At first, I was worried that my child would'nt advance because some other 1st graders didnt know english, but I was dead wrong. They showed no signs of being behind and the childrens reading skills improved daily. We got updates on other students achievements! Class was competitive with books and let the children borrow several at a time from the classroom. Her homework was informative and fun to read. Schoolwide functions were a delight and the principal and Dean greeted everyone and recognized your face. I recommend this school to any parent 100%. Too bad we moved.
I had my son in the preschool for ESE services. I am pleased with the IEP plan they came up for him and the progress that he made while he was at the school.
Port Salerno Elementary is the best! The teachers are wonderful and go above and beyond. The principle, vice principle are easily accessible, enthusiastic and are always visible at school functions. PSE has a welcoming environment, everyone is friendly which makes students and families feel like one big team. GREAT SCHOOL!!
Port Salerno Elementary is a great school..the dedication from the principal to the teachers n even the non instructional staff is of higher quality ..I have 2 kids going there ....we feel great to part of PSE..
Port Salerno Elementary is wonderful school with a family atmosphere. Administration and staff are giving and caring. The children are anxious to learn.
My son will be entering 5th grade at PSE in the fall and has been attending since 2nd grade. I originally had great fears about sending him to PSE due to rumors and the composition of the neighborhood, and he initially attended private school before we decided to give the public school system a chance. We have been nothing but delighted with the teachers and administration of PSE. My son has excelled academically, both as to his grades and FCAT scores, and loves 'his' school. While I am sometimes disappointed with the lack of parent involvement at PTO, the school always has an excellent turnout at schoolwide functions. The quality of the instruction is top notch for the children who are able to take advantage of it, and there is plenty of remedial help for those children who are stuggling, usually due to language limitations.
I feel that the committment from the teachers is the number one reason I have kept my child at this school. They care without getting anything in return, unlike many of the surrounding schools that have a very high involvement from parents. There is a challenge for me as a parent because I don't see much involvement from other parents, but my daughter loves to go to school there and she has had the best teachers I could ever imagine. It is definitely a family of teachers that she is with, they are very caring and compassionate while enoforcing great academic push for the children in their classes. I feel that she is safe, loves her friends and she is being challenged academically, all of which are very important as she begins paving her path to her future.
This school is wonderful. They have an abundance of programs available to students to help achieve success. The feeling of 'family' makes it a great place to send my child to daily.
2Grand children are presently enrolled. Very good teachers and leadership. This is a very low income area with a majority of spanish speaking parents and children. Because of this we are very proud to achieve an A on the FCAT standards. This achievement four years ago was thought to be impossible but the children proved us wrong.
My daughter is currently in 2nd grade. She has attended PSE since Kindergarten. 2 of her teachers were outstanding, one was a little less then perfect but still wonderful. My daughter is reading at a 6th grade level. The instructors keep her challenged and interested. Praise is a priority also. I will miss this school when we move to the West Coast this summer.
