Excellent teachers and administrators. Drama club needs more attention but the orchestra and bands are top rate
very high academic quality, offered many more Advanced Placement classes than any other local school. mulitiple award winning math, debate, and science teams. great photography program with darkroom. i can state that mostly all of my teachers were very qualified and great at teaching, however teachers come and go, but a lot seemed to stay at stoneman douglas for a long time.
Good choices for AP courses although they will let almost anyone in. Affluent area where kids drive expensive cars and wear designer brands. Non existant fine arts with the exception of band, orchestra and jazz. Great for ladies soccer and they are building a stadium. Top students do very well on college placement. Newsweek rated them in the top 1.5% of high schools in the nation for 2005-2006
Good teachers and academic programs. The only downside is its a little crowded.
Overall, this is a great school. Its academic standards are extremely high. The only problem is its safety rate.

Very strong academically, but very overcrowded. Lack of funds from county has cut back on various activities, but parent and community involvement has helped supplement the programs a bit.
There's a lot of clubs and extra curriculum activities available to the students, not to mention that the quality of education is excellent; however, as a Hispanic student attending this school, I don't think there's enough ethnic diversity. Other than that the school is good.
Stoneman Douglas is an excellent public high school. My tenth grader who has just moved from Georgia has been well challenged. Preparation for the SAT in the language arts area has been very good. The orchestra in which she participates is quite excellent. The school, quite frankly, could use some improvements to its physical plant, but it is in a very good area in Parkland, Florida. The student population is high and there are some portables, but it doesn't interfere with the quality of education. We are pleased with Stoneman Douglas except that housing in the school district is very, very expensive and, for some, difficult to afford.
Been at this school the past 4 years and it has really taken a nosedive. This school isn't safe, In the past this school always had bomb threats. The ratings went to B this past year because of the ghetto area that surrounds the school towards the south. The high school counselors are the worst. there is zero college support for admissions. They forget to send records and predetermine who they want to get admission spots in top 20 schools.
The last of our 3 children just graduated from the quality school. All 3 were accepted to top notch colleges and we feel this schools stress on academic excellence helped them create great work ethics. The extracirricluar opportunities at MSD are second to none! All around a top notch public shcool.
I attended Stoneman Douglas High School and I really enjoyed my experience there. The school is very large, when I left enrollment was pushing 4,000 students. However, the school still has a small community feel and everyone seems to know everyone else. There are many student activities offered and the teachers were very good. I would recommend sending your student to Douglas over any other school in the city.
Excellent school - only thing lacking is clubs that are not well formed - drama club in nearly non-existent. Academically school is sound. Someone commented that school is building a multi million dollar football field while kids are in filthy trailers - the football field is not being funded by the school but by the parents and the community. The trailers are not filthy but standard portable units. The principal of this school is outstanding and cares about what is happening with the students which is more than I can say about some other schools. My daughter is a sophmore there and in the top 3% of her school. She has already received invitations from Brown, Stanford and Emory. We are not jewish and do not find that a problem. My daughter has many friends, both jewish and christian - there are many muslem children that blend right in without prejudice. I would not want my children to attend any other high school in this county.
Our son Graduated from MDS and our daughter is currently a Senior. School overcrowding aside, and that is a significant aside, this is an wonderful school. My opinion of individual public schools in FL is that they are as good as parents demand. At MSD parents 'are' involved overall, the teachers are very good overall - therefore it is a very good school school. When the over severe crowding is under control MSD will be a 'Great School'
Our third child is now senior at this school. Our oldest graduated and went on to get a masters degree, our middle is an engineering student on deans list. This school is by far superior for motivating students and the quality of education is exemplary. The teachers care and the parents are very supportive. Very pleased with this high school - they encourage student activities.
