This school is horrible. They do not make any arrangement to comply with Individual Edification Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities. They blame the students for their disabilities and refuse to comply with federal laws requiring compliance. The county administrators then back up school administrators and refuse to implement IEP. They use "overcrowding" as an excuse for failing to teach students. The "A" rating is sham.

I worked as a substitute teacher for 3 years and frequently worked at West Orange High School. Firstly, it is a brand new school, about 6 years old or so, beautiful and well designed. I found the school to be consistently well-run, with clear rules and consequences that obviously worked. Students got to class on time and did their work. Disruptions were rare. The feeling on the campuses (the ninth grade is at a separate campus around the corner, but they share sports facilities) was that of people who enjoyed talking to each other, but had work to do. Whether it was PE, foreign language, or history, students did their work simply because they knew the consequences of not doing so. Those are my observances as a sub. As a neighbor of the school, I enjoy the excitement provided by the sports teams. They have a fantastic sports program, and I like to follow the teams. I cannot speak to the issues of the day, such as bullying, etc. I only know that the school felt safe and I am not concerned about my children going there next year!

West Orange provides a good-quality education to West Orange-area students, and we have been pleased these last two years with the administration's interest in, and guidance department's attention to, our child's growth and achievement. We've received much better guidance and support from this school than we ever received from our college-prep private school. The band program is excellent, and staffed with highly capable individuals who care about the students. We are thrilled with our decision to move our child into the public school system, and are excited at the prospect of our younger child starting as a freshman in Fall 2011.

My daughters, a senior and a junior this year, love their school. There are many great teachers at this school and both my daughters are prouds to be Warriors. The leadership provided by Mr. Larsen has been the change that the school needed. Go Warriors!

Our senior at WOHS has thrived at this school! They have an outstanding AP program, a top rated choir, and wonderful sports programs. The Principal, Staff and Faculty truly care about the students success. My son has been accepted to a top-rated college with a scholarship and we know his success is due to the WOHS experience. It's a pleasure to call WOHS our high school and I can't wait for my two future Warriors to attend!

We have had children at West Orange for 6 years and another starting this fall. My husband and I appreciate the beautiful new building and the quality of teachers, especially in the AP classes. We are active volunteers and have seen first hand the commitment of the leaders and coaches in the fine arts and athletic departments. Our son is a Junior and is receiving requests from Ivy League schools. West Orange will prepare your child for the best colleges out there. Go Warriors!

I've had children at West Orange HS for 8 years and it just keeps getting better. The school quality and culture is generally a result of the leadership, and we have an excellent Principal, James Larsen. Dedication of the administrators, and most of the faculty and staff to help our kids to learn is apparent, and our new $85 million facility is great. Overall we have a nice group of students who want to learn and seem to enjoy being there.

West Orange is an incredible place to come to work each day. The leadership of the school is forward thinking, encouaging and inspiring all at the same time. This school bears all of the marks of a highly effective school. It only takes a few days here to see the impact of the culture and climate on our student population.

My daughter just started West Orange after spring break. I was exstremely impressed by the school, but especially the Guidance Councelor. She went out of her way to make sure my daughter had all the correct academic classes.

I have two daughters attending WOHS. They both love West Orange. The new building opened two years ago and the facility is wonderful. The staff and teachers are there because they care and the kids really get what they want out of the school.

I have had the pleasure of working for various levels of students in my career on my path to teach at West Orange. I find it a true pleasure to work with the many educators who truly bend over backwards for their students . Yes, there are many students that can disrupt the ongoing teaching but as many have mentioned it is not the school but from where the students come from. We are educators not babysitters or substitute parents. Many students come to school for reasons other than education but according to others that is the fault of the school obviously not the parents or their home life. We, as educators try to teach every student that enters our classroom, but in the end we are teachers...we can teach but it is up to the students to learn...West Orange has many outstanding students. I am proud to be a Warrior.

The School Grades are calculated by adding points earned from each of the performance criteria listed above.
