There are a lot of fights at this school. There is little the staff can do to stop the violence, and poor behavior of the students. Another concern is the lack of programs and clubs to enrich the students experience. Even the electives are lacking. My child signed up for violin, and managed to play it one day. After that, he never got a chance to play again. The class was wasted on school work instead of learning to use the instrument. How can the kids get excited about being there when it seems like a big kid daycare where kids are just shuffled from room to room?
Children are bullied a lot at this school. Pushing, shoving, kicking, and stealing. It all runs rampant in the halls and classrooms, and the teachers never see it when it starts. The kids are allowed to move around in the classrooms after the bell rings, even when there is no reason to do so.
This school is a breeding ground for bad behaviors ran by an administrative team that is completely detached from the needs of the students. It is no secret that Hillsborough County School District does not invest in Zone 4 schools. As of this writing the school picture posted when searched on google is not even in Florida. This school does offer programs that benefit those in the honors program. The rest of the students are largely those with known severe behavior disorders, or undiagnosed severe behavior disorders, destroying educational opportunities for others. Some strong-willed kids are able to grin and bear the daily schedule of behavioral issues, while the rest simply fall in line with the others. Why? There is little incentive to follow school rules, as the kids who don’t, receive minimal consequences. Kids can be seen running dangerously through the halls, openly using foul language, and strolling through halls casually after bells ring. The worst part is that this can be witnessed with administration standing by idly. When bells ring, they retreat to their offices before kids clear the halls. Fights occur daily due to lack of hall monitoring. It is sad to see that issues of reviews from 2014 are still present as of this writing. One review states that all the teachers are new. This is this because the few senior teachers teach honors classes, others teach with two teachers in the room, and rest are generally fed up and planning their escape to a better school. Another review explained that the office staff is rude. This stems from being forced to deal all the behavioral problems from day to day. The school district has only perpetuated these problems for this school and other Zone 4 schools by limiting the amount of school suspensions, instead of sending these places resources, and monitoring how the school administration run these buildings. But at least those district buildings are well ran, with plenty of security. Perhaps they are afraid the kids coming in those buildings and behaving the way they do in school all day! But then this is the same school district that went out and spent a million bucks to have an outside company come in and tell them that they’re spending way too much money on stupid stuff. If you must enroll your child in Hillsborough County Schools, I’m sorry. But if you must put them in a Zone 4 school, spend the time planning to get them in high school elsewhere because they will need to be retaught.
There is something very wrong with this school. The students are constantly bullying and disrespectful to teachers. The teachers are all fresh out of college. The administrative staff is rude. The teachers never have time for the students. Yes, there are a few diamonds in this rough of teachers, but my daughter feels completely consumed with drama here. Two students committed suicide in the last 5-6 years. The death (not the cause) of my daughter's friend was announced over the intercom. They had psychologists on campus for one day and then pretended nothing ever happened. There is something very wrong with this school!!
We have had great and not so great teachers at Adams. The school administration has been fantastic and very supportive with the issues that were brought to their attention. I'm very surprised at some of these negative reviews here because the principal always returned my phone calls and was more than happy to meet with me to help with an issue that we had with a teacher. Which turned out to be more of a misunderstanding and was resolved quickly after a meeting with the principal, teacher, my daughter and myself. My daughters main complaint has been about other student's behavior, name calling and bullying. I guess it's the age but she is looking forward to this being her last year there, even though I know she will miss quite a few of her teachers and staff.
I have a 7th grade student at this school. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with a school. Students unruly fights daily, teachers are over worked and frustrated some seems to be there for a paycheck, administrators lazy and rude!!! Not to mention the principle is never there or as they put it unavailable. I left a message for the AP Mr. Floyd he never returned my message.. Switching my son school ASAP he deserves better! reluctantly rated it an one should be a zero!!!
This school is a nightmare. I attended all three years and left in 2009. I graduated high school c/o 2013. Adams has some excellent teachers but the experience overall was miserable. I like to pretend it never happened. The classes were not challenging, and the students were just short of barbarians. Maybe that's just the age, but at this school, I felt like an animal, trapped in a cage with other animals of a more vicious breed, with the administration standing over the cage with the keys, smiling triumphantly at how well they're "disciplining" the unruly beasts.
