I think the school has just escalated into a bunch of people who no longer care. The students don't want to learn and the teachers don't want to teach. Both students and teachers do the minimal effort necessary. There are the select few teachers and student who try, but besides that the school has no hope. We're rated as one of the lowest schools and no body is trying to do anything about it. That's why it won't change and no one will be satisfied.
It's pathetic they call me at work cause my sons not wearing a belt. I mean really. Dean said it's the dress code, I said Ive seen kids dress in mix match outfits logos girls shorts boys underwear showing and he said it's like getting a speeding ticket if u get caught then u do. Well mr. Dean walk around ur school open ur eyes
This school is ok. Pretty much all the teachers only care about dress code. PSLHS has the most strict dress code system in st.Lucie county! Other than that, a lot of teachers have bad attitudes and and they learn from you more than we learn from them. This needs to be changed! It is always really hot in the class rooms and there are almost no windows! It looks like a prison! 1/4 teachers are nice and 3/10 teachers actually teach us something!
It's not THAT bad but it's not exactly good. It needs to be completely knocked down and rebuilt. There is not even one window in the whole school. What if there was a fire? How would we all get out, when we have fire drills the hallway is so packed that you can't even move. It is INFESTED with millipedes and it is absolutely disgusting! The students aren't that nice and there is one teacher that falls asleep during class. The dress code is ridiculous! The bad kids wear whatever they want and don't get in trouble but the good kids have to go along with the dress code because they don't want to chance getting in trouble. So, pretty much, the good kids have a HORRIBLE dress code! Whereas, the bad kids, wear whatever they want, whenever they want. This school needs some major changes!
3/4 of the reviews below are extremely biased. I transferred here from LPA becasue LPA has a miserable atmosphere for students due to the almost cocky nature of the students. At PSLHS its more comfortable and diverse. There are almost no gangs at this school at all. The olny 'gangs' we have are fakes and compose of the most pathetic of the pathetic kids. Teachers vary when it comes to dress code but honestly a dress code is not a big deal at all so quit your whining. the real world has a dress code too. the school itself is decent. it is always always up to the student him/herself to do well.
Eh, it's alright I guess. I think they take the dress code more seriously than the students actually showing up to school. I don't understand why it's so important. Some teachers care, but not enough to make a difference for those who don't care of don't act like they care.
i believe pslhs is the best ... except for the dress code and certain teachers have bad attitudes, but i believe we should get a new school and knock it down. and to all these parents below port st lucie is a good school just dont tolerate foolishness. well we should have more athletic help and support but we dont thats one thing that i hate the most
It is just not really that good of a school. My daughter hates it. She wants to go to Centennial or Treasure Coast but we're not in the right 'zone' and Centennial has even more strict of a dresscode than PSLHS. The highschool punishes all of the students for the acts of a few unruly students. The school looks like a military and it's not a friendly environment. Basically, all of the exceptional kids go to Lincoln Park Academy, all of the decent kids go to Treasure Coast, most of the okay/decent kids go to Centennial, and Port St. Lucie Highschool is where everyone else goes. It's the catch all school. Coming from Marathon, FL., this school is unacceptable.
My daughter has attended pslh for 3 years.i do see some flaws in the school as with any school you will find if you look for them. my daughter has had her share of good & bad teachers and she mentions to me about gangs thank god she stays away from the gangs which are in every school there band is great and the ese dept is always willing to help ive found if you want something done by administration you need to nag but i have yet to find a school i didnt have to nag to get something done these teachers certainly arent there for the money they care but they have rules to follow and bosses to answer to so cut them a break ive met many that go over and beyond the call of duty when necessary.my daughter loves it there
I am a current student at PSLHS. There are very few teachers that care here, and those that do don't make up for the rest. All the administration cares about is dress code this, and dress code that. Instead of focusing on our shirt tails being out, they should be care more about our education and our futures. After all, our futures aren't looking as bright and cheerful as they said they would be.
The worst school they are more worried about the way we dress and look then our education. Some staff are completly out of there mind when it comes to dress code and also bug you for the most ridiculous things, this is why i give the school a poor rating. I have been at psl high for 2 years and already extremly dislike this school.
I have been attending PSLHS for almost 4 years I'm about to graduate this year and while the school has some down falls it seems like many people are focusing on the negative.I believe that the school does need some changes but that it isn't anyones fault other then the state of Florida! They are the one that made the FCAT!The teachers are forced to teach a stupid test to the kids otherwise the school gets no funding from the state. Not all the teachers are great but their are many that have shaped my life considerably! So don't blame the teachers for the curriculum! its the state that deserves the blame and the governor to go along with it!Not the low paid teachers that help me day to day to ensure I graduate. The state is to blame!
I ve taught here 3 years and my daughter is a student. I m proud to work with our excellent teachers and administrators. We do care! We work under atrocious conditions; many years in the making. Despite deplorable lack of respect for our work, a filthy building needing repair and countless students who, sadly, lack communal manners and academic rigor; our staff puts themselves on-the-line everyday to move toward a solution. We smile to bring sunshine into our building. We struggle to keep standards high. It s a balancing act. There are just too many fronts that need change. Our schools need help at every level. Please do not judge PSLH(students and staff). The situation is not our making. We care and work hard, long hours. Please, instead, think of some small or large thing(s) you can do to help. Our children need us all working together to rise above. Right here in Port St. Lucie
I recently graduated from pslhs and am now starting college (coommunity) and honestly feel that this school has not prepared me for college in any way, shape, or form! Some teachers try, but the students dont care what so ever. It is more like a day care rather that an learning institute. I would not reccommend this school to anyone looking for a worthy education. The staff cares more about dress code over anything else. The guidence office is very rude and unwilling to help out....I give creidt for the teachers that did try, but the majority just are there to get paid and babysit. Sadly, an 07' graduate from PSL
I taught at PSL High for 3 1/2 years in a curriculum designed to help students pass the FCAT. I did not agree with how the curriculum was set up or how students were placed in it. I cared and I tried very hard, but I felt that the administration was interested in not making waves. As a parent, I would not send my children to that school.
This school and its administration are horrible. The ESE department, the art department and the gym are deplorable. The school facility itself looks like it's 30 years behind the times. The teachers are overworked and underpaid & underappreciated by teh administration.
The academic program is marginal at best. Music and sports are available, but the students rarely participate because they do not have school spirit. Parents rarely attend functions and are rude and inconsiderate when they do attend. Getting help from a guidance counselor is like pulling teeth. The other schools in the district are just as awful.
We moved to PSL 2 years ago. While we are happy with our child's acedemic performance, we can not say the same about the administration. The guidence dept. is far from helpful, in fact they are rude. The more we try to get involved at school level, the more roadblocks we run in to. The teaching staff is fine and I beleive they try their best. But it is like pulling teeth to get information or help from administrators.
