This school is the best school I've gone to. We are overcrowded, but on the plus side, it gives us an abundant of available courses, teachers, and opportunities.

This school is horrible. They do not make any arrangement to comply with Individual Edification Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities. They blame the students for their disabilities and refuse to comply with federal laws requiring compliance. The county administrators then back up school administrators and refuse to implement IEP. They use "overcrowding" as an excuse for failing to teach students. The "A" rating is sham.

I worked as a substitute teacher for 3 years and frequently worked at West Orange High School. Firstly, it is a brand new school, about 6 years old or so, beautiful and well designed. I found the school to be consistently well-run, with clear rules and consequences that obviously worked. Students got to class on time and did their work. Disruptions were rare. The feeling on the campuses (the ninth grade is at a separate campus around the corner, but they share sports facilities) was that of people who enjoyed talking to each other, but had work to do. Whether it was PE, foreign language, or history, students did their work simply because they knew the consequences of not doing so. Those are my observances as a sub. As a neighbor of the school, I enjoy the excitement provided by the sports teams. They have a fantastic sports program, and I like to follow the teams. I cannot speak to the issues of the day, such as bullying, etc. I only know that the school felt safe and I am not concerned about my children going there next year!

West Orange provides a good-quality education to West Orange-area students, and we have been pleased these last two years with the administration's interest in, and guidance department's attention to, our child's growth and achievement. We've received much better guidance and support from this school than we ever received from our college-prep private school. The band program is excellent, and staffed with highly capable individuals who care about the students. We are thrilled with our decision to move our child into the public school system, and are excited at the prospect of our younger child starting as a freshman in Fall 2011.

Our senior at WOHS has thrived at this school! They have an outstanding AP program, a top rated choir, and wonderful sports programs. The Principal, Staff and Faculty truly care about the students success. My son has been accepted to a top-rated college with a scholarship and we know his success is due to the WOHS experience. It's a pleasure to call WOHS our high school and I can't wait for my two future Warriors to attend!

We have had children at West Orange for 6 years and another starting this fall. My husband and I appreciate the beautiful new building and the quality of teachers, especially in the AP classes. We are active volunteers and have seen first hand the commitment of the leaders and coaches in the fine arts and athletic departments. Our son is a Junior and is receiving requests from Ivy League schools. West Orange will prepare your child for the best colleges out there. Go Warriors!

I've had children at West Orange HS for 8 years and it just keeps getting better. The school quality and culture is generally a result of the leadership, and we have an excellent Principal, James Larsen. Dedication of the administrators, and most of the faculty and staff to help our kids to learn is apparent, and our new $85 million facility is great. Overall we have a nice group of students who want to learn and seem to enjoy being there.

West Orange is an incredible place to come to work each day. The leadership of the school is forward thinking, encouaging and inspiring all at the same time. I have had the pleasure of working for various levels of students in my career on my path to teach at West Orange. I find it a true pleasure to work with the many educators who truly bend over backwards for their students . Yes, there are many students that can disrupt the ongoing teaching but as many have mentioned it is not the school but from where the students come from. We are educators not babysitters or substitute parents. Many students come to school for reasons other than education but according to others that is the fault of the school obviously not the parents or their home life. We, as educators try to teach every student that enters our classroom, but in the end we are teachers...we can teach but it is up to the students to learn...West Orange has many outstanding students. I am proud to be a Warrior.

Most of the kids are caring and actually want to help out the school become better. We have such great clubs and our band is no different. The school's teams know what they're doing. At WOHS we have unity, respect, and teamwork all around. I'm so proud to be a West Orange Worrior! Keep up the great work Worriors!

I am a freshmen here at WOHS and I absolutley loved it. The first week of school went smoothly and i made alot of new friends in the drama department and the upperclassmen are nice and respectful to the underclassmen and everyone including the adminstration, teachers, staff and students are very nice and well rounded people. the academics are excellent with Regulars, Honors, Pre-AP and AP classes to challenge students to become life long learners and become academilcaly ready for future AP classes in High School or Univeristy. I always thought this school was bad. But it is so awesome and I recommeded people from everywhere to attend classes here at West Orange High School, Go Warriors!

