Colson Elementary School has been a wonderful learning experience. The grounds are tidy, teachers are caring and the staff is pleasant. My son actually wants to be at class each day. The outdoor activities keep the children involved and motivated ...IE: Field day,Running Club , Turkey Dance..etc...The staff at Colson always remembers my childs name and is very helpful if I have any questions. I would like to seem more focus on spelling and hand writing. Too much focus on the State testing may be keeping other topics ignored. Our child feels comfortable and safe going to school. I do not mind the Lock Downs and appreciate the concern for keeping the school safe. The children talk about how great the environment is at the Library, Chorus and PE. Able to speak with the teachers even if it is not conference night .
Colson is a wonderful elementary school! I started volunteering at the school since my first child started Kindergarten. I have gotten to know all the staff and teachers. They are top-notch! They are always available to talk about any problems or issues. The campus is beautiful and clean. There are so many resources and great parental involvement activities at the school. I would highly recommend Colson Elementary School!
colson elementary is a bad school and i do NOT recommend any students to go here. the staff is very mean and rude (also on occasion they have cursed at my daughter) and should not be let to teach the school. i do not like the way they treat my daughter and how they show favoritism. my daughter has insomnia and emotion episodes because of the way that the teachers treat her. one specific teacher called her a "smart allac" in front of the whole class and has caused her to lose many friends. i hope they can try to get better, because so far, they have been getting worse. there is also bullying, and the bullies in particular, one kid. she has been very rude and has now been made a "bus patrol 'helper'" i do not appreciete how that child can yell and tell other kids to "shut up and be quite" also to curse on the bus and be the loudest child on the bus but not get in the slightest trouble. and dont even get me started on the bus drivers! on MULTIPLE occasions my child was waiting for the bus and the bus never even stopped for her! but when i finally caught up to the bus she gave ME an attitude! and she told me "I have alot more attitude then you!!!" not suitable at all for my children.
My children started Colson this year and it will be the only year they endure it. I was told at a parent teacher conference that since the guidance counselor has two schools to maintain, my daughter should get as much outside help as possible. She said my daughter was very sweet and quiet and would fall through the cracks. My son's teacher was better but he has an easier time learning than my daughter. My daughter needs extra help in reading so they started giving her extra help but the only problem was they were doing it during math so she was getting behind in that. Then we recieve a letter saying the school had failed the FLorida reading assessment and if we chose, they could attend another school. The year was half way over! Her teachers were nice but uninvolved. Therefore they will be attending another school next year.
Great teamwork with Parents and Staff and Students. I love the warm welcome everytime you wlk into the office!
this is the 2nd year my kids have came to colson and i think the school is great my son has ABHD and the teachers are doing a great job and he is now ongrade level in work when he was undergread level thank you so very much tina
We have had to move a lot and in the course my kids have had to attend various schools. I have to say that from the elementary schools that they have had to attend the best transition time has been with Colson. My boys love the school, and feel quite at ease. One of my boys is in gifted classes while the other is not, yet I see both being challenge well and they both are equally smart. The interaction I have had with the staff has been wonderful. I would definitely recommend this school to other parents.
what I think about this school is that out of all the other schools in the area this happens to be second worst.the children dont learn instruments even when the children been collecting money and box tops to do so.wich means no orchestra team.does not have computer lab . the most gifted children are in regular classes when they know themselves they deserve to treated more intellegently.no math contests ,reading contests (only for 4 graders)I will grade this school with a D
My son has been in the Deaf/HOH program for 3 years now. It is wonderful! My son is six so we have only experienced the preschool/Kindergarten teacher but she definitely has the the kids best interests at heart. She has always made me feel included in his schooling. We have had very effective EP meetings and have never had a problem getting in touch with his teacher. The school is very Deaf friendly and I love that!
I have been very satisfied with level of engagement the teachers at Colson have with their students. I have a 5 and 12 year old attending this school. My experiences with both of their teachers has been nothing short of great. The teachers are very caring and work with my children's specific needs and personalities. I would highly recommend Colson.
We take pride in the school that my daughter has attended over the last 4 years. This year is her final year and Colson has been a school of choice for us. Colson elementary strongest side has been reading achievement. I must say that our daughter has taken serious interest in her reading since she has a reading level that is out of this world for your average child. Colson does have some milestones that must be addressed but for the most part they have very little teacher interaction with the parents until a problem arises. Colson has earned its grade for the last few years with the help of students and parents that have put their best interest in the kids that attend.
My youngest son is now attending Colson, his older brother has moved on to Burnett. Colson is a good school for the average student, I believe, but it is weak when dealing with diagnosing and providing services for special needs students. There are a lot of stall tackics used such as 'prescreening'. We wasted nearly two years of my middle sons education with prescreening, promises with no action. If you have a special needs student or you think you do, I would advise to know the law, put everything in writing, and advocate and hopefully with this your child won't fall further behind as mine did.
My son is Hearing Impaired we moved here from CT. & were pleasantly surprised by what the school has offered to us. We have found them to be very helpful, and Deaf friendly. There was a culture shock in the level of parent involvement when compared to CT. Schools, I believe that a parent is key to a childs success and as long as you stay involved you can make a difference. I am having a hard time locating good extra-curricular programming so far. I have not been too impressed by any of the PTA programs. I am noticing a huge focus on the State testing...and this concerns me..but this is due to the No Child Left Behind Act..and the school is doing there best to deal with the fall out.
I have found that this school has been a wonderful school with very good teachers and staff. I have enjoyed going to the school for the holiday music programs and other events they have going all year. My 2 granddaughters have thoroughly enjoyed this school for their entire 6 yrs. as students. I have even had the opportunity to speak with a few of the teachers personally.
Colson is a very nice clean school. The campus is beautiful. The reading program at Colson was good but limiting sometimes, not allowing better readers to get credit for reading above level. There are many new teachers there to blend with the seasoned veteran teachers. As a parent I recommend that you involve yourself in your child's education and enjoy the experience along with your child. Colson allows parents to be as involved with their childs education as they wish.
