North Bay Haven Charter Academy is a well-rounded, futuristic preparatory campus that is preparing my student for a medical career while allowing other areas of interest to be fostered. And the new campus is coming along well. Kudos!
This school has been the best experience ever. My children are encouraged to do their best all the time. They are surrounded by other children with good manners and a good attitude to learn. The school is clean and up to date. I can't say anything negative about this school. I love it and my children love it.
Bay Haven is an outstanding school. The teachers and adminstrators are excellent and geninuely care about their students and their success. They encourage the students to do their very best and the students strive to be successful. High expectation, high achievement! This is evident from the success of the students as well as the school. However, parental involvement is also a key contributor of the students success. It definitely is a partnership and should be! One could not ask for a better education for their children. Top notch curriculum for the students. I have a 4th grader there and have had other children attend Bay Haven as well. Parent/teacher communication is paramount and does exist. Teachers utilize various tools of communication to ensure parents are aware of their child's progress. First Class Education! Thanks Dr. Kitts for the vision and implementing it!
I have two sons currently in 2nd and 3rd grade at Bay Haven. Having grown up in a foreign country and gone to an excellent private Catholic school all through high school, I am happy to see my children in a similar educational environment where they are constantly challenged and pushed. The teachers we've had so far have been terrific. They preach a balance of strict compliance and positive encouragement. Bay Haven is run more like a private school but with greater diversity. My only worry is that school expansion could signal compromising the high academic and learning standards. Bay Haven is a big reason we have chosen to live in Panama City.
Bay Haven Charter Academy is an OVERRATED school. My child is currently in the 1st grade and does well academically, however, everything she learns is in preparation for the FCAT. I am already looking into homeschooling my child for next year. If you are a parent looking for an education that extends beyond the FCAT and want to see your child become their own individual then please do not buy into their hype.
Better than Holy Nativity without the exorbitant private tuition fee! Excellent teachers (they know their content, are respectful of students and parents, respond quickly to communication, control their classrooms, and hold their students to high standards), Good school leadership (they hire excellent staff and try to create an environment where staff have a vested interest in staying) and a challenging academic curriculum. My children have attending school at a local private school and at schools in several other states and the parents are more involved at this school than any other. This is exactly what public schools should be like. The only reason that I did not give it a 5 is because I think the communication between teachers & administration and parents/students is lacking. Otherwise, exceptional.
Overall excellence in academia and encouragement.. Our child flourishes in this environment educationally, emotionally and athletically. I love that they teach the entire spectrum of subject matter and not just 'teaching to the FCAT' as so many public schools do. The stricter dress code policy is admirable and teaches structure and equality. The personal learning plans for each individual student ensures maximum growth potential. Successfully completing this methodically prolific system almost certainly guarantees entry into the college preparatory high school path. It is surely raising the bar for the entire education system in Bay County.
I have two children who attend Bay Haven- I have found they offer no room for individuality and my children are being indoctrinated into FCAT mode as early as 1st grade. While it's a better choice than public, I am not pleased with this FCAT factory.
I attended Bay Haven for five years, beginning in 4th grade and going all the way through the 8th grade. While most students claim to hate the dress code and strict no-nonense policy, I was one of the few that could admit that Bay Haven really was tops in education and preperation for future academics. The teachers at Bay Haven are all experienced, helpful, and intelligent people. They're mostly always willing to answer questions and provide extra help for students who need it, and and they try to make learning as effective and expansive as possible. The only complaint is that Dr. Kitts, the principal, seems detatched and uninvolved in the happenings of the school. He's sometimes hard to get in touch with and even harder to get a real chance to talk to. Overall, I do believe that Bay Haven has prepared me well for my high school
Bay Haven is an amazing school. I still cannot believe it is a public school. The administration and faculty is top notch and so friendly. I am so happy my child has the opportunity to attend Bay Haven.
