I'm an educated parent that had a difficult time following the teachers lesson plan, it seem to be all over the place. Lesson plans should be well organized and have a clear plan for what students should be learning on a daily, monthly and yearly basis.
Our new principal and the increased focus on student acheivement has brought us from a 'C' school to a 'B' school. I really don't understand why our rating is so low. Read the parents opinions and look at the Florida DOE data. We are moving from 'Ordinary to Extraordinary'!
'Having been actively involved with Pinewood since the school first opened nine years ago (1 Senior accepted into U.S. Naval Academy, Honor Roll Eighth Grader, Honor Roll Fourth Grader, and 1st Grader) I can confidently say that the staff is excellent and works very hard. I have noticed that classrooms are starting to get crowded but the teachers can't control that. FCAT scores alone shouldn't cast a shadow over good teachers. Parents must realize that in order for their children to be successful a vibrant partnership with their children's educators and administrators must be formed and maintained. Failure to nurture that partnership in the foundation years (K-5) only sets children up to struggle in their later years of school. Thank you Pinewood Staff for all you do!'
The school is overcrowed, curriculum is good, theachers do the best they can but the classrooms are full with students and no enough time to get individualize teaching. If your kid is a slow learner good luck, that is not the best place for him or her.
The staff at Pinewood Elementary are excellent. My two older kids that have already graduated were well prepared for Middle school. My youngest is still attending this school and she will be even better prepared than her older siblings. I cannot thank the staff of Pinewood Elementary enough for thier hard work and dedication to our children's success. Thier efforts, along with a solid educational support structure at home, will ensure that your child becomes a successfully and well rounded student.
