Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Just reading the posts from "former students" on this site gives me cause for concern. My son attends Southportl and I am not really impressed. There is a lack of communication between the school and parents. PTA meetings are always scheduled at a time that is inconvenient if you have children in more than one school. What is the point of having a website, if there is never any useful information added? This is a common thread throughout the school district.

I give this school 4 stars only counting the schools in St Lucie County. The school is a good school with excelent teachers. The teachers that I have had are well experienced and work well with the students. For example, the science teacher I have, graduated from medical school, my language arts teacher was active in the writing community and was active in drama and stared in movies; my math teacher is one of the smartest guys i know, and i believe was a phsyciatrest (spell error); and one of the social studies teachers was active in politics and teaches well. The school is a good school to attend and can push hard for outstanding grades, but there are few that have a little bit more libral style of teaching that is more relaxed, and standards can be a little lower, as i said, there are few.

Im a former student of Southport Middle School (SPMS). I was in all honors classes from grades 6 to 8. I loved the school. Some teachers more than others not saying any names (Mrs.H and Ms.Francis you rule!). I would highly recommend this school to any and all graduating 5th graders for its lack of bullying, sophisticated staff, and overall preparedness to help students with anything thats ailing them. P.s.: I am able to write like this because of Mrs.H. Thank You!

I am a student at South Port. I am in accelerated classes and can say that some teachers are very, very good. Others are not so good. I will not say any names, but I like three of my five teachers alot. The other two I feel don't work with childeren well at all. Overall, I think this school is average or just under.

This school is terrible! The administrators do NOTHING about the animalistic behavior of the students here. I am taking my child out. They just do not care. The teachers are good but the prison like environment is just too much.

Southport middle school is a very un-organized school with only 2 cops there. There needs to be more safety involved.

I feel that the staff trys really hard to take care of the studentsand they do, not only with academic wise and behavioral wise . There 21st century program is great and very helpful. To us as the parents and students.

The school is Ok on the curricular but the dress code they have is outrageous. A lot of parents don't have the money to go out and buy new clothes every year when some things have nothing to do with a learning environment. Like the no stripes policy. Students are either sent to ISS or sent home for a day if there is no way to get them a different shirt .

my child has attende 6th, 7th and is now in 8th grade at southport. i believe that the guidelines are a little out of wack. meaning i dont think that anyone is following them. my child seems to like it there, but im not sure if it is from the academic programs or if it is because he has his friends there. alot of improvement is needed. we as parents need to be more involved in schooling.

Southport is 'trying' to become a better school. It will take alot of work to get it done. Most teachers are either very good or not good at all. There really isn't a middle ground when it comes to teachers. The education that the children get there is sub-standard and it shows in the school grade. The lack of parental involvement is a key issue and as more parents become involved they see how much there is to do. The principal is working hard to 'show' that he is working hard on fixing the school, but in my opinion he is not working on the main issues that need to be addressed. Like teachers having to be in meaningless meetings, and giving up thier planning hour where they could be calling concerned parents. This school has a bad reputation and it will have to work very hard to over come it.

The knowledge that the teachers have, or lack of knowledge is very alarming. It seems some of the staff cannot write themselves so how can they teach our children? I have had 3 children in Southport and withdrew all 3 due to lack of education in this school. I rate this school very, very poor.

Southport is a good school. Like any other school it has potential to be better. I feel the school provides a very environment for the students, however more student activities are needed and definitely parent involvement it the area that needs the most work. Without the support of the parents, the school is only as good as it's weakest link. Working together can assure results that are phenomenal.

St. Lucie County still busses children from other areas of the county. The mix of children is not working. There are some rough kids in this school and 2 police officers. The administrative staff is excellent but the teachers lack dedication.
