INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a former student of this school, & I think it was amazing! I may have been bullied, but that's gonna happen with any school and it seemed like the administration did what they were supposed to do to correct the situation. My favorite teacher was my 7th grade reading and she's now the librarian and current Teacher Of The Year for St. Lucie County. I've graduated HS now but I still go back & volunteer. This is an amazing school.

I am a student, going into 7th grade that has attended Oak Hammock since kindergarten. I honestly hate this school and I can't wait until I get to high school. The teachers are very mean and unreasonable. We have the lowest FCAT scores in the county, can you believe that? Don't get me started on the dress code, jeans are not allowed at all. They won't even let us wear sweaters or outerwear without zippers/buttons. One time I almost got a referral for wearing a SWEATER. It was a cold day and I didn't have anything else available at the time. Then, they expect us to get A's on quizzes and tests when we hardly get taught anything! Also, the electives are so limited! Last year, before I started middle school, we could pick from band, art, tech, or gym. I picked art & tech for one semester each. The art elective was dropped before school started up again. Seriously, we only had a couple electives to choose from at first and now you want to have even fewer? Basically, Oak Hammock focuses more on what we're wearing more than our education and success. Do yourself a favor and send your kid to anywhere but Oak Hammock.

they threaten kids. the attendance person thinks that if you're late to school for one day you will never succeed in life, when yet she is the one who is working at a school (no offence, some, i repeat some, teachers there are awesome.) as an attendance person and works a second job at dilards. who isn't very sucsessful in their life now? so, if you do make the horrid decision to send your child here, try never to be late or you will be bullied and targeted by the attendance lady.

PLEASE I BEG YOU!

Oak Hammock K-8 is not a good school. Your kids will hate it here. I have been going here since the 3rd grade; I am now in 7th grade. Our dress code is the worst. Up until this year we were able to wear jeans. Now we must wear khaki, navy, black, and or grey pants, and they must not be denim. Our lunch is gross and drenched in oil. The only good thing about our school is the Special needs teachers and the support and understanding the middle school teachers give us.

I've been at this school since first grade (since it first opened), and I am currently a seventh grader there. This school is pretty horrible. Most of the teachers, or at least the ones I've had, are pretty mean. It seems as if they care only about the money they're getting from being there, and not about the students. I suppose the staff (such as the dean, attendance person, etc) are alright. The language arts teachers are horrible.. All of the grammar, spelling (etc) skills that I have, I managed to just kinda pick up on it by reading and what not. Point is, the teachers are horrible. Do not go to this school. PLEASE.

Wow. I am so shocked to hear the review regarding the different ethnic groups. The State of Florida provides standards by which students are taught, called the Sunshine State Standards. These standards mandate the content of what students in Florida public schools learn. The standards include learning about different cultures and countries, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is very concerning to me that someone would try to deter anyone from learning about these Social Studies topics. I am so happy that the teachers made it clear that it was not optional.

My daughter is in the special education class and I must say the teachers are excellent and nurturing. I have been very happy with the school since we first moved to Florida almost 2 years ago. My daughter can now read, write and no longer needs speech classes. Keep up the excellent job!!

I can't understand why more is not done to protect our children at this school. Anyone can come up and pick a child afterschool, most of the time the staff out there isn't even paying attention. I've personally walked up and grabbed my daughter and no one noticed!!!! Some one should be checking to make sure these kids are going home with the right person. Why even bother sending home consent forms for pick up?? If anyone can come pick up a child!! When I addressed my concerns, I was basically told they do not have enough time for that because they would be there all day! This school is just a hooot mess that is unorganized! Pick up go alot better with proper planning and time scheduling!!

This school is a ghetto dump. When I was in this school for 7th grade, I was bullied, punched, socially left out and other tragadies. I am far past it now, and I am in advanced classes. Please listen. Do not make the same mistake my parents made. DONT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!

I would like to see more parent involvement at this school. I have been very involved since this school opened and I have seen parent participation decline. I feel you cant complain so much if you dont try to help. Stop blaming only teachers. Teaching begins at home and by example. Volunteer to help out before forming opinions.

I have 3 children who all went to school born and raised in Florida, by far this is the worst school I have ever had to deal with. Their lack of communication and caring about the student is horrible. I wish I never put my youngest in this school. I should of let him go to St Lucie West where my girls had no problems!!!

I have been at this school since the doors opened for the fist time. I am so Sorry to tell you it was the BIGGEST mistake to send my child here. I can't say the whole school is bad but I can say the teachers my child had this year were just NOT teachers , thy don't teach and they don't care!!! If ou havea child steer clear of this school as your choice!

I agree with the parent about the administration's favoritism. My wife and myself were treated very badly when we inquired about a situation with our son. I think that more parents should come forward and voice out against racism that is taking place in the Port Saint lucie public schools.