West Orange High School is not perfect, but no school is. Our leader, James Larsen, has the vision and ability to take this school and its students to great heights. In the past year he and his Admin. Team raised the school grade from a C to a B, which is no easy feat if you have any insight at all into the guidelines of Florida's state scoring system! Granted, there are probably some teachers that don't care as much as others, but think about where you work, live, and reside. There are people like this everywhere. Our public education system is no different. The big problem is the union system that they hide behind, that keeps them from being removed easily. In my opinion, as a very involved parent, you must teach your kids morals and discipline at home first so that the teachers can do their jobs.

WOHS is a travesty! The academics are a joke with standards that are so low that the teachers and administrators should all be summarily fired and banned from ever being involved in the education field for the rest of their lives. I've raised 6 kids and we have transferred a lot because of my work/career. Without a doubt, WOHS is the absolute worst HS I've ever encountered and this includes the Washington, DC public schools too! I wish we had a choice to send our children somewhere else - it is a travesty!

As a student at West Orange High, I have started to notice the slowly declining moral and ethical values that we should have had instiled in us from the beginning. So as parents, there is no need to blame the school. Your student can get their education regardless of the 'setbacks' that you claim we have. How is a teacher going to fork education down your student's throat if they haven't learned the value of this education from their 'parents'. So as you sit here and write your complaints, you should be attending to your child, so that they dont have to sit and be where you are complaing and basing their life problems on a school that has done the best they can. It is not the school, its the cycle of parents feeding their child with materialistic ideals.

West Orange is outstanding - the faculty is caring, the administration works toward continuous improvement, and the principal is not afraid to make unpopular decisions when he believes it is in the school's best interest. In addition, many parents are engaged in creating the most positive learning experience possible for their children. Most teachers are genuinely interested in ensuring that struggling students are given the tools to succeed and that exceptional students have the means to excel. The extracurricular activities are first rate - Student Council, Band, Chorus, and Drama are all nationally recognized programs. No school is perfect, but West Orange has been a wonderful experience for my son. As with anything, life is best if you learn to bloom where you're planted, and West Orange provides rich soil.

WOHS is an outstanding school. My first child graduated in 04 and my second child will graduate in 08. We have seen 8 years of genuine progress! Yes the extracurricular activities are exemplary (Chorus, Band, Drama, Baseball, Basketball, etc.) but the real progress is that of the students and administration. Parent involvement is high in the clubs but as with any high school there is room for improvement. The teachers want their students to learn and will work with them to achieve their goals- They also do not put up with laziness from the students. The PTSA works hard and has won several awards over the last two years. Be an involved parent- that is the secret!

As I reflect on my days at West Orange, what I remember most was my last year we got a new principal who was obsessed with everyone singing the Alma Mater. We were a D school, our scores were the pits, but he felt a burning desire to instill the alma mater in everyone. I was never so glad to leave any place as I was that school.

Statistically, West Orange is not very promising, but if you really look into the school, it is excellent! Significant fights do not occur in the school, and it is safe compared to others in the area. The fine arts programs are awesome. Chorus won a world competition in Italy in 2006, and Drama has won several state competitions over successive years. The football team is very competitive, but the soccer team is lacking in ability. There are many other sports, too, including Lacrosse, Bowling, Golf, and Water Polo. There are great accelerated programs, including AP courses in all core subjects. The school itself is a dump, but a brand new building is in the works, and it will be ready by the 2008-2009 school year. The football field just got artificial turf installed, and it is the 3rd school in the state to have it. WO is very promising for improvement.

West Orange provides the students with all sorts of opportunities to commit to various activities of interest within the school. Academics are very much at the heart of the matter as it seems more and more children are passing most standardized tests. The faculty and staff also provide the students with the security of a safe learning environment as fights are rare to see escalate.

