I am very pro-homeschool, but circumstances dictate that I put my son in a government run school anyway. I was horrified the first day he walked through those doors, certain my wonderful son would change horribly, but he didn't! This school, if I HAVE to put my son in a public school, is the one I'd choose. The teachers are great, the administration is great and I have few complaints at all. What a relief to know that even though he is in a public school, in THIS public school, he is OKAY. Thank you, Astronaut, for taking such good care of my son, when I can't do it myself! :o)
I graduated here best school ever! GREAT sports, academics, and social groups. Great interactive programs with the kids. 5 star school. 'A' school.
This a great school with a very exellent sports program.
Astronaut is a great school. We all work hard to get to certain places in life and thats all we need to do. The teachers here try their best and thats all you can ask for. There are a few discipline problems here and there but HEY what school doesn't? Point is, you can't rate schools depending on the people to be perfect. Everyone has a role to play here. We try our best, and if it isn't good enough for you. I'm sorry.
This is your typical small town high school. If the staff/administration don't know the student's parents and/or you're not an athlete listed in the papers, you don't rate. Some great teachers, some just embarrass the student in class if you try to talk to them about problems.
This is a horrbile school. The dress code is so strict. The lunch selection is horrible..
The quality of academics is hard to determine- the school is currently in a shifting point towards academies. Some bad things can be seen though for the 06-07 school year that are bad, such as the reduction of AP classes (No AP science classes.) Music is completely underminded by sports, but a music theory class is on the way. Mostly sports are offered to a greater extent then one would expect. The parent involvement level, from what I have seen, is very high. There are volunteers that work studnent services everyday and mostly as a whole, are very polite, pleasant, and nice to any one needing assistance.
Academics were top notch, due to the qua;ity of specific teachers, particularly Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Rendina, Mrs. DeVoss and Mrs. Perry. More AP offerings would be better, but those offered were excellent prep. My children were well prepared for college, both academically and athletically. Sports programs outstanding with year-in year-out success in many boys and girls programs. Band also very strong. Not sure how this is continuing under new principal.
Good teachers and above average academics.
We are completely disappointed with Astronaut High School. If you are not in the top 20 of your class, the staff and counselors are simply not interested in you. As a parent, I can tell you that on a recent visit the counselor with whom I was speaking to didn't stop stuffing envelopes the entire time I was speaking to her. What a shame! We 'little' people just don't count at this school.
