Moving a family of 5 to the Orlando area, with 1 pre-schooler, 1 elementary kid, and 1 High Schooler. We have been looking at the Hunters Creek area, Lake Buena Vista and Ocoee areas. Looking for recommendations for excellent schools and a good family oriented community.
First, try http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/ One link to help you narrow down the search for each school.
Second, talk to a real estate professional. Even if you're renting when you first move there, a real estate pro knows where the great neighborhoods are, which neighborhoods are affiliated with really good schools, and where the amenities are.
Finally if you are moving for a job, talk to the HR department and see what they know about the area. They can even set you up to talk to a coworker with kids your kids' ages and they can tell you where to look.
Check out East Orlando - Waterford Lakes area (zip code - 32828). Waterford Lakes is a very family friendly area, lots of shopping, close to highways. Hunters Creek is ok, not the best area. Looks can be deceiving there, depending on which part of Hunters Creek. Lake Buena Vista is a tourist haven, lots of traffic and tourists there. Do your research on Ocoee in regards to nice and not so nice areas. 77699
We moved here last year from Hawaii and choose a house in the school zone for East Lake Elementary (it's on the edge of Orlando closer to Bithlo) this school is awesome! It is rated a 9 out of 10! The Middle And High school I am not sure of since I only have Elementary age kids. You would have to research the middle and high school. The neighborhood we bought in is Corner lake Estates and I love it hear very peaceful but still close to shopping only about 15-20 minutes drive. I would look at greatschools.com it helped us a lot at finding a home. I wouldnt go just on reviews though, parents only seem to find a way to write things about the school when something bad happens. If there's 1 or 2 bad comments in a year then it's probally just cicumstansial...but if you notice a lot of bad comments in 1 school year then it's probally best to cross it off the list...:)We would find a home then search for the schools in that area...it took looking at many schools and homes before we found this one. Hope this helps good luck!78583
