I graduated from Sunset Elementary in 1998 and went on to Carver. I do not know what the other language programs are like, but the French program was terrible. In Sunset, we were divided into two groups: those who spoke French at home, and those who didn't. Guess what? In Carver, they throw you all together. Sunset did nothing to prepare me for that. In addition, I learned very little as much of my time was spent on projects. In fifth grade, everyone had to pick a French landmark and reconstruct it. I chose Notre Dame Cathedral and began building it out of cardboard and popsicle sticks. My mother saw the projects that my friends (with a LOT of help from their parents) were creating, and quickly realized that she needed to help out. My project won first place at the Fair, but I learned nothing. One of my classmates' parents paid an architect several thousand dollars to create hers; it won best in show. Sunset greatly destroyed my self-esteem, sense of self worth and motivation. They focused too much on their image when they should have been concerned for the well being of their students. I hope things have changed since then, but I have my doubts.

My son graduated last year and is extremely proud of his school. Sunset teachers are very involved with their students and the end result is an excellent education. The language program is the best in the county and produces a true world citizen.

The school has exceeded my expectations, the dual education program, along with the gifted curriculum and moreover, the quality of the Teachers, makes it worth every minute my son spends in the school. I often joke with my friends how they have to spend enormous amount of tuition for less than what we get from a Magnet Public School such as Sunset Elementary.

Beware if you have your child in the IE (home school) program! Unless your child is in the Magnet program (foreign languages), your child will ignored. Administration is very unhelpful to IE students and parents.

This school has a language program that produces trully bilingual/biliterate children. I love the amazing, dedicated teachers that work at this school.