Bay Haven is a truly exceptional school. I was one of the lucky ones who child was picked in the lottery to attend beginning with Kindergarten. The interaction I have had with all the teachers, faculty and staff has been wonderful. They are all very kind, thoughtful and really love the kids. They strive for academic excellence so the class rooms and lesson plans are very structured and demanding which in this day and age is needed for the children to get ahead. I am amazed how much my child has learned over the last two years. She loves reading and this is encouraged by her teacher by giving her more demanding material. The teachers have been able to give each child individual attention because of the enormous amount of parental involvement in the classroom. It is required that each family volunteer 25 hours per year to assist the school. Several parents put in time above and beyond what is required which I am sure is why this school is so exceptional. The only downside is that the kids need to leave after completion of the 8th grade. Too bad that it doesn t go all the way through 12th .
i am a student at bay haven and i enjoy being there i learn so much and all the tearchers are great.!:)
I am a parent of multiple children at Bay Haven as well as employed at the school. I can tell you from experience being with the school since the second year of inception that the academic standards are high. HOWEVER, the teachers, staff, Reading coaches, speech therapist, office administration and staff, all the way to the custodial care and aftercare are all concerned about the children and all watch the campus to insure the safety of the children. There are programs to assist the students and teachers as well as staff go out of their way and are very giving of their time to assist students in need. We are blessed to work there and be in a nuturing and positive environment with the children. Along with high academic standards there are also high behavioral standards. Parent involvement is required and that I believe is the KEY!
Our family has had a wonderful experience at BHCA. Our youngest son has attended BHCA Middle School. He has been challenged; however, our son has been successful because of the expected higher level of learning. With the bar raised higher, he has achieved at a higher academic level. Discipline at BHCA is handled promptly and fairly. Students feel safe because they are made aware of what is expected of them not only academically but behaviorally as well. It is not a perfect school with perfect students but I can tell you the environment is different from other schools our children have attended. Parent involvement is highly encouraged and I believe that is one of the many reasons BHCA is successful and positive. In my opinion, student leaders are created by students taking responsibility, parent involvement, and great educators. Our son will be leaving 8th grade this year as a leader.
This school has many areas for improvement, they do not work with parents, and the Principal is not available to talk to. The elementary students' feelings are not taken into consideration. They don't seem to realize the things they say and do have a serious impact on the elementary child's emotions.
I was really surprised to see the comment that teachers are unwilling to help students of lesser ability. My second son had a great deal of difficulty in kindergarten. His teacher held several conferences with me in which we discussed what we each could to do help him. She spent as much individual time with him as she could. Still, we decided it would be best for him to be retained in kindergarten. During his second year in kindergarten, he had a different teacher, who was equally excellent. Now he is in the first grade and doing well, thanks in large part to his exemplary teachers. However, this school is very academically demanding. A student of average or lesser academic ability will have to work very hard to succeed here - and so will the child's parents.
This school is great if your child does not need extra help, teachers are unwilling or unable to help those of lesser academic ability.
My child has completed all of his middle school years at Bay Haven. This school is wonderful, it holds high standards both for academics and behavior. The teachers challenge the students to do their best and be responsible for their own learning. The students at this school excel because they are held accountable for both behavior and academics. It is a great middle school environment and the middle school teachers are very caring and concerned for each student.
As both a parent of a child at this school and as a teacher employed as this school, I can tell you that this is a wonderful place to be. My child attended school here at Bay Haven for three years before I decided to leave the best job I ever had in order to join the Bay Haven faculty. Bay Haven's curriculum is challenging, the behavioral expectations are high, and parent's are required and welcomed to be involved. For all of those reasons, Bay Haven's environment is safe, positive, and inspiring. Yes, ESE services are limited due to restraints imposed by the Bay County School Board. However, there are many programs in place to identify students with needs and to provide them with the additional help they need to be successful. Unlike other schools, behavior that impacts the safety of others or inhibits instruction in the classroom is not tolerated.
