Teacher effectiveness: Effective
July 20, 2015
The teachers are very nice and friendly. If they aren't, it is because you are a bad student and they have no patience for you.

Amount of homework: Not enough

I am a student an I live to learn. I am taking classes that are 3 years before my time. The children who are not though, are most likely behind. The teachers need to give us more work so ensure that we retain our knowledge that we have just learned.

Develops empathy: Disagree

No, but like I said before, it is not the student's fault, it is the parent's fault and their job.

Develops honesty: Disagree
July 20, 2015
The teachers cannot do anything to make students more honest. That is the parent's job. I am going to be honest and say that most of the student's parents at this school are horrible. They curse and have no respect for others. That is the parents I am talking about. But, how can you expect those kids to be little angels if all they learn is bad?

I love this school and all the students are really nice. No one ever bullies me or jumps me. That is saying a lot because I am white.

JFK is the most horrible middle school that our son has attended. They believe in test scores to better their average in the school system for a better budget. They have a reading program done on a computer that is managed by the head reading coach (this reading coach, with genuine pride, informed me that due to this program, her son finally managed to pass the ASVAB after three tries. For those of you who don't know, that's the military entrance exam, in which you only need to score an 11 out of a 99 possible.) On a different note, Palm Beach Post wrote an article announcing the beginning of an African American History honors class at JFK, this being done only so the majority of black students could understand and grasp where they originated from. This is literally as reported in the PB Post news. The school, inadvertently, teaches racism by showing that there is a divide between whites and blacks. My son felt this on a daily basis. The last 4 months out of an entire school year was spent studying FCAT methods and questions so to improve overall test scores for the school itself. The school will not say that though, but that is what my son brought home on a daily basis.

I realy hated this school. Students dont barely learn anything, Teachers are trying their best to teach, but students just dont listen. Students get BULLIED, Alot of Fights, Low FCAT scores, and most important students in thier Gym period's get "JUMPED" by other students causing most of them to leave the school including Me. I was once a student of JFK, students thier would always bully me for things I would do,and when i change in the lockerooms, They would always jump me for no reason. The only fun i had was when we went to orlando for a feild trip. Thats why I rate this school a 1.

Worse school ever. The students do no respect teachers or staff members. The bell schedule is messed up. It is a dumping ground for new teachers that do no want to be at the school. Kids will disrupted learning and nothing will be done.

Starting in 2010 JFK began their IB program accreditation that will enable children of PBC schools to focus on an international education and on giving back to the community through volunteer work. The new staff and teachers are dedicated and they run a very tight ship - with a great student to teacher ratio and a school that is only 3 years old.

This school, like any other schools, will have some flaws. The children fight almost everyday and they think they're extremely 'grown'. So they have raging hormones that just distort their personality. BUT, also like any other schools, the majority of it is really good. I have made sooo many friends here and those are students that DO care about their future and DO care about their education. The teachers are also awesome!! You can really tell they care about the students and the success of them. As an honor roll student, I can tell that although this school has a bad reputation, you can tell that within almost every student, there is a spark of goodness and common sense in them that will change your perspective of this school. I recommend this school.

This school is the best because all the teachers are great. They communicate with another to see what is wrong in each of your class and then do hands on activities with you or with the class. It is a biomedical enviornmental agriculture technology magent program.

What a difference a year makes. Any animosity that was bestowed upon Mrs. Crutchfield was obviosly unwarranted and that being the case, the Palm Beach Post needs to write a rebuttle. Honestly, it's hard to believe that it's the same school as years past. Yes, fights still occur, but nowhere near the capacity of prior years. In fact, you could easily say days go by without a fight. Furthermore, walking the halls of the school, students seem engaged in each classroom and are quiet as their teachers lecture. Also students are leaving and arriving on time and whatever confusion might have been before with the administration is now very confident and organized. I honestly feel that this school is going to become a true magnet school that leads to Suncoast High.

My daughter attended this school in in 2002-2003. She did well because she had no learning issues. But when my son attended this school it was a night mare. when i needed to contact a teacher only the P.E teacher called back. Only one teacher. The principal at that time would run away when she saw you and I felt so frustrated as a parent. I knew that in order for him to succeed I would have to take him out of this school. They had no problem in suspending my child for defending him self I felt no one cared. As soon as I took my son out there was a great improvement in his life as well as mine. The E.S.E department has so much improvement to do. They put severely behavorial problem children with kids that are not aggressive. From a parent

This school has come a long way! They have very enthusiastic teachers and a SAC group that is using all of the available resources so that teachers can better prepare students for not the FCAT but for high school and beyond. One thing about it the teachers and staff can't do it alone, though they are really trying, but there needs to be more parent involvement. But I have faith in the VIKINGs that eventually those of us that volunteer at the school and are involved in SAC will find a way to get more parent involvement. Go Vikings! We will become an A school!!!

My child isn t a student of JFK, however, after reading the comments posted I m hesitant about sending her to this school. You see a recruiter came to my daughter's school and told her class about the great programs JFK has to offer. When she came home she was excited about JFK and now wants to attend JFK. The comment about how this school should be closed down because it s a dumping ground for sub-standard teachers really concerns me. This is a very strong opinion to ignore especially when it refers to a place where I had planned to leave my child. The D rating did not concern me, my concern is her safety.

This 'school' should be close down as it is a dumping ground for those sub-standard teachers and faculty that weren't allowed to continue at any other school. Rather than prevent them from negatively influencing the future leaders of the free world, they are sent here. This school is unsafe. If you are a sub-standard teacher and you still have bills to pay, sign up

The school should have no dress code. Students should be able to wear shorts (not short shorts, but shorts.) My child came to school to learn not to be harrassed by what they should wear. Instead of worrying about what my child wear they should be more concerned about how they teach my child or what my child is learning.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
