Furtah Preparatory School & Montessori School 5

We have been at Furtah for three years. Love the personal relationships and attention my child receives. Every teacher and staff member knows each child and family. The "boutiqueness" of this school is its charm. Very proud to be a part of FPS!

We have two kids that attend Furtah Prep. We moved to FPS from public school seven years ago and have never regretted that decision! Our family consists of several children spanning a wide age range, and between all of them we have homeschooled, as well as attended public and private school. The decision to move to FPS was from public school, where we found the large classroom sizes and push-test-scores-at-all-cost fostered an environment that could not guard our children's hearts. We particularly appreciate Mr. Furtah's optimism, as well as his willingness to cut through some of the bureaucracy we found to be the hallmark of the public school system. Additionally, we have found it refreshing to be part of a school that although not Christian per se, it does not exclude Christianity. We plan to stay at Furtah until both of our students complete their senior year.

This school does not handle discipline problems well. Some students that say they were expelled from the public school now go here.

Come to Furtah and enter a world where every staff member that your child may pass in the hall knows his name. Have an issue at school? You can probably meet with the headmaster and any other member of the staff by the end of the day. Need to speak to your child immediatley (without question as to why)? Just call...your child will be call to the phone while you wait. Any special information you feel your teachers should know? This school will schedule a meeting for you with their entire High School staff (or middle depending on child grade) including PE, art and any other staff members you feel should attend...I have experienced all this. Indeed, this is a small school and has financial challenges. The teachers are humans, so they, like us, are not perfect. But, they do respect the children and the parents. They most certainly want the best education for their students and do their best with the resources available to a small school. Furtah is a positive, happy place with a head master that can't wait to get to work every morning. Is it perfect? Are the buildings all shiny and new? Am I happy I found this school for my family? Very, very much so.

Furtah has changed over the past few years. They do not have the resources they need to be a great school. Their technology is behind and text books are shared among students. Teachers may be teaching one subject one day and a month or so later, when a teacher leaves, are teaching several subjects. As far as discipline goes, it changes depending on the child and whether or not he/she is in sports. They do have a student hand book but I have seen and heard many cases of this happening. Because of the low student size, they were not able to have a soccer team, drama and many other extra activities. I believe there is much more gossip among the teachers regarding the students than the students themselves. My child attended the school for 4 years and during the first 3 years, it was a great school and run like a school. Many promises have been made for a new school, new devices and many other things and I just did not see any of that happening. Time for a change for my child to have hope and feel supported no matter what.

My daughter attended Furtah for her 4th & 5th grade years. Prior to this she was in public school. She had alot of anxiety and learning issues. We tried to address them in many ways including pull-out classes and parapro assistance. She would receive failing grades on tests but yet receive 'C's on her report card. I knew her needs weren't being met. She hated going to school and was depressed. Then we found Furtah! The teachers worked with her abilities and found ways to encourage her confidence. Unfortunately, we are moving out of state and we are very sad to have to leave. I found concrete evidence that I made the right decision making the financial sacrifice sending her to a private school. We had the teachers complete occupational therapy questionnaires so that an evaluation could be done to show the new school. The occupational therapist was very pleased inthe

My oldest son (11) has been a student at FPS since kindergarten, and my youngest son (4) just started pre-K at the Furtah Montessori School. I cannot say enough positive things about the school...they have been so supportive of my kids and have given them a wonderful education. The environment is very much like a family. Mr. Furtah is very visible and you can tell that this school is his 'child' - he wants the best for all of his students. The classes are small and the educators are caring and communicative. So far as tuition, it is more affordable than most of the other private schools in the Metro area, and they have several payment options available - this school is not for the 'super-rich', which is great for families who want a quality education but don't make the income of a CEO.

Furtah has changed during the 2007-2008 year. The current 2008-2009 year, the school has changed from a school that communicates to a non-communicating school. The Middle School lacks the technology, extracurricular activities, parent involvement, and creative education. Schedules for the Middle School children changed 2 1/2 day structure with study hall. Study hall is just students with out structure. The school has excellent teachers and an excellent principle, but the curriculum administration and the headmaster lost the focus on the academic needs of the students in middle grades. The FPTA does not advocate for the students for the best education, they just advocate for Fundraisers.

I have been truly amazed at the progress my daughter has made since attending Furtah. She is in the Montessori program and is a different child. She has more confidence in herself then I have ever seen. The entire staff there is wonderful and the knowledge of the staff is is far greater than anything you would ever get out of public school. We did public school for many years and my daughter still struggled. One year at Furtah and she has surpassed any expectations I have ever imagined. This school is a blessing and the fact that they do not only worry about the 'educational' aspect, they educate the whole student. They inlcude manners, morals and values in their everday lessons. I plan on my daughter staying there throughout high school simply because I am so impressed. I am truly grateful!!
