MMy daughter has entered her second year at SME as a first grader. So far so good although last year was a nightmare! As a kindergartner she would take the bus daily to school and after about 2 weeks we were notified that she was showing up late to class although her bus was listed as arriving on time. I met with the principal since NO ONE could seem to locate our daughters where abouts for a 30 minute time span. Well the principal did NOTHING to address the issue, didn't even receive an update phone call. Its a bit concerning that a 5 year old was unsupervised on school campus. Needless to say we discovered what was going on but it took us as the parents to "spy" on her once she arrived at school The bus system is also horrific. They dropped our daughter off at the wrong spot once and drove by her pick up twice. Regardless of all this the teachers are outstanding. Mrs. Gresham was fabulous and Mrs.Marshall really inspires the kids to want to learn. Recommended for the teachers but the administration and bus system are very concerning!
Are you kidding me??? Mrs. Marshall should not be teaching children period! Perhaps you should have visited the classroom!
This school is the best school ever, we had custody of my nephew and he went there, and at his oll schools he was recieving nothing but F's and then we got him and got him into sugar mill and then they had him bringing in A;s. I love that school soo much my daughter who is 4 yrs old will be attending that school next year.
The principal is the best in volusia county and you couldn't ask for more help from him whenever needed. Plus the first grade teacher Mrs. Marshall is the best cause my son has special needs and she treated him like one of her own kids and loved him dearly and he loved her. If you want to send your kids to an awesome school with great teachers and even better principal then this is the school. It should have a 10 out of 10 cause it is totally awesome and I feel very blessed to have my son going to such a wonderful school. The best one in volusia!!
Best school around. My son has been going there for 2 years now and love everything about it. The prinicipal is the best anywhere and couldn't say enough about him or the school.
This is by far one of the best schools ever!! I have two children that attend this school! I have never had one problem and my children have come so far! The whole staff is outstanding! I can not wait for my other two children to start school!
It really makes me sad to hear about your experience with your child --- parent with a disabled child. I must say that my child is blessed with Mrs. Harris. She is grand. Although she has had many obstacles this year, she did not quit. I like her very much and she cares about all her students. I like the Vice Principal also, Mrs. Ross.
My son is a special needs student and the principal would not do anything to help me with his problems. I have been to schools with grades lower than this one and got more help for my son then this school. They always tell you to talk to the prinicpal but whenever I did nothing was ever done the prinicpal could care less about the parents as long as he gets paid.
This is where my son went to Kindergarten and the teachers are the best and I do believe that my son was very lucky to go to such a great school. The principal is so nice and will help you with anything possible in a split second. My son's teacher, Ms. Schultz was always nice and kind and caring and answered all my questions and one of the best teachers around volusia county today.
My daughter is just finishing up 2nd Grade at Sugar Mill Elementary and I could not be more pleased with the school, curriculum and staff. She is currently not involved in any extracurricular activities, but I am hoping that she will develop an interest within the next year or two. The staff is friendly and helpful and will meet with you any time you request it. I highly recommend SME to any Port Orange resident. C. Lasky Port Orange
