This school is exactly what middle schools need... an environment where they can take risks without the added pressure of boys. The girls have a wide range of activities to choose from after school and the teachers are second to none.

There is little no parental involvment. One parent is seen over and over again doing what she can. The teachers are expected to do everything on their own as well. They are fighting a battle that the parents are not willing to support. The faculty is amazing and the administration is on board and trying to lead but without parental involvment, their hands are tied. So sad.

The Administration at Ferrell Middle School does not enforce the dress code at all. It is very disappointing to see kids in jeans and t-shirts after paying a fortune for polo shirts and dress pants.

I found this school to be a 15 ring circus most of the time. It seems like te kids are running the school. Very spinless teaching situation. They have a hard time with behavior and uniforms.

I had to opportunity to work at Ferrell for 5 years. Yes, the school climate has changed. Yes, the magnet issues were not supported by the district. But the one thing I am sure of was that each and everyperson that worked there from the custodian, lunchroom, support, instructional and administrative all were committed to Ms. Filhart's statement that we are there to teach the students that we have, not the students that we wish we had, or the students that we want to have, but to the students that we do have. Finally, education begins and ends in the home. If more parents would join the PTSA and volunteer for the fundraiser, field trips, sporting events, lunch duty, and teacher assistants, then the staff can go after the never ending changes required of them by our legislature. God Bless Ferrell and the staff there. Mr. Scheer, 8th grade Language Arts, 2000-2005

Highs and lows at this school. My son enjoyed his first couple years at Ferrell, but the overall composite of the school has changed. It really can't be classified as a 'magnet' school anymore, as the majority of the students who now attend live in the neighborhood. Discipline problems have increased dramatically as a result, and I'm not sure if the staff feels all that supported (particular by the district). My son got a fair education there and many staff and teachers were both committed and supportive. But overall, I don't think it lived up to what it was advertised to be.