I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!! This school is the best choice for your kids to be happy, to learn and at the same time have fun!! I'm going to 7th grade this year and I have been here since 4th grade and this school opened a year before. So i went the 2nd year it was opened. I always wanted to go to this school and now it's VERY SAD that i only have 2 years left here at Oak Hammock K-8 =( The teachers are awesome I have never been taught like this at this school. The extracurriculars are also fun and very good for us. At this school you actually want to be open and have good friends and great teachers. The safety is very awesosme here too because i have never felt so protective at any other school. This school is my 2nd home! I LOVE OAK HAMMOCK K-8!!!

Overall leadership is good but they are way too obssesed about dress code. Do not think that most teachers are prepared enough with good skills. School lacks teaching skills, and advanced students get homework pretty mych every day unlike the not advanced students, who lack homework.

i was in 7th grade when this school opened and was sent there. i liked this school as one of my favorite that i've gone to. Although i was only able to be there for 2 years, i enjoyed it. Most of my teachers were great, especially the band teacher. The dress code was a little strict, but as an alumni, i'd recommend this school. Go Ospreys!

All academic opportunities are exellelent here, you get only the best with this school. The arts are also a big part of the cirriculm, and the children get music and art twice a week as an 'elective' class. The teachers are all qualified, and I've yet to see a 'bad' teacher at oak hammock. Parents have many opportunities to be involved in their children's education, and the phycility and staff are also very helpful.

I believe this school has improved enormously in the last 3 years, my kids started this school year, and I have no complaints. However, negative media toward this school has put this great school in a bad position. Some people are just out for personal gain. The SRO's are wonderful to work with and so are the ESE teachers. I am grateful we have such a wonderful school locally.

My children have attend this school since it opened and all I can say is that this school is so focused on what the children wear its disgusting! I'd rather have my child attend a school that's focused on education. I think the only reason they have their SAC meetings in the afternoon is so whomever is on the committee can have their way with what they want in the school. Personally this meeting should be moved to a better time for those parents who work that way not only do the teachers get their opinion, but so do the parents. The school is so into parent involvement, but why? The administration and teachers are never consistant always wishy-washy. I've encoutered the staff talking to children in my opinion, rude and direspectful manner, no wonder these kids have no respect for some teachers, when you've got teachers rolling their eyes .

My child has attended Oak Hammock since the year it opened. It has been disappointing thus far for several reasons. First, this is his last year there before high school and I see absolutely nothing in the way of preparation for high school - including no homework. He is going to be in for a rude awakening once he hits high school. 2nd, every instance I have encountered with the office staff has been quite negative. I find these people unpleasant and unfriendly. My child gets very good grades on his report card, yet performs below average on his FCAT. How can this be? I am afraid for him when he gets to high school.

I went to this school last year and personally thought it was overly strict, and instead of treating the 6-8th graders like 6-8th graders, they treated them as the emelemtary kids, and gave them no freedom. This results in not being prepared for highschool. Its a good school if your 5th grade and under, but if you have a middle school child, i suggest you look into other middle schools.

this is a hit or miss school. my son has been at oak hammock for 3 years. I tink it all depends on the teacher you get. He had a horrible teacher last year, and this year he has an amazing one! The 2 major problms I have, is 1= my son being exposed to teenagers and thier cursing and bullying. And 2=the lack of cirriculum for children that are more advanced than thier grade.

My children were in first and eighth grade, both had an overall positive experience at this school. Administration is sometimes difficult to deal with. They have an exceptional band program and director. They need to work on communicating with parents (ex. dates to remember, award ceremonies, special activities in class).

My daughter just finished Kindergarten and she had a fabulous teacher. My son just completed 4th grade and had a great teacher as well. Teacher to parent communication has been great all year. The Technology is great. and the calss sizes in both grades were small. My kids love going to Oak Hammock. I just wish there were more Extra curricular activities and the school should do more to let the parents know about the activities

The school is gorgeous and very high tech but soo overcrowded. my 6th grader has 37 students in her class and 4th grader has 26. The administration is very unorganized, under staffed. Some of the teachers are outstanding but other just don't seen to care. Extracurricular activities are slim and notices are always late about activities, have even gotten notices after the activity date. band program is very good. Parent involvement is usually just the ones who like to complain but never help out. Biggest issue is teacher student ratio and administrative staff.

My daughter is in her first year at Oak Hammock, the school is a very nice school. My only problem is that my daughter currently has 35 students in her class. The school has only been open for 2 years and they have already run out of room. St Lucie West is growing very fast and I know that Manatee is going to be converting to a K-8 school and hopefully that will help illimiate the over crowding. I also think that her teachers are very frustrated with the amount of students that they are trying to teach.

This is a good school for students. However, they should have more advanced programs. Some students have already taken some classes from somewhere else and wouldn't like to take the whole class for another year. As an example, I have already taken Algebra 1 Honors in another school, but has to take it again because they don't provide a geometry class. It frustrates me bit that I can be learning something instead of the same things over again. Overall, it's a good school and worth taking a look at.
