Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Our family moved to the area specifically for our children to attend this school and unfortunately it has been a disaster. There is no structure, no discipline, and no real learning. The staff is exceptionally rude and uncaring. There is a lack of professionalism and integrity within the administration and a blatant disregard for the safety of the students. Many of the teachers try but seem discouraged and overwhelmed. Curriculum differs widely depending on the particular teacher. Parents don t have a voice and there is a real need for a parent organization to be established to fix the Escambia County School District. They are failing our children and failing our country.

It pains me to say Hellen Caro was once a fantastic school. Sadly, this is no longer the case! After having our twins attend school there for over two years we discovered the classrooms lack structure; the environment was chaotic; the administration was largely unresponsive and unsupportive of its teachers, and the staff was in fact often rude meaning on more than one occasion. The PTA held meetings during normal banker s working hours and seemed to discourage actual participation from working parents. Yet, what s worse is that our children hated going to school. We really tried to make it work; however, after 2.5 years of frustration and banging our heads against the wall, so-to-speak, we finally dis-enrolled our children from the school and enrolled them in a private school.

My son went to school here for 3rd grade and his teacher was great in helping him get up there since we went there almost at the end of school. The only downfall about this school is that they didn't make my son feel comfortable as a new student he was teased by other kids and they did nothing. The office people are definitely rude! I transfer my child out of that school and as I walk away the ladies start talking about me and I can hear it! They need to be thought good manners and be polite..come on people this is voted one of the best school do me a favor and change your attitudes!

This school LOOKS good on paper and online, but when you actually visit the actual school it is way below par. The hallways are noisy. The staff and teachers are rude and do not give you time of day. They are not friendly at all. And then the gossip is bad. You should not be a parent and hear about what people are going through and all their problems and issues through the grapevine. Really? Are these adults in High School? Apparently they don't know how to be professional. We transferred our kids out of there. As proof of lack of professionalism, one of their Hellen Caro teachers approached my child's current teacher at a district competition and had nothing positive to say about my child. That teacher then decided to spread gossip as to why we chose to leave the school. AND if that teacher is reading this... it was YOU LADY! You did NOT give my child a safe and comforable learning environment. You could not differentiate your teaching to allow my child the opportunity to be successful. And my child was not thriving with you. Sorry, but you are not a good teacher. Done and done with that school!!!

We are a military family and came to Pensacola, FL in 2011, my son was starting 2nd grade. His 2nd grade year was great! He had a wonderful teacher, the school was always helpful. 3rd grade year was even better! Excellent teacher, even though she was new to the school, really encouraged the students. Once again, school was always there! 4th grade year was a little more difficult, but only because the teacher's style did not agree with my sons style of learning and it being a transition year, but with help from home he pulled through with A-B honor roll. Overall the teachers and faculty at this school are wonderful and he has benefited from this school tremendously!!!

My daughter attends kindergarten here this year. Overall I'm pleased with this school. There is room for improvements on the security. Also some of the front desk staff could use a refresher course on good manners. My daughter's teacher is a great teacher. My daughter loves her!!!! Also, my daughter enjoys going to school everyday. You can feel how much her teacher enjoys being with her class. I appreciate being able to have lunch with my child and I'm so happy that I can bring my two year old along with me. I would highly recommend this school. It is the best in the area. Also I would like to thank Mrs Lucero in the front office for being kind to us. Also Mrs. Arndt, thank you for being so good to my daughter.

this school is probably the best school in the Escambia County area. I cannot say enough about the teachers, and the Principal.

This will be my daughter's 4th year here, and i really enjoy the atmosphere. Every teacher she has had is very good. I love the open door policy and i can come anytime to talk with the teacher, have lunch with my daughter, and volunteer for projects. The teachers are extremely helpful and concerned if a problem arises. I only intended for her to go there for one year as i had plans for her to attend Pensacola Christian Academy. I am in awe of the wonderful staff there and their concern for anything that I may have a concern for. Great job Hellen Caro teachers!!!! Keep up the good work. :o)

My daughter attended this school in kindergarten. Although we appreciated the open door policy very much - parents can walk their children to class EVERY morning throughout the year, etc, our observations were that the school staff often yelled at students, barked orders. The car line staff yelled at my daughter on her 1st day of kindergarden causing her to cry. Terrible! Her teacher was very reactive and did not respect the children as actual human beings. The office staff are not friendly. We do not miss this school.

