We ended up settling on a not-so-great house to make sure our daughter was zoned for this school! She is in 1st grade, and has been student of the month for kindergarten & 1st grade. We love everything about this school!

High parent involvement. Wonderful teachers. Excellence in academics. PTA mom who understands why this school is so sought after. Wonderful Principal. Have to move and am very worried to find the equal. My child has attended from kindergarten through 3rd grade and has excelled in math, reading, arts, and social skills.

We have been at Central Park for two years (kindergarten and first grade) and we absolutely love it. It is a big school with approximately 1100 students but it has a small school feel. This is because of the wonderful teachers and staff who really care about the students and parents. We have really felt part of the school 'family'. There are so many ways to get involved too! If offers many extra programs where you can volunteer (meet the masters, math superstars, hear the music) just to name a few. The PTA is outstanding with so many wonderful involved parents that help make the school extra special. Only being here two years I can't believe how many nice people we have met. This an an area where many choose to send their children to private school but this school far exceeded our expectations and the teachers are first rate educators!

We have a first grader here. We have been generally quite happy with the school. Lots of parent involvement. Good teachers and very supportive to our son. One concern is that our child is very advanced academically and we are not always sure he is being challenged adequately. Not sure that would be different in any other public school though.

Central park elementary has great teachers who really care about the students. Parental support is strong. Well organized, diciplined students, strong code of conduct, clean. Great if you have a child with an iep as they monitor progress in a well organized and thorough fashion. Good school newsletter. Could use better outdoor facilities, recess is too limited. Too much homework .Too much focus on fcat.No extracurricular activities, but quality of staff both educational and other faculty is evident. This is an a+ school.

Central Park has an excellent gifted program. It is not a pullout program but a fulltime class. The teacher challenges the students.

What can you say? It's like having a private school in your own backyard. The teachers really care and work together with the parents.

We love CPE and wish both kids could go here K-12! We've been here for 3 yrs and have a 1st grader and 5th grader - 5th grader has been in gifted for last 3 yrs. We've been very pleased with both kids' teachers every year; principal makes effort to get to know every student; behavior problems are minimal with lots of support available for students who require assistance. Strong PTA that is effective in getting parents to contribute time and money to get needed 'extras' for the kids. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged; lots of extracurricular activities available. Gifted program is self contained and taught by gifted certified teachers which has really made a difference for our child. Thanks CPE!

They have a great accademic program. But there needs to be more after school activites. My son complains about the little time they have for recess which can lead to obesity. To much focus on the FCAT testing. But that is a State Wide problem.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Florida used the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0) to test students in grades 3 through 10 in reading, 3 through 8 in math, in grades 5 and 8 in science, and in grades 4, 8, and 10 in writing. The FCAT 2.0 has 5 achievement levels, with level 1 being the lowest and level 5 the highest. Florida considers scores of level 3 and higher to be on or above grade level. The goal is for all students to score at or above level 3.

About the tests

Florida uses School Grades to measure the overall performance of a school each year on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Each school is assigned a letter grade (A-F) based on three criteria: the overall performance on the FCAT, the percentage of eligible students who took the test, and whether or not students made progress in reading and math. The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
