As a former member of Ascension who was actively involved with the school start up and still connected to the teachers parents and students I can attest to the students education and spiritual well being as the focus of the school not to mention the low student-teacher ratio with highly educated teachers. Any parent would feel blessed to have their child educated at Ascension.

I am a previous student and I honestly feel Ascension was an integral part of both my academic and spiritual development. Intimate class sizes allow staff to personalize lessons and push you to your fullest potential.

This is a great school to get an education from a biblical perspective with caring teachers.

As a single parent who has had one child complete Ascension and another enrolled currently I choose it because of the fact that it trains a child in the way of the Lord. Don't we all want to equip our children with the armor to deal with a world that is at times cruel. My children are blessed to be able to attend a school that is not afraid to help them develop the courage to stand up against the things they know are wrong and to stand up for their Faith. Thank you ALS for being there for all of us.

I am a former teacher. Ascension has always had the full support of the congregation, with many members contributing their own time and effort. The staff has changed, but remains very capable, God-fearing educators. So many families have been blessed to receive not only a great education but also having their children instructed in God's Word, and there is nothing more important than that.

I have had a two children in the school for the last eight years. They have been very successful in their education. One child has been a grade ahead in math and performs well above grade level. I really appreciate the fact that God's Word is incorporated in all facets of the students life. I encourage anyone looking for a small school with low student/teacher ratio to check our Ascension.

Our school shows the love of God to students in all we do. This is demonstrated by the way individual students are valued and in the way they are taught, as children of God who have unique needs and unique gifts.

I have been a parent of students of Ascension school for many years. I know most every family and I know of only 1 or 2 students in the life of the school who have been held back or "retained" - certainly not "many". And, isn't it is a good thing if the school has the courage and concern to hold a student back, and not just pass the buck on their education? Whoever wrote that doesn't really know the school, or the lengths to which the faculty go to get every child academically, emotionally, and yes, spiritually ready for life in the world. The truth is out there for any who are honestly considering Ascension Lutheran school. Ask around, not just one or two who post a bad review. Nationally accredited. Small student teacher ratios. Christian love. We are happy to have our children at Ascension!

So focus on religion but education is poor...many students do repeat or retain a year....

In my opinion, the school is unprepared, very small and unable to meet student educational needs. Lack in leadership.

Love this school. This is a small Christian school Pre-k - 8th in Sarasota. The kindergarten teacher is so sweet and her classroom is so cozy and inviting. My daughter is academically advanced. I just enrolled her in this school for kindergarten. Lower student to teacher ratio than any other private school I have looked at. As soon as I set foot on the grounds I knew it was the right school for her. She attended a one week Spanish vacation bible school at Ascension and had a ball. I was so impressed by how much Spanish she learned in just 6 days. At the end of the VBS the children sang three songs in Spanish in front of the congregation. Then they had a fiesta with pinatas, breakfast burrito bar, bounce house... The pastors, teachers and volunteers are all so nice. You can tell that they love what they do. They make you feel very welcome. I am also Catholic like the previous reviewer and felt right at home here. I haven't actually been there for the school year so my review is based on first impression and vacation bible school but from what I have seen I love it! They encourage the older children to help the younger ones which I really liked.

This school is simply FANTASTIC!!! Both of my children attended Pre-school there for 2 years each. Wonderful Preschool classrooms, great little playground for the kids and best of all the teachers are so very patient, caring, kind and educated. All are certified as well as follow a wonderful curriculum! We aren't Lutheran but Catholic and I just LOVED the Structure. Everything is well balanced! The staff in Pre-school as well as the elementary, and middle school are SO very nice and personable. I'm so thankful I had this school to help me raise my children! ~Parent of 2 and A High School Teacher

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