The school is a rich welcoming environment . The teachers are the best. My son is in K and can sit down and read a book all by himself. The school offers so many special activities and events which really help to create a sense of community. We are all very proud to be part of Hellen Caro Elem. I am wowed and in wonder any time I visit at the artwork of the students displayed inside and outside of the building. The school carnival was great fun. My son loves his school. His teacher is amazing! Hellen Caro provides a wonderful education.

A fantastic school with some of the most energetic, professionals I have ever worked with. I have worked at this school for 14 years. The attitude and caring nature of the staff and teachers is reflected in the students themselves. Hellen Caro is a safe, fun place to go to school and learn. Our special area staff, music, art, physical education and media center are top notch as well as the facitlities!

Hellen Caro is a wonderful child centered school. We have a motto at our school that 'We are here to learn.' Our parents are very supportive all the schools programs and activities. Caro teachers are excellent, caring people. Our principal and assistant principal are very loving and very professional. This is my eleventh year to teach there. It is truly an 'A' school.

Hellen Caro is a fantastic school. As a parent of a first grader and employee at the school, I am very pleased with the academic plan here. Teachers and students are happy, and the atmosphere throughout the hallways is positive and friendly. I love being a Caro Captain and cannot wait for my daughter to attend as well.

Helen Caro is an excellent school with many caring, dedicated, passionate professional teachers. The teachers go out of there way for their students needs and progress in learning. Every one in this school really cares and it shows. One big happy family of teachers and staff that makes this school the best in Florida. Thank you to all the staff and teachers for showing pride and passion for teaching.

I think that this is a fantastic school. This is the second year that my daughter has attended Hellen Caro. Everyone is very helpful. She has been very successful. We are a military family. Moving is always stressful. I would recommend this school to everyone. It is the best in the area and close to the base.

The best 'A' school in Pensacola. The teachers and faculty are fantastic. They are very friendly and welcoming. The classroom sizes are small so you have more teacher / student interaction. They greatly emphasize reading and acknowledge their readers on the wall of fame. I would definetly recommend this school.

Before moving to the Pensacola area, I searched for a school where my child can thrive and feel comfortable. So far, this school has not disappointed me. The staff at this school are wonderful, the surrounding area and neighborhood is nice as well. Being a military family, we move around quite a bit and it is very important for us that our children's move are nice and smooth so that they are able to adjust. Hellen Caro has been a wonderful choice. I would advise any family to choose this school. I am very 'picky.'

I have two who went to Hellen Caro, each on opposite ends of the spectrum. The staff at this school was always willing to help. You just have to realize they have a mission to complete as well. Call and make a scheduled appointment if you need one-on-one.

We have 2 children in Hellen Caro. Both in special ed. Two teachers, Mrs. Kirkland and Mrs. Corder, have done fantastic jobs in getting far more from them than we thought possible. The oldest, 6 yrs, has been accepted into the PATS program. This school, in our opinion, is fantastic. We have 2 older granchildren , one in fourth grade and one in high school, who did this well at Caro. This makes us very proud. Thanks for the opportunity to give these two teachers a pat-on-the-back.

We recently relocated to this area and leased while we checked out the area to see where we would want to live and send our 5 year old to school. We have been overwhelmed by the attention and professionalism shown by all of the faculty and staff during our transition. We were concerned about who our daughter would end up with for her first year in a new area. The counselor recommended a teacher and we feel so fortunate that we did get the one we have. Our experience with office staff and the other teachers we come across in the mornings getting to class has been outstanding. We are very confident that our child is getting a wonderful education in a very nurturing environment!

Overall, this school is a wonderful learning institution. Like every school, it has it's problems. The office staff is very rude and seems to be bothered by parents and students alike. The guidance counselor is not much help. Everyone else is a joy to be around and are very pleasant to adults and children. Mrs. Moore has done a great job! My child receives top quality education and is very happy to go to school.

