Both my boys go to Somerset and they are both metally stimulated from the criculum as well as the indivdual treatment from their teachers. I appreciate all the efforts from the faculity there

I have three children, the oldest now being in middle school. All three have attended Somerset Academy since Pre K 4. The teachers are wonderful and committed and the administration is responsive and caring. Academically, I've witnessed my children soar. I plan on my children all completing high school at Somerset, their home away from home.

Great school so far for my kids. I have been a very involved and vocal parent and at Somerset Academy - pembroke pines, it is always open door for me to talk to teachers and the principal. I moved my kids from Private School and have no regrets and have been there 4 years now with my kids.

Im a student in middle school and I absolutely love my school. Im in eight grade and have been in somerset since it was brand new and in trailers (I was in kindergarten) so far, I have had my share of great teachers, whom I will never forget. they were kind and pateint, and offered as much help as possible. my school might not be perfect, but they are working on it! they just recently added a new building which is used as a media center, basically a library and a quiet place to study and have presentations, and a seperate cafeteria for high school students.

My name is Tracy Mahoney, and I have been a teacher a Somerset Academy for six years. I also have my two children enrolled there in pre-k and in first grade. I could have sent my children to any school, but I chose Somerset Academy because of it's wonderful staff and because I know my children are being challenged, as well as, nurtured. We are one big family at Somerset, and we care about each other very much. All the teachers at this school treat the students like their own children. Overall, this school is a wonderful environment to send your child all day, everyday.

My children have been at Somerset since they were in Pre-K. I had several good schools to chose from, but I couldn't have picked a better school than Somerset. It is a great, family atmosphere, the academics meet the children's development needs, the teachers are awesome and the administration is caring and supportive. I recommend Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines to EVERYONE!

My son attends Somerset Academy Elementary school and we love it! The teachers and staff are great and there is a good environment for learning which is also very importatn for me. They also do a lot of activities to integrate the families in the school, so you get a chance to know who your kid in relating to.

Somerset has an excellent curriculum over and above the standards set by the State. The administration and faculty exhibit compassion, professionalism and an ability to communicate effectively with parents. It is definitely a warm and caring environment for the children and their families. I believe this to be one of Somerset's most notable assets.

My children have been attending Somerset for 6 years now. The school has grown and continues to show growth overall. It is a small family environment. Students and families become very close. The teachers are outstanding. Administration is very approachable and effective. I am a proud parent and I expect the school's ratings to be on the top for Pembroke Pines.

I am extremely happy with the elementary school. Mr. Taibi is an amazing administrator. The school safety measures that he has implemented have made me feel much more secure about my childens safety. He communicates with all parents through a monthly newsletter which gives parents important information about the school. My children's teachers are all excellent, as I have three children in the school. I am concerned about the atheltic programs that will be available to them once they enter high school.

The strongest area of this school is the teachers. When the school first started, there were a few years of adjustment and unfortunately, there has been quite a bit of teacher and staff turnover. But things seem to have settled down, and with new principals in place, it finally seems to be settling down. Not very many extracurricular activities for all grades---elementary, middle and high school. The PTA group tries hard, but parent involvement is dismal.

I love Somerset Academy for my kids. The population of the school is small and the kids are well educated. The principal is involved in the school activities. The parents are really invovled and the teachers quickly respond to any parent concerns.

my son is in the 4th grade and I have to say I am satisfied with the academic material that is being taught. They have focused a lot on their writing skills. He is given lots of homework and I see a big improvement in his writing and vocabulary. He attended 3rd grade also and this year seems to be more intense. Sometimes all that homework can be overwhelming for me and interupts my time but it has been worth it.

Your strongest teachers and assistants have left. No wonder the school has gone down hill. What do you think helps make up your school? Who do you think protects your children academically and socially to the end? We need to start protecting our teachers too, before we lose them all.

My children were at Somerset for three years. We moved them out this year to a private school where they are much happier. This school's administration has been completely disorganized the entire time we were there. There were 3 different principles. Principles Dr. Ruth and Mr. Montero were definate advocates for the children, however, did not have much impact in creating a educational environment where a parent felt secure in the actual education. There is a high turnover in teachers - NOT GOOD! We liked the smaller environment and the athletics. I think the elementary and middle schools were O.K. but the high school is a little scary. I hope the school can eventually get it together because it has potential. I just didn't want my children to be the pawns while they work out their kinks.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
