Our daughter had an exceptional experience at IRCHS. This is a performing arts school and for students who work hard will be rewarded with lots of opportunities to excel. Administrators and faculty are hands on and dedicated to the success of the students. Charter students are required to be responsible as it is an open campus. A great school environment with no drugs, fights, bullying. School drug tests and has zero tolerance. Fantastic opportunity for any student with a focus in the Arts.

My daughter attends this school and it has changed her life. She has become a stronger student, a better communicator and an inquisitive learner. The performing arts program (VAPA) is amazing. If you don't go to the school, you should go and see one of their performances

As my child prepares to graduate from the Charter High School I feel that people need to know what an amazing school this is. Everyone that works at the school is there to benefit the students, and it doesn't matter if they are a teacher, counselor or even the security guard. They all look out for, listen too, and care for each other. The charter high school students have many different personality types, and yet every one gets along. It is truly a place for teenagers to grow and become more independent. The teachers really focus on your child, and their future. Great things are to come from students graduating from the Indian River Charter High School

My student was falsely accused of academic honesty at this school. When it became clear she was not cheating, no one offered an apology. If you attend this school, be certain to copy and save all homework assignments and doctor's notes to support absences because the teachers and administrators lose these items constantly.

Charter is an amazing school. In my opinion, the best in the county. It is the only school that, to my knowledge, offers dance, art, piano, jazz, orchestra, chorus, golf, and other art classes. Additionally, it is on the same campus as Indian River State College. Duel Enrollment is extremely common. IRCHS provides every duel enrolled student with free books for all their colleges classes (as well as high school classes) that would otherwise could hace cost hundreds each. Students DO get demerits if they have an unexcused absense to class. If students want a more challenging curriculum, I suggesst that they enroll in duel enrollment, AP, or Honors courses instead of complaining that the classes aren't difficult enough. The teachers are friendly, smart, and caring. The students are very talented and their is no shortage of personality. IRCHS is by far the best in the county.

I graduated from IRCHS in 2009 and the teachers are awesome. The teachers were very caring and helped students achieve thier very best. IRCHS offered a great learning environment and while there I was also able to do dual enrollment classes which is making college much easier since I completed all my general education classes! Great school!!!

Indian River Charter High School has a great many opportunities for a student. Being a junior at IRCHS, i have learned a lot from my teacher's excellent, hands-on labs and curriculum. Since Indian River Charter High School is a short distance away from Indian River State College, this provides an opportunity for students at IRCHS to earn a degree before graduating from our school. We may have a small amount of 600-700 students, but the learning opportunities are great.

Indian River Charter High School has excellent education standards, great campus, and the teachers create suburb, hands-on curriculum. The Science classes have many labs; for instance, we are mummifying fish in my Marine Science class for the Egypt Hands-on Museum coming up on soon in November. The Commercial Art/Web Design classes are creating their own topics off of the current time period that the entire school is following this year. This year, at IRCHS, we are doing from the beginning of time to 800 A.D. Many Projects in all of the classes are based around this era of time.

Our School is a place that offers variety of courses for students, an outstanding arts department, and excellent academic and physical ed courses. There is a big sunny campus with options for everyone to get to know one another, during classes and also during the many activities outside of curriculum schedules. The faculty & administration have been supportive and friendly, so it's a pleasure to be here.

As a parent, I feel like my child is at a caring school, not 'lost in the system' of a larger school. Teachers are personal and know their students, and that makes a world of difference during the transformative teenage years!

My daughter is a junior at IRCHS and loves it! She had heard wonderful things about it before she started 3 yrs ago and only wanted to apply there. We have been most pleased by her challenging courses (honors classes as well as regular), and dual enrollment at IRSC. The entire staff is caring and hard working. We find the principal and vice principal to be caring, wonderful at their jobs, good listeners, motivators and encouragers while also understanding. The policies are put in place for protection and betterment of the students. They raise the bar in the standards they present. I believe my daughter is very well prepared for college. There have been some students who at first cannot handle responsibility to get to class or do work and asked to leave, but the following year returned to be very productive students. Well worth the lesson learned. Kudos to IRCHS!

I have 5 children and 3 step-children. Our youngest 2 have been privileged to attend IRCHS. My husband and I would rather live in another city in Florida, but we have stayed here because of this school. There are many children who need the discipline of a 'regular' high school, but this school has worked so well for my girls. They are both exceptional students and have college scholarships. If the school did not work for your children, it is not the school's fault. The students who have parents who care and who work with the teachers and administration benefit from this type of education. When my youngest graduates in May, we will move...not before that time.

