My daughter went to school there in the late 80's - My son is currently a 5th grade student and has been there since grade 1. I have nothing but compliment about this school. Every teachers I have dealt with was caring and competent.

Our experience at Tomoka has been nothing short of amazing. The faculty all greet my child by name every morning and seem genuinely interested in each child. My daughter's kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Bernacchi and she really made the year extraordinary. She goes above and beyond her job to make sure her students are taken care of. We can not wait for another amazing year at Tomoka!

Tomoka Elementary is a school devoted to it's students and their success. The teachers are caring and dynamic in teaching a love of learning to all. Our PTA works hard to support our school, students, families, faculty and staff. Our administrators go above and beyond to insure a safe and nurturing environment for our children to learn. Tomoka is an example of everyone working together to insure the very best education and future for our children.

Tomoka is more than a school, it is many families that becomes one from the first day of school to the last. It does not stop there, if there is a child or a family who needs help in the summer they are there to help in any way they can. We are family, I am a grandmother of several students, I have been associated with many schools this is the best I have known.

I am so happy to have my child attending this school. This school is so focused on the educational development of children and the children here are wonderful and seem to blend well together. The teachers are the best around. The parent involvement is above and beyond spectacular. The gifted program is superbly planned and the teachers are to be commended. This school is tops in the area and turns out well-rounded, respectful students.

This school has very strong leadership and an excellent faculty. The school is safe and supports a caring and family-like environment. Faculty longevity is high with lower grade teachers maintaining interest in their students through 5th grade graduation. Strong music program and an evolving art program. P.E. program is well-rounded and well thought out for all ages and abilities. Tomoka has had 100% PTA membership for several years with a good leadership team and tremendous parent involvement volunteering within the classrooms as well as fundraising activities. I highly recommend this elementary school.

This is a good school for a public school. If you have a child who does well in school but not test well on standardized tests this school is not for them!!

This school is fantastic. I am more than impressed with the teachers and administrators. My daughter entered pre-k with an iep for a significant speach and language delay. Within 6 months she has improved so much that she's now within the average range. Most schools just pull them out of class for a few hours a week to go to speech but tomoka is the only school in volusia county with specialized speech and language classrooms for this age group.

I found Tomoka to be a horrible school in which discipline for violent acts are punished by 'speaking' to the attacker and allowing the attacker to return to the classroom to finish out the day. Also, the parent is not notified of their child being violently attacked until their child returns home from school with a note from the nurse clearly stating the cause for the wound. Ridiculous to say the least and my child has been immediately removed from this school.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science, and in grades 4, 8, and 10 in writing. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
