my daughter started kindergarten the 1st week she brought me a drawing home. i asked my daughter 2 explain the drawing 2 me & she said "its me standing on the wall & the teacher yelling at me" I was mad of course but i explained 2 my kid the teachers are under a lot of stress lets see if anything changes. Well its week 2 & my daughter is hating school. she loved preschool and her teachers. going 2 c about getting a diff. teacher. Then you buy the items they have listed on their website for supplies then send a letter home saying it was a mistake here is the right list with a additional 42 items. when i asked 4 the items back that were not on the list i was told i would get them by last fri. Well this is weds & i have yet 2 get anything returned. I am a single mom of 5. i asked my child what she did at recess yesterday & she said she has never went outside since school started. I have 3 cousins that have not either and they did the same thing with their supply lists so it is not just 1 grade. Also in the dress code it says dress shoes are ok as long as they have gym shoes in there backpack. the first day of school i was told no dress shoes aloud. Sad for my child.
I have my daughter she is 5 soon to be 6. She has a disability..and this school has been great with everything.I had a problem..the staff everyone was quick to find answers..and get the problem fixed..my daughter is going this year into kindergarten..and she loves it!!!...I would say this is a great school!!
Only school worse in area is Moton. Sitting in my car waiting on my son outside a classroom it sounded like an insane asylum. The teacher was ranting like a lunatic. My son has to fight everyday with ill mannered thugs. Eastside is worlds better or Challenger if you get lucky.
i didnt even get an apology from the teacher she acted as if it was my fault.this year for grade 2 if i didnt call i wouldnt know what is an acceptable colors or anything for the uniform policy because they did not update their website if i didnt drive by the school i would never have known there was uniforms this year and as for open house in the next few days once again nothing on the website and nothing was sent in the mail how on earth are parents suppossed to know anything if nothing is updated or sent home we cant drive by the school 24/7 or call every day to know such things.i know its our job as parents to do these things but the school has to help a little bit if u look at the school list the school needs help with supplies but why would anyone care to help a school who dont care about our children. you give what u get and if the school dont give why should i go above and beyond for such a bad school .it were up to me id change schools but deltona is the closest one and that is the school i was told she had to go to.
My disabled child went here for 2 years and she was being abused by staff. **this is no allegation!!**She was not alone. The teacher even asked me why I brought her to school..as if she didnt want to put up with my small 4 year old child. At that time I should have saw it as a red flag to never let them set hands on my child. This school is great for those who can speak up for themselves..I am sure. But take a look at the ESE classrooms..look at the professionalism of the male OT on staff. I spoke with the staff about my concerns and then I was not allowed to go to my daughters classroom without 72 hours notice...interesting... When a child who can barely speak sees a school built similar to it nearby (Moton) and starts screaming I dont want to go here in a fearful tone it makes one wonder..what really happened to my child???
Excellent administrators, teachers and staff. Caring, supportive environment. Dedicated to academic excellence in everything they do.
My son goes to this school and he loves it. He is in first grade ( Mrs. Licht class). They keep you updated and are always there when needed.
My daughter has attended Deltona since Pre-K. She is currently in 5th grade and we are sad to be leaving next year. She has had a variety of teachers from 1st year to teachers who have been there as long as the school has (or at least it seemed that way). I love the staff and how interested they are in helping both the parents and students. My daughter has of course had a few teachers throughtout the years that just didn't seem to achieve as much as we would have wanted but all in all it is a great school. There are a couple of teacher I would like to commend for what a great job they have done in gaining not only the respect of my daughter but challenged her where she needed it...Mrs. Jones (4th grade) and Mr. Weed (science teacher)
I'm a fifth grader at DES, and since I've been here this school has grown from average to great, and they will keep growing.
My son started Kindergarten this year at Deltona. He loves his teacher, Mrs. Dunham. She is very on top of everything. She keeps parents updated with weekly news letters home, responds quickly to notes asking questions, and has a website with a class calendar so I know when my son has PE vs Art or Music each day. I can also email her with any questions via her website. We are very happy with her, it has made the transition from pre-school into Elementary school easy on me as a parent, knowing I am kept up to date on my son, but also that my son loves his teacher. Deltona has worked very hard to meet all of the new class size requirements ( my son has 17 students in his class), the staff is pleasant.
Great school for innovative instructional techniques. Wonderful place for learning!
My daughter was a student of Mrs. Melton's 3 rd grade class and Mrs. Melton went way out of her way to help Amberly succeed. Thank you so much for everything that you do we will miss you next year and can only hope that her next teacher is as wonderful as you :) Wonderful staff and always eager and willing to help out where ever and however possible. - Amber Gobbels
Deltona Elementary is a Organized and Safe school. I have never experienced a school that was willing to open my car door and escort my child out of the vehicle, so my daughter can go to school. Rain or shine the staff is always pleasant and polite. Keep up the good work. -Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez
My daughter learned so much in her first year at Deltona Elem. She got her therapies she needed right away, she loves her teacher and her classmates. Mr DeMoss is great with her, she looks forward to going to school every day. He is easy to talk to, and available to talk anytime you need him. His helpers in the class are great as well. My daughter never had a problem there. I think its a safe school, all the teachers know each child that comes in, and call them by their names. I haven't seen anything negative yet, I'm happy my daughter is happy. I look forward to many happy years here.
Deltona is an outstanding k-5 school with a caring and talented staff. Mrs Chapin is doing a terrific job as principal. I don't really know the new asst principal yet. I'm sure she'll have a great year as well.
safety is a top issue here.a secure campus. must have a visitors pass, and still within minutes a faculty member will approach you to say hi and to be sure you are where you are supposed to be . this is a safe atmosphere. picking kids up at this school is tough, very crowded, long lines. people start lining up half hour before school gets out. line goes out and down the road, but is pretty orderly. this is our first year here, but seems to be good school, good teachers, clean and safe. the principal, mrs. dunleavy, is wonderful. she is very nice and always willing to meet with you.
I think this school does not have enough activities for the children and I also think there is not enough extra help if a child need's it.
My child has attended Deltona Elementary School since he has been three years old. My child has Autism and was put in their early intervention program. I was highly pleased with Ms.Peggy Griffin's approach with my son. She helped me learn more about my son's disorder. Together we divised a plan using a picture communication system. This system helped my child better communicate reducing the amount of tantrums he would have. My son is now in a 'normal' 1st grade class and an ESE class for some of the day. Along with the help of Mr. DeMoss these teachers have always gone out of their way to help my family. They have looked up information for me and made picture schedules for me on their own time. If we go to an event at after school and my child has problems they are more then happy to help.
