This school is great! I volunteer at Surfside on several occasions. Sure there are issues with children getting in trouble (as there are in all middle schools in the country), but this school has Zero tolerance for bad behavior. I have seen 4 students get into trouble this year, and they were immediately EXPELLED!! The only bad remarks I have heard from parents have been from the parents who were picking up their children who had caused the trouble. My child has seen none of this bad behavior, the staff has handled each issue extremely well. The teachers are all very kind to my child, as well as the other children. Students at Surfside are given the opportunity to excel in their academics with support from teachers, office staff and parents. Dr. Harrell is very connected with the students, she knows most (if not all of them) by name. I am proud to be a Surfside parent!

We pulled our son out of this school. Surfside Middle has been the worst experience with any school ever. The Principal is detached and seems to never be available. We had an issue with a teacher who did not return calls and the administrators(secretaries) are not professional, incompitant and rude. We had a meeting with them where they did not take minutes of the meeting. When I brought it to there attention they did, but left out important facts and refused to add them. I added my own comments and signed off on it. Then, the administrator started editing my statement after I had signed it! A few days later they let somone else take my son home after missing the bus. They refused to allow him to call us and the person who picked him up was not on the list of approved people. The administrator told me that they were not responsible because the log where he signed in to the office to try to call us was a few minutes after "school hours" They also took cash for afundraiser and did not deliver the products, and have not had any refund. NOTICE!! all the great ratings on this site are from teachers from the school or students, no parents.

Fantastic school! I've been familiar with Surfside for several years. My two children attend, and I am on the faculty. Surfside offers excellent academics, as well as a plethora of sports, electives, and extra curricular activities. There is definitely a team atmosphere, both inside and outside of the classroom. Teachers truly care for their students, and administration and staff are top notch. It's a pleasure being a part of such an environment.

I use to go out there befor i got homeschooled my 8th grade year. The principal likes to play favorites alot. I had no problems with the teaches except one. Thers a problem when the teacher tells the class to ask a friend for help when hes the teacher. And when the principal thinks that the students are makin it up. I sure didnt see her do anything when almost every student at that schooled got pulled out to get homeschooled.

This is an incredible place to work! I love teaching my students on a day to day basis, enjoy whole heartedly my subject, love working in a team atmosphere, and believe my administration is the best in Northwest Florida. Here's to the home of the Sharks!!!
