Love, Love, Love this school. Both my children have had great teachers and I feel lucky to be sending them there. We could not ask for a better education .
To the previous parent: You don't need a voucher system. Sarasota offers school choice as well as charter schools. There is no reason to have your child at a school where your child is not thriving. Best of luck to you.
We have had two children go through Ashton and now have a 3rd. The first two the school was wonderful, but now in 2012 it seems to have lost the best teachers, and the principals seem to lack the leadership they once showed. My son is so demoralized by the teachers in this school he is very depressed when he comes home. He does not like to go there, and the staff is not much help. We would like to send him someplace else, but its not like we have a choice. There is no voucher system in sarasota, as there should be. We feel stuck sending our child to a place he is not wanted. Maybe its better for girls, but it is not good for boys.
My child just started kindergarten at this school and everything has been great so far. She is actually asking to go to bed early because she can't wait to get up and go to school the next day.
We love Ashton because it provides our children with a great place to learn and the teachers a great place to work!
Ashton is an amazing school and the principal is outstanding. The staff really cares about the children and make a difference in each childs life. I can rest assure knowing my child is receiving the highest level of education.
Ashton is a wonderful school your child would love it it has awsome staf members everyone is nice and friendly
Although the student population is very large, the teachers all seem to have everything well under control. The principal is outstanding and is very popular with the teachers and students. I have a kindergardner and first grader and I couldn't be happier with either their teachers or the curriculum. Even the support staff seems to care about the kids. Lots of parent involvement which helps the teachers concentrate on the learning environment.
By far the best school I have had the pleasure of working with. Excellence was the goal in all areas of the school. Academic programs were challenging for each grade level. Citizenship and acountability were highly valued. The children were given standards on conduct and challenged to exceed them. The 'specials' program consisted of music, art, cultural connections, computer lab, and p.e. The well rounded program allowed the children to explore their own special talents and interests. Parent and community business involvment was outstanding. I had opportunities to support both my son's and daughter's classes. The teachers were able to provide better learning experiences due to the level of support by the parents. This school would by my choice again if given the chance to return to Sarasota.
Ashton is a wonderful school. My 4 children went there and their teachers were awesome. Everyone there makes you feel really welcome. We have moved to hilsboro county and will miss Ashton the most out of everything in Sarasota.
I think Ashton is a great school for average and above average kids. I don't think it's the best choice for children with learning disabilites.
I love this school, i have nothing to say bad about it. the teachers are great and understanding with the students and my daughters education has improved greatly.
I have not been happy with this school. My child has dyslexia and even though I came with the proof they waited all year before they agreed to test her for it. Now she is so behind in her reading and writting I have gotten a privet tutor for her. I feel if the would have done intervention earlier things would have been better. They also expect alot from 1st graders. they are graded on how they spell words sucj as Birthday Thristy Nurse, what ever happen to cat hat and dog. thanks
My daughter and I were unfortunate to move so many times in our life. She changed schools seven times during her elementary years. The most time she spent is 2nd , 3rd , and the first half of 4th at Ashton Elementary. We just recently moved back to Sarasota and now she is finishing 5th grade at that school . She loves to go to school and be challenged. She always had GREAT teachers. The PTO is awesome! This is a GREAT school!!
Do not attend this school if your child is challenged with ADHD and has other behavioral disorders. Ashton is prepared to handle the 'normal' student and students with special hearing needs. However, should your child become behaviorally difficult, she/he may even be transferred to another district school or you will be encouraged to seek private education alternatives. Ashton has a very abbreviated ESE program and defaults to other district schools for additional support. By listening to the staff and agreeing to each of their reccommendations/ solutions to enhance your child's educational experience will you be able to provide the best on-going support for your child. They are the experts and will tell you what you can do with your child in every instance.
