I love this scool and I have absolutely loved all 3 of the teachers my children have had for (k),(1),(2). And I am also satisfied with the principal Mrs. Vaughn, but i don't like how McArthur is a tad behind on what the children are doing in each grade compared to many other schools around. I have friends and family who have children the same age as mine at Helen Caro, Lipscomb and N. B. Cook. These schools are challenging their children a little bit more than McArthur. I just wish every school around did the exact same thing as far as the learning and school work. That is my only major complaint I have for this school.

Student drop off is unacceptable. If anyone had an emergency while trapped in that line, it could be critical.

My daughter is about to start the first grade at McArthur, and her kindergarten year was all I hoped it would be for her. She is really excited about school, and her teachers are wonderful. Anytime I needed to talk to her teacher all I had to do is call, even at home or her cell. She made sure to make herself available at anytime. The staff and faculty at this school is AMAZING!! So friendly and devoted to the children and parents.

I have to say that I am disappointed in this school and my son's teacher. He was going to a great school in MA then we moved back here and I thought I was putting him in a A school and how wrong I was. I can understand why it got a 6 out of 10 rating.

I have two children at McArthur and we purposely bought our home in district 2 years ago so our oldest could start Kinder there. My sisters went to McArthur too for their elem. careers and it was just as awesome then as it is now. I can't say enough about the parent/teacher communication as well as the welcoming of parent activity in your childs education happenings with this school. Like with anywhere you are going to get mixed reviews/results, and while I have had my 'run-ins' in the last two years with this school, overall we are VERY pleased with our decision to purchase a home in this district to allow our children the BEST public education we could! MUCH props to Mrs. Nelson (K), Mrs Gill (k) and Mrs Bain (1st) - FABULOUS teachers!

2 principal changes in the last three years or so and lots has gone downhill at McArthur. I agree with the parent who is concerned about this school and won't have his/her child in the school next year. Same here!

Offer a lot of candy for achievements. Teacher uses no recess as a class punishment. Low security. (They usually take your ID but they don't monitor it closely. I have went right past without them bothering to look up!) Horribly rude secretary. School has a new principal as of 2008, but she is not prompt about returning phone calls. I'm unimpressed and my child will not attend McArthur next year!

Boy, do we miss this school! we moved 2 yrs ago and realized how much we took this school for granted! my boys were well advanced at our new school, that was the only good thing. I wish we were still there!

I have a second grader and now a kindergartener that attends the school. So far I have no complaints. I have enjoyed the school and the expectations they have for the kids is awesome. Hats off to Mrs. Penton and Mrs. Bain.

L. D. McArthur is a great school. When I moved my boy's to this school from another Pensacola school, their grade went from C's and D's to A's and B's.

McArthur is a great school. We absolutely love it. The teachers and staff are such a joy to work with and truly want the best for all of the kids. Everyone there has a 'can do' spirit.

This has been 3 years with McArthur and It has been great! The Teachers are the best and the Principle and staff are the ultimate! PTA is super. The school is always very clean and we take pride in that. I can not say enough about the safety of this school, either!

Wow! Where do I begin on just how great McArthur is? The teachers, new ones & seasoned ones, are wonderful. They have taught me just as much as they have taught my children! If ever I have had a question, which I have, all I do is pop into Mrs. Nowlin's office or call her (even @ home) for that answer! She is wonderful! So, are Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Johnecheck (both of mrs. Nowlin's right hands) office staff, wonderful. Mr. Van Gilder's door is always open for guidance! The safety is top notch! PE is a workout! PTA is awesome! speech teacher is the bomb, too! And the food, yummy! If moving to Pensacola, McArthur is a must! It is fun, fun, fun!

I have been pleased with the performance of the faculty and staff at McArthur Elementary, which both of my children have attended for the past 5 years. The teachers have always gone the extra mile for my children. They have always maintained great communication, which I feel is extremely important in giving me the tools I need to help my children excel. I would highly recommend this school to all parents.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science, and in grades 4, 8, and 10 in writing. The FCAT 2.0 is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Florida. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
