This school is fantastic! There is a reason it received a 9 for its rating. It is like a college campus! The guidance department has been very helpful with my child. The school will address any problem and follow up. All in all... GREAT SCHOOL!!!! Most of the children LOVE going to this school. They have an excellent music department, great academics, and a wonderful environment. I give this school a 10! Now, I have read other reviews about people not living here their whole life and being excluded by other students. This is really not the case. Some of the students are very clicky, but my child has made plenty of friends since they have been there.
Great music and sports programs.
I was a student at Venice high school for five years so I learned the in and out of the school. Who to avoid and who to go for to for help. I grew stronger because of what I went through at Venice high school.
Venice High School is amazing! I'm in my Sophomore year and I've been there since 9th Grade. There's so many clubs to choose from, the classes are great, and most of the teachers are really nice people. I feel so confident walking around in Venice High, and proud that it's my school. People generally respect others and there's fighting at a minimum.
I must agree with the student who is unhappy with the guidance department and it's lack of organization and follow-thru. My child says they are grumpy and dismissive whenever he goes there for either a problem or direction. They shoo him away, telling him 'they'll call him down' but as of yet, it has not happened. He has been happy with most of his teachers however, finds them interesting and 'not boring'. As mentioned previously, if you have not lived here your whole life the other students pretty much leave you to yourself, not welcoming and very judgmental. He has tried to blend in, make friends, join sports but is basically ignored because he's 'new'. Venice High could be a great campus but it lacks that extra support that some students need. And if you don't excel or make a name for yourself in some sport, well...you're on your own.
This school is great if you're into the physically academic aspect, although not much effort for the students not involved in a sport. I feel many teachers need to either be monitored more often or take extra curriculum courses to freshen up their knowledge, many seem very uninterested. Most students are not friendly around there, and that may be because of the small town feel. Most students only confine themselves to their own kind and very unwelcoming. The guidance department is always unorganized the counselors are very unhelpful and impatient. Not to mention the principal I've seen her around campus maybe 3 times in the 4 years and is unaware on how to formally greet a student, very unapproachable. However, 3/60 Teachers should be recognized for their hard work, dedication and compassion for the students well being and further success.
I am reading the ratings and the comments about the guidance department. I must say that the guidance department has gone out of their way to help my student and other students that I know. I feel that it is a shame that a person would state that the department is less than par, perhaps you should give guidance a try yourself and you will find great counselors. Please also note that some ratings are from years ago and they now have a new department with lots of smiling faces.
I am a parent of two kids who graduated from VHS, and brother to 3 siblings who are also graduates and can attest to the long term commitment to excellece in academics, athletics and activities to promote the inclusion of all students. As the only high school in town, VHS recieves unparalled support from the community both financially and spiritually. The school will be completely rebuilt by 2010 on the same campus as mandated by the public to keep the school as the geographic focal point of the city. If you are a parent considering this school, know that we have won state championships in Football Baseball and Volleball (twice) and have more girls athletic teams than any other school in the area. Couple this with with Award wining music and theater programs and A-Rated academics, you could not make a better choice.
All the teachers are fantastic. They help me with my problems in life and with my school work so I can have a great future. Although, the Guidance Dept. is always busy and I'm not being able to get help when I need it the most. I think that they should get more information out for 9th and 10th graders to participate in school and after school acticities. I would choose this school if you are confident in yourself and an easy-friend maker... Enjoy Venice High.
I just recently graduated from Venice High School and I believe the school to be of great quality. Their efforts to improve the student's environment shows that they are really trying to better the school and some of the staff there are the most caring and experienced individuals that I have ever encountered. Not many schools provide you with counselors and administrators that actually remember your name and the conversations that you have had with them. They also have an amazing performing arts program that provides students with experiences besides from the typical academic structure of school, and they encourage students to follow their passions whether they be music, acting, painting, writing, or whatever. This is a great school and I am proud to say that I have graduated from Venice High School.
