This is the most horrible school my son has ever attended! The school is not safe. Do not send your child here. Send to Legacy, it's a much better school.
My son does awesome at this school, hes almost done with 8th grade and an A B student!!!Good Job to the teachers and staff at Corner Lake Middle School!
My daughter has went there for two years and is is begging me not to go back for her eighth grade year. She does not feel safe and has had many instances of bullying and sexual harrassment by other students. When the kids that had done the harrassing were confronted they just denied it and nothing else was done by administration. She also knows many kids who use drugs and sell them at school. It may be an A school, but I give it F for safety, and caring about the kids.
I should add I am seriously considering removing both my children from the public schools and home-schooling them where they would receive love and acceptance no matter how they are dressed or how much money their parents make or what kind of car their parents drive.
Teaching staff & curriculum are Great-My son has been there 2 years and absolutely loves it. My son has been treated very well at the school and even put into programs to benefit him during summer camp
its a awesome school dont listen to the other women or man its the best school i know of and safes and and teachers have Great response to the parents (to me and my childs friends parents) a A school too..I really dont get what the other peoson was talkin about I would never take my Kid out of corner lake
Poor teacher response to parents. Unsafe. Below average curriculum. Pulled my son out and put him in private school which was much better.
I have a child going to CLMS. It is a good school to go to. CLMS EAGLES has been an A school for 4 years
I have had two children go through Corner Lakes, and I feel they really challenge the children to do their best. The teachers try to ensure clear communication with the parents and students academics and their difficult growth changes during their pre-teen ages
I have found Corner Lake Middle School to have an excellent academic's program. Although there are times that communication to individual parents has been lacking, it is rare and not constant. My e-mails are often responded to within 48 hours. I find his acceptable when teachers are given over 100 students per day in their care. I prefer the block system in school as it allows for more class time in each class, thus less homework. My daughter participates in sports outside of the school system and sometimes homework is a real challenge.
I think this school is great. my child has learned so much. At her old school she was very advanced in math and all ways a head of the other students, when I transfered her over to Corner Lake Middle School they saw her grades and quickly put her in advance classes. I think the principal is trying his best to keep the school as safe as possible and I think he is doing a great job. My child loves all her teachers and loves her school. I haven't had any trouble with her school.
We were in the seminole county school system until my son completed 6th grade. There, he excelled in advanced classes and LOVED school. Orange County has been a BIG disapointment. Corner Lake teachers NEVER return parent's phone calls/emails. The 'Block' system keeps students from having the same class every day and it's confusing for parents to follow their student's schedule. What happened to the traditional 1st-6th period, daily agenda? The benefit to this system is completely unknown to me. My son is in 7th grade and he's bored at school. The material they are teaching in their 'Advanced' classes, he already had in 5th and 6th grade in Seminole County - very sad! He went from a challenging curriculum and daily homework, to work he can EASILY skate through and almost no homework at all. We have put our home on the market and are anxious to return to Seminole County!
My son attends Corner Lake Middle school and he has a learning disability. I think that the school has poor communication skills between the teachers/administrators and it's parent. The administrators should review their SLD programs/model/approach and see what areas need improving. The school administrators should also get more qualified teachers in place to work with SLD students. More emphasis should be placed on reading comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluations, spelling, and vocab. The administrator should try to understand that parents with children who have SLD are only concern for their child education and have every right to question the school. We need to work together to make a difference in our children's live.
The school is an A rated school for academics; however, I give it an F for safety and security of students, and extra help with homework. My son is in his second year there and every week, he is bullied and assaulted by other students. I stopped informing the faculty and staff and told him to defend himself. I asked the school to refer me to a qualified tutor( at my expense) for 2 years and have had no assistance on this matter. There is no opportunity for before or after school help because he rides the bus and he is unable to get there for the hrs available for students at the school. Every school should have a list of qualified tutors for referrals for academic coaching to students to ensure their academic success. Corner Lakes needs to hire more teachers assistants as tutors, and deputies to prevent assaults and bulling.
I feel the school gets its grading from teaching children that knowledge or attention comes easier for rather than challenged children like my son. I have been fighting with orange county schools for years and this school just is the cherry on the cake.
The teachers here are very dedicated and devoted to the children. The exploratory programs at CLMS are exemplary.
I just found this site today and was impressed that as a parent I can be verbal about my feelings towards the education my 12 year old should be getting versus what he is getting. The teachers as well as the three principals at this school do not reply to e-mails or phone calls in a timely matter if they respond at all. My son went from 'A' and 'B' to 'C' in a matter of weeks and yet the teachers did not send an e-mail or call even though since the first day of school I have told all of them to please contact me if they see a problem starting with schoolwork/homework and I am yet to get one response. I just had a meeting with all of his teachers only to find out his grades are all dropping. There are about 30 other parents here in our little town that feel the same way as myself. Either the kids need to learn or they need to replace the teachers and principals.
I liked this school when my daughter went to it. My son goes now and all I can say is the school has went down hill. You don't get info on anything until the newsletter is mailed to you and that is about two months behind. If you email the front office about anything you will never hear back from them. You have teachers using the FCAT as a grade and I found out that is a big no, no. My son has one more year and he will be out of this school but then he has little brother that will be going there in 4 years. Maybe things will turn for the best.