I highly disagree with Danielle, this is a fabulous school. My daughter attended Hellen Carrow for 2 years. We came from Japan, a highly rated school, and she was challenged at Helen Carrow. Our teachers were responsive to all her needs. The PTA was disorganized, but a new board took over and is making things happen. I volunteered at the school and was active with all the programs. If the parents feel their child is not challenged get involved. Lauren

I guess for this area Hellen Caro is a good school. However it pales in comparison to our last school. The PTA doesn't seem very organized. Good luck using their website to find out anything current about the school. And my daughter hasn't learned anything new. I feel this year has been a waste of time for her, and hasn't challenged her in the least. And the staff seems to be blissfully ignorant about it. But, I guess for this area it's as good as you can get.

I have been highly satisfied with Hellen Caro. My son is the type of child who needs extra attention so he knows he can do well in school. The teachers did not hold this against my son and they embraced him and he has been on the A/B honor roll all year. Since living in Pensacola, this is the 4th school my son has been to because we were dissatisfied with the other schools for one reason or another. My son will stay at this school. I am very impressed and recommend it to anyone.

Have been very happy for the last 5.5 Years here. My child (5th grade) has bloomed into a young man. Very nice school, the front office does lack nice personalities. They are very grumpy up there. Website is not a good resource, dont count on the calander to tell u any upcoming activities w/ the school. Perhaps soon. Overall, very pleased and recommend it. How lucky we are to live in this school district!

Our son attended a private school for 5 years and we enrolled him in Hellen Caro after our move to this area. All of the kids in the neighborhood went to Hellen Caro. The deal was that he had to keep his grades up or back to private school. I was amazed at the input by the staff at Hellen Caro. I remember thinking 'I get all of this for free. Why have I been paying $400 a month?' The PATS program is great. The teachers were outstanding. The Principle was outstanding. We were very impressed and recommend Hellen Caro to other parents.

My son started Hellen Caro in first grade as a nonreader. His first grade teacher took the time to first establish a relationship with my son and build up his self-esteem. He started reading in December of that year. Once he began reading, he took off and made the accelerated reader 'Wall of Fame.' I thank the teacher every day for her patience and the individual time she took to help my son reach his potential. The PTA at Hellen Caro is very active. They have special events for the students and teachers as well. The art and music teachers do an excellent job of teaching the history as well as techniques. Each year there are several performance given by the students. This year we are having a 'Family Reading and Art Night.' Each child will have an art project on display! Hellen Caro is an awesome school!

I LOVE Hellen Caro, the reading program is top notch and my children have blossomed here. We are military and move often so finding a good school is very important to our children's development. I always felt welcome and well informed and was very happy with every aspect of the school. Parents are very involved and this school makes it easy to be so.

Overall, the school is excellent! However, I would love to see more time allotted for 'free' play. The children get organized PE classes, but they don't have enough time for unorganized play (not unsupervised). This is the best way children can bond and use their imaginations...Thus, leading to better social skills. The other thing that needs to be addressed is the lack of teacher aides in the classrooms...especially in the Kinder-first grade classes. I realize that parent volunteering is important, but it is often better to have someone in the class (all the time) to help the teacher who is not related to any current student. This way it would insure that children who need more assistance aren't left behind.

An excellent school that we are very happy with. We have a son in 5th and another in 3rd grade. We've been in this school for two years and have been impressed with both the teachers and the principal. While they do teach to the FL tests, they do a great job teaching the fundamentals. The gifted program is excellent as well. Highly recommended.

I have 2 boys in this school - 1st & 5th grades. Teachers are very willing to work with the parents, but a few were quick to allow personality conflicts with the children affect their grading. Both of my children had straight A's but were held off of the A Honor Roll due to citizenship grades. I believe they were being watched more closely due to the personality conflict. Overall, academics, cleanliness, even teachers were wonderful. We are all human, and after discussing things with them, they were very accommodating and helpful. I will most definitely send my 2 year old there when he is of age.