I attend IRCHS and it is byfar the best school i have ever seen or heard of. We are the top high school in the county, and our VAPA curriculum is known world wide for its excellence and persistancy. The teachers and facculty actually care unlike most schools, and you get a better education than in other schools. I would also like to point out that, yes, it is easy for the kids to skip class, but the teachers are well awareof it and it gets taken care of. Also, if the student skips, it is not the school's fault, it is the child's stupidity and arrogance. This school is amazing and i would never o to any other. ~The real Nicohle Kravarik

Let me start by saying that Miss. Adversa, Mr. Sternberg and Mr. Raymond are all very kind and wonderful people, as is the rest of the staff! I m in 10th grade at IRCHS and it is a great school! The teachers and administrators are always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support for academic or personal problems. Is this school hard? If you re not dedicated or mature, then yes. This school prepares you for college and the real world. Think about it, you take lunch breaks at work don t you? Then, why not at school? If you don t come back in time for work, you don t have a position at that establishment any longer. The same applies to our school. If you don t come back in time, you may not have a position in that class, or our school. This is truely the place to be! ~Alexandra/Lexi Evans

My son is a returning VAPA 10th grader. Any student would fit in. The teachers are very caring, and will go the extra mile to help. My son has learning disabilities and that is addressed as well with an iep and close contact with the teachers. If you want to have your son/daughter attend a great school that will graduate a productive citizen as well as a great confident student this is your school. The atmosphere at the school is unique. At any given time a basketball game or hackie sack game will be going on and as your student approaches the game he/she is invited to play. Everyone is accepted by everyone one big happy family. Parental involvement is counted on. Homebase is highly treasured by all students. Students relax between classes and are monitored with glass wall between classrooms with a teachers guidance at all times.

Academically average workload and content. Teachers unprofessional, off color jokes, inappropriate political agendas....seems like all kids Expected to be lazy, worthless...little support for motivated students. Authoritative figures accusatory, nasty. Absolute evidence that this school once attracted below average students. Therefore, the mindset of the faculty remains...not a place for respectable kids.

I'm not actually a parent, I'm a student of Indian River Charter High School and have been for 3 years now. I absolutely love my school. The teachers develop a very personal relationship with students. I know and trust almost every teacher I have. Our visual and performing arts is among the best in the entire state. It's a great school to send your child to.

My daughter has been there since her freshman year.It is important to know that a child must be self motivated. The faculty and administration devote themselves to the children. The classes are small and the teachers want them to succeed.Parents need to be involved and are encouraged to do so in may ways.It has a wonderful family feel and the kids aren't lost in the mass.As any newer school it has had some growing pains but always strive to do better. My daughter loves it there and works hard. The visual and performing arts dept are amazing. The school of golf is growing slowly but surely.Academically dual enrollment is offered and some kids really challenge themselves and work hard. The zero tolerance is strictly enforced. Great school if your child does not need to be held by the hand. They are taught how to be independent thinkers. The philosophy is very close to Dr. Maria Montessori's

MY CHILD IS IN HER FIRST YEAR AT IRCHS. SHE SEEMS VERY HAPPY WITH THE FREEDOM THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE THERE, AND LIKES THE WAY THAT THE SCHOOL EXPECTS THE STUDENTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR EDUCATION. AT THE OPEN HOUSE I VISITED ALL OF HER TEACHERS, AND WAS VERY FAVORABLE IMPRESSED WITH THE INTELLECT AND THE ATTITUDE OF EACH ONE OF THEM. THE CAMPUS HAS A 'HOMEY' FEEL TO IT, UNLIKE THE STERILE ATMOSHPERE OF CONVENTIONAL SCHOOLS. I LIKE THE 'HOMEBASE' CONCEPT. MY CHILD HAS VERY LITTLE HOMEWORK - I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S GOOD OR BAD. WE'LL SEE WHEN SHE GETS TO COLLEGE!

This school has gone down hill since Judi Jones left some years ago. The VAPA program is excellent if your child is interested in the arts but the standard program is mediocre. The best thing about the charter is the small class size and friendly environment. But the poor quality of the teaching and the lack of challenging classes has been disappointing.

This school is great for the student who likes to think outside the box and who likes freedom of individual expression. The teachers work with the kids one on one, keep in contact with the parents when the child is falling behind and really try to get to know the student on a personal level. I would recommend considering this school if your child wants to grow at his/her own rate and be able to be 'different' without the judgement from peers and teachers.

I went to the Charter high school my freshman year, and I had to leave because I wasn't getting a very good education and the school was not run very well. It was way too easy to skip classes, which the administration does not know if your supposed to be in a class or not because everyone has different schedules. I can also say that i learned absolutely nothing from that school, and in result when i switched schools i was way behind in my math class, as i didn't learn the skills that the regular high school classes were doing.

We took our daughter out of another ind. River school to send her here after many meetings and sessions about 'how great the curriculum was, how strict the dress code would be, accountability, opportunities, etc...Interviews, acceptance policies,'. All hot air! low and behold, they can't even keep track if she's in class or not. Not a stitch of homework or one quiz in four weeks. Her schedule has been changed four times by the school...Inconvenient. Now she has to be in school for nearly 10 hours due to transportation after schedule changes. No lunch and no transportation. Where do my tax dollars go? Teachers refuse to return phone calls...Nothing but a mini country club (these kids are not responsible enough at 14 and 15 years old for you to think you're a montessori type school...(Administrator quote) not even close! Home school it is now! I have not one nice word.
