Bottom line, St Johns Grammar School is an exceptional school. They are excellent at truly individualizing curricula for each student. The teachers learn their students abilities, strengths and shortcomings, which enables them to really focus on the success of each student, at whatever pace that may be. All schools SAY they recognize each student as an individual, but St. Johns actually DOES formulate a plan best suited to your child.
My son has developmental delays and was having a very hard at public school. We started him at SJGS in Kindegarten last summer and has far exceeded our expectations! He is also way beyond where his public school IEP goals were for the year. We are so happy with his results that his little sister starts next summer! We would recommend this school to anyone.
This is the best school in St. Johns County and perhaps in NE Forida. My child has grown so much and beyond our expectations in her first year. The small and secure campus adds to the wonderful setting and teaching/learning environment. The teachers and faculty go out of their way to communicate with parents and we are are just impressed with the front office who are some of the most caring and professional people in education we have ever met. We can't say enough positive things about this one of a kind learning institution and encourage all to go out and take a tour for yourselves. You will be impressed and your children will learn so much.
I would have to say that SJGS excels on many levels. Communication is excellent at the school with regular e-mails and notes homes. The teachers are regularly available and many can be contacted by phone and e-mail after hours. The teachers also communicate with the parents on a regular basis. The Pre-K program at this school cannot be compared to any other. I would encourage anyone to sit on on a class for any of the programs to see what is offered at this level. My children have attended this school for several years and I have gotten to know all the teachers very well and I would say that the teachers who are returning next year are all very good.
This school is below par on many levels. We selected this school based on many empty promises. Communication is poor and at times unprofessional. The pre-K program that my son was enrolled in seemed not to be a priority in the realm of the school. This school did house several very good teachers who have since resigned.
Why all the positive reviews? I have to say, it doesn't make sense to me. Our child's education was swept under the rug at St. Johns Grammar School. it is so disheartening to me to know how much money we spent on a beautiful campus instead of a thorough education. Realizing how far along other children are makes me so concerned for her future. There is just no excuse.
This school continues to far exceed my expectations. Each student is given the opportunity to progress at a very rapid rate. Parents may choose to become as involved as their schedules allow. Communication from teachers is frequent and consistent. Every child is given the opportunity to participate in all activities - violin, vocal music, chess, track and field, drama, art and Spanish to name a few. This build confidence and identifies hidden talents. The campus is beautiful and peaceful. A campus tour and a personal meeting with the Director is always available and very informative!
My child has attended St. Johns Grammar School for 4 years now and we are just as happy today as we were 4 years ago. Fortunately, the high quality of teachers and advanced curriculum is consistent and the approach of developing the 'whole-child' gives my child the lessons needed for becoming a well-rounded person. Community Service projects and Field trips are life altering events whether it is supporting local charities, supporting our military, or hands on marine biology. The small class size is perfect for allowing the teacher to set the pace of lessons. Children can be challenged above and beyond the normal curriculum. Outdoor play on the 1 acre playground is so crucial to a child's development. At SJGS, all grades have the fortunate opportunity to have any where from 30-50 minutes of outside time a day. The environment is nurturing, yet effective in educating. Definitely consider this school.
We have two children in the lower school and one child in the middle school. We could not be more pleased with the growth we have seen in our children, not only in academics but also in leadership, citizenship, art, music, athletics, speech, drama and chess! The ability to work as a team - director, teachers and parents to customize for each individual child is what sets this great school apart from the others.
Our children have been attending St. Johns Grammar School for 3 years. When we first toured the school it felt like 'home.' The campus is gorgeous with acres of unspoiled nature creating a serene and secluded environment. The teachers and staff at SJGS act as a family unit, their concern for their students evident in their every daily action. SJGS offers a great deal beyond core academics, including orchestra (1st grade and up!), foreign language, chess club, karate, track and field, cheerleading and more. These activities take place with enthusiastic and encouraging leadership from the teachers involved. The academics are indeed accelerated at SJGS, particularly in the lower school (K3-4th grade), and most notably in math. You'd be surprised how many children can handle the faster pace when given just such a chance. Their character development program stresses respect, integrity and kindness, with students involved in numerous community projects. There is a positive difference here.
