This school is not a good place to put your child it is also not a fun place to be and if your child go's there make sure they pack a lunch.they don't care about the children . IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS SCHOOL DO THE RONG THING TO THE TEACHERS AND IF THEY SAY YOU GET A REFFERRAL SAY (ok you don't tell me what to do).and they will have nothing to say.GOOD LUCK.and If you care and love child please do not send them to this school. PLEASE I BEG YOU!
Oak Hammock K-8 is not a good school. Your kids will hate it here. I have been going here since the 3rd grade; I am now in 7th grade. Our dress code is the worst. Up until this year we were able to wear jeans. Now we must wear khaki, navy, black, and or grey pants, and they must not be denim. Our lunch is gross and drenched in oil. The only good thing about our school is the Special needs teachers and the support and understanding the middle school teachers give us.
I've been at this school since first grade (since it first opened), and I am currently a seventh grader there. This school is pretty horrible. Most of the teachers, or at least the ones I've had, are pretty mean. It seems as if they care only about the money they're getting from being there, and not about the students. I suppose the staff (such as the dean, attendance person, etc) are alright. The language arts teachers are horrible.. All of the grammar, spelling (etc) skills that I have, I managed to just kinda pick up on it by reading and what not. Point is, the teachers are horrible. Do not go to this school. PLEASE.
Wow. I am so shocked to hear the review regarding the different ethnic groups. The State of Florida provides standards by which students are taught, called the Sunshine State Standards. These standards mandate the content of what students in Florida public schools learn. The standards include learning about different cultures and countries, from Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is very concerning to me that someone would try to deter anyone from learning about these Social Studies topics. I am so happy that the teachers made it clear that it was not optional.
My daughter is in the special education class and I must say the teachers are excellent and nurturing. I have been very happy with the school since we first moved to Florida almost 2 years ago. My daughter can now read, write and no longer needs speech classes. Keep up the excellent job!!
I can't understand why more is not done to protect our children at this school. Anyone can come up and pick a child afterschool, most of the time the staff out there isn't even paying attention. I've personally walked up and grabbed my daughter and no one noticed!!!! Some one should be checking to make sure these kids are going home with the right person. Why even bother sending home consent forms for pick up?? If anyone can come pick up a child!! When I addressed my concerns, I was basically told they do not have enough time for that because they would be there all day! This school is just a hooot mess that is unorganized! Pick up go alot better with proper planning and time scheduling!!
This school is a ghetto dump. When I was in this school for 7th grade, I was bullied, punched, socially left out and other tragadies. I am far past it now, and I am in advanced classes. Please listen. Do not make the same mistake my parents made. DONT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!
I would like to know why there is no info on their website??? The principals message is from the 08-09 school year and we are in the 10-11. Gee behind the times a little???
I would like to see more parent involvement at this school. I have been very involved since this school opened and I have seen parent participation decline. I feel you cant complain so much if you dont try to help. Stop blaming only teachers. Teaching begins at home and by example. Volunteer to help out before forming opinions.
I have 3 children who all went to school born and raised in Florida, by far this is the worst school I have ever had to deal with. Their lack of communication and caring about the student is horrible. I wish I never put my youngest in this school. I should of let him go to St Lucie West where my girls had no problems!!!
I have been at this school since the doors opened for the fist time. I am so Sorry to tell you it was the BIGGEST mistake to send my child here. I can't say the whole school is bad but I can say the teachers my child had this year were just NOT teachers , thy don't teach and they don't care!!! If ou havea child steer clear of this school as your choice!
I agree with the parent about the administration's favoritism. My wife and myself were treated very badly when we inquired about a situation with our son. I think that more parents should come forward and voice out against racism that is taking place in the Port Saint lucie public schools.
Oak Hammock is a great School. It has a very good team and they really care about their students. My son loves being there.
I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!! This school is the best choice for your kids to be happy, to learn and at the same time have fun!! I'm going to 7th grade this year and I have been here since 4th grade and this school opened a year before. So i went the 2nd year it was opened. I always wanted to go to this school and now it's VERY SAD that i only have 2 years left here at Oak Hammock K-8 =( The teachers are awesome I have never been taught like this at this school. The extracurriculars are also fun and very good for us. At this school you actually want to be open and have good friends and great teachers. The safety is very awesosme here too because i have never felt so protective at any other school. This school is my 2nd home! I LOVE OAK HAMMOCK K-8!!!
Overall leadership is good but they are way too obssesed about dress code. Do not think that most teachers are prepared enough with good skills. School lacks teaching skills, and advanced students get homework pretty mych every day unlike the not advanced students, who lack homework.
This school is way to obssesed about dresscode! Thay heardly care about learning! No sports or anything! Staff is rude and dissrespectfull, towards parents and students!
Bad bad school, focused more on what the students wear than on what theyre learnig, rude, disrespectful, mean staff
i was in 7th grade when this school opened and was sent there. i liked this school as one of my favorite that i've gone to. Although i was only able to be there for 2 years, i enjoyed it. Most of my teachers were great, especially the band teacher. The dress code was a little strict, but as an alumni, i'd recommend this school. Go Ospreys!