I'm an average student that highly enjoys WOHS. Let's do a run through... Fine arts: AWESOME. Chorus and band are phenomenal. Band, Piano, Chorus, Piano, Art, Art History, and Music Theory all available. All Wonderful. Sports: this year, we beat three of our rivaling schools in football games. We have Soccer, Football, Cross Country, Tennis, Baseball, Softball, etc. We have a very involved PTSA. They're great, Heidi[president] does a great job. One of the BEST things about WO, is our principal, Dr. Dan Buckman. He has started a program called 'roundtables' where one wednesday of every month, he has a meeting to inform students whats going on, and answer questions, and talk with students, to hear complaints. Students report it to their classes. It is a great school, overall. It has everything to suit a parents AND a student's needs. [A new school will be built by 2008] Go Warriors!

You asked and this is my opinion. Principal leadership -- new principal has not shown real leadership in dealing with difficult situations. Teacher Quality -- 1/2 of teachers are average - good -- however, 1/2 are lazy and do not care if the teens learn or not. Guidance counseling is really off-base. Need a new structure and new counselors. Safety and Discipline -- Need to take a good, long look at the baseball program. Lots of things going on there that are being swept under the table. Coaches use vulgar language, chew tobacco, encourage bullying and other radical behavior. Very immature coaches! Overall: I would go to another school. As a final note, when Armbruster left, he also took all of the good teachers/staff with him -- bankrupting WO. Why was this allowed? I could not, in good conscience, advise anyone to go to West Orange High School.

I honestly think West Orange High School is the worst school any of my five kids have ever attended , the children are treated as statistics instead of human beings , their work is totally boring whereas they could take the kids on educational trips to make it all more interesting. They get punished for the silliest things instead of being encouraged ,it has a low county rating , why is the principal not interested in improving this school ,or at least getting it up to the standard of Olympia High. Whenever I go there the school looks dingy and dirty. A VERY concerned parent.

As a former student of West Orange high School, class of 86, I absolutely love West Orange and iam proud that my daughter will be graduating in the class of 2006 from West Orange. Some teachers could be a little more helpful with students struggling. Words con not explain how WONDERFUL the choral dept. at West Orange is....Redding is a true gift from GOD! His influence with his children is breath taking, if anyone has not witnessed the musical program, you are truly missing out! Parental involvement is not quite what it could be, not everyone can participate with schools as much as others. GO BIG BLUE!

The principal is very involved in most activities and knows a lot of his students by name, amazing with almost 4000 students! I graduated from West Orange in 2002 and went on to the University of Miami with scholarships. I'd like to mention Dr. Irene Earls and Marco Newland as two of the best instructors I've had in my life. Both collectively taught me everything I've needed to employ as a college student. Dr. Earls molded my writing skills to a level higher than my sophomore peers' levels, and Mr. Newland has always remained a friend. The teachers at West Orange genuinely care about their students.

West Orange has many things going for them and the community. I went to West Orange and then chose to attend a smaller college. It is similar to the size of West Orange with the college being obviously a little bit larger student wise. Either way West Orange can stand next to this very well respected college anyday. The after school programs at West Orange are always top notch whether it be in sports or fine arts. The teachers at West Orange have a passion for their students and well being of the students as a whole. And this passion is given to them from the leader the guy at the top Mr. Armbruster. I was also there for another great principal Mr. Pressier and he just helped in teaching and molding the great Principal Armbruster.

As a 2002 graduate of West Orange High School I must say my Warrior Experience was truly rewarding. After being offered several full scholarships to universities across the nation I chose to attend a four-year university in Virginia. I must say that I have felt very well prepared for the coursework and instructors at the institution. Furthermore, I attribute all of my preparation to the dedication of Mr. Mike Armbruster and his faculty at West Orange High School. Therefore, to those who wish to belittle my alma mater I say you must make your experience worthwhile by getting invloved and making whatever changes you deem necessary yourself.
