Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I went to this school in 6th grade. It had the worst teachers ever and one of them just only liked the minorities and hated the white kids. There were so many fights and you never got anything done in class but, otherwise I had two good teachers. Otherwise it is a nightmare.

I an currently an 8th grader here at Benito ive been here since 6th grade and it is an amazing school. Im on the Yearbook Team so i usally see more behind the scenes at the school than any other child. I havent seen any bullying and nothing bad. There are some bad kids but with the help of the students we can confront them as soon as possible you deffenatly should enroll in this school its education is amazing <3 i probably wont miss benito but some of the teachers i will miss the best teacher to have in 6th grade is Ms.Schecter but she wont be there anymore after having her baby but if you had her you know what i mean. 7th grade Ms.E & 8th grade Ms.Orlando/Ms. Gordon. Thats my point a view hope you had an amazing time here <3

I am in 6th grade and I LOVE THIS SCHOOL! It has really nice teachers, no uniforms, great elective courses, and not a lot of homework(like TCMS). It does have some bullies but you can keep away from them. I have learned a lot this year!

I really did not like this school. Indeed, i only did like it for my friends from my previous elementary school. Too much bullying. One kid in my old p.e class was a big bully. He hit my friend with a golden chain, and made him bleed. i told the p.e teacher. You know what happened? NOTHING! The bully came the next day. I have also seen him hit my friends. Classes are too large, teachers and administrators just DONT CARE! Its ridiculous. i came here in 6th grade, but now i am in 7th grade, and a former student at TCMS (A good school.) Please send your kids there if you REALLY want them to have the best education possible. Thanks.

The classes here at Benito are large, and not all the teachers are teaching. There are no elective classes, and the Outstanding band program is dwindiling along with the other electives. Although the change in principles was good, The administration lacks involvement, and seemingly could care less about the student body. Im glad to be out of this dump of a school!

This is an average school. If you want the best for your child you should'nt send you child here. It isnt the worst depending upon what team you are placed in. I went to this school in 6th grade. My parents were dissapointed with my fcat scores so they moved me to another school. the location of this school does make it seem very good. But the discpline, studies, and teachers are not good at all. The teachers do not spend to much time on indivdual students.

Big dissapointment! The school location makes you believe that this is a great school. There is no discipline, and the staff answer is 'there is nothing we can do about it'. The principal is not active enough and there are too many bullies and thieves. I have spend a lot of many replacing my son's school items, even his gym clothes, if you can beleive it.

i am an 8th grader at bms and ive been going there since 6th grade. the school could use some improving, and some cleaning up. Especially the student bathrooms. i also think the whole locker deal is ridiculous. it is so hard to get to your locker when there are two people on top of you, three people to your right, and your left. it is nearly impossible. also the gym locker rooms could use some major cleaning up. the lockers should be bigger, and not so close together, so we could actually get to them without getting books and school supplies dropped on my head.

Benito is an excellent school. It has great teachers, great leadership, and a fantastic music program. I would recommend putting your student in this school because if you want your son to go to a great high school this would be it.

I had two students attending and we decided to move them to a better environment academically and with more extracurricular activities. We were incredibly disappointed since we moved here from out of state and chose our neighborhood based on school ratings. Do not be fooled into thinking Benito is a good school because it received an 'A' rating. The classes are positively too large, the teachers seem completely overwhelmed, and I did not feel they had the time or the resources to adequately challenge my kids. There is also a a great deal of variance between the teams. I am just grateful that I was involved enough to see some of the problems early enough to move my children before they themselves had any problems.

The level of parental involvment is high. The administrative staff is very aware of the students in the school. There doesn't seem to be enough emphesis on homework. Bullying is prevelant, but is dealt with quickly.

Our family has transferred here from NY. I think the school needs fresh ideas. First off, there are not enough opportunities for after school activiites, fund raises, etc. All of which would get more parents involved up at school. I have a child in the six grade. If parents are involved on a day to day bases more parents would know whats going on up at the school. For example, school montering, cafeteria, teachers projects it could enable other parents to volunteer and know how their children are doing and help run a better school. Just my opinion..Thanks for the opportunity...

The quality of academic programs is excellent at this school, however, the level of parent involvement (as it pertains to the students) is next to none. Most of the children are undisciplined. Alot of the children are bused from other neighborhoods which creates a negative atmosphere for those nearby neighborhood children.

Great school with outstanding teachers. Friendly office staff and amazing teachers. Average home-school communication, but understandable for such a big school.

Benito has a new principal which will be a big improvement. There are way too many students for the staff to be effective. Very little discipline in teh school. Caring teachers.

Benito Middle School serves many of New Tampa's elite neighborhoods but that does not mean that your child will receive an elite education. My daughter went to Benito for both 6th and 7th grades. The school does not provide enough extracurricular activities like chorus, football, and cheerleading. Parent involvement is very minimal to say the least. Due to school choice many students that attend Benito don't even live near the school. Because of this, maintaining a safe and secure environment is somewhat difficult. The behavior of many students should not be tolerated but the kids get away with it. The teachers are not teaching, they are parole officers. Because of where Benito is located, people get a false sense of security. Benito may be an 'A' school based on the FCAT but in my opinion, Benito doesn't deserve the grade.
