Mill Springs Academy

This school has saved my son! My child has ADD and struggled in other private and public schools, despite the fact that he is extremely bright. He had no friends that he connected with personally and really feared school. At Mill Springs he has loads of friends and sleep overs and playdates. He has attended Mill Springs for 2 years and his academic acheivment is outstanding. He is now above grade level and it is all thanks to the fantastic teachers. We no longer have any work to do with him at home and he loves going to school. They have given him not just the best education, but a childhood with friends and a world in which he belongs. We sacrifice a lot for him to attend this school and we are so thankful to have this opportunity!

I have two children at Mill Springs. They are very different in their styles of learning. The school serves both and they are so happy. I have been reading older posts indicating that perhaps the schools curriculum doesn't support technology. we have not found this to be true. Both of our children impress daily with their knowledge regarding technology. Technology is integrated into the school day and spans the academic platform. Our children are supported and encouraged and taught in a way that they understand. There is a constant effort among all staff to assure that they are on track, not only academically, but socially. Since we have been a member of the MSA community our children have become advocates for themselves and for what they need to support their learning. They are confident and in control of their academic success. Mill Springs teaches life skills. We couldn't be more pleased.

I can't even begin to describe what this school has done for my daughter. After being beaten down in a snobby private school because she did not fit the neurotypical mold, thank God we found this school. The reason Mill Springs is successful is that the caring, respect and concern for our children starts at the top and if a teacher can't learn to teach the way a child learns, they don't belong at this school. Every teacher my child has had during her 3 years at this school has taught her not only the academic subject they were required to teach, but also how to be the very best person she can be. She has learned acceptance of others, kindness and consideration, and gained self confidence in realizing that she may learn differently - but she is definitely capable of reaching for the stars. Definitely visit this school!

The social program is wonderful, but in grades 1-6 the academics are weak (especially in the lower school (grades 1-4) and communication is poor. This improves in the pre-upper school (grades 7-8). They claim to be a laptop school, but little emphasis is placed on teaching technology or even on teaching the students how to use the required laptops. It is a good school for kids with ADHD and my child has been very happy there.

This school does a good job of helping children socially and gives kids a opportunity to participate in athletics but besides that I feel like it is majority lacking academically. I attended this school for 3 years and by the end of the third year I was bored. Just because a student has ADD does not mean they need easier classes

My son has been very happy at the school. the social program/levels system is wonderful. They teach the kids to be responsible and accountable for their choices. My only real complaint, is that for a laptop school, they don't put enough emphasis on teaching technology. Each child grades 4th & up are required to purchase a laptop through the school, but they don't really teach the kids how to use them. Technology is taught in 4th grade, but that's it. There are no classes for kids who enter the school after the 4th grade.

A very good alternative to public schools for students that do not thrive in larger forums. The average class size of <10 enables teachers to keep the kids on task more than other schools. My son has been happy here (relatively - we are still talking teenagers) after being miserable in public schools previously. Good parts are the small classes and large variety of activities for such a small school. Easy to be involved without being a superstar. Teachers are overall good, there are few that just do not get the system - they are dealing with ADD/other issues students - but these are counteracted by a large percentage that really are very caring about the kids. I have questioned whether they are demanding enough academically, but my son says he is learning more here than elsewhere. Facilities are good and improving, worth a visit if you are considering the school.

What has impresses me most about Mill Springs is their levels system. The levels system gives my son achieveable goals and clear guidelines under which he can learn and mature socially. My family uses the 'student generated' feedback that is part of the levels system in our weekly family meetings where we go over personal progress and issues. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the atmosphere they foster at the Academy. I have a productive, maturing, and most importantly, happy child, due in large part to his attendance at Mill Springs Academy.

I am a former student and have nothing but good things to say about this school. I think that because of the Staff of Mill Springs I had a successful education. I had/have ADD and this facility helped me have that successful education. Thank you to all of them.

Mill Springs Academy provides an outstanding education for its students. They have a genuine concern for each student and help students reach their maximum potential by providing training, resources and an outstanding staff for each students individual needs. We are so thankful for such a wonderful school. The education my son received was well worth the money, what a great investment in your child's future!

I have two children there and it is wonderful. They get all the help they need both during school and can stay after. It is well worth the money. The head master is involved in every thing at school. He knows all the students and parents. The staff is well trained. All children should do well. They have very little displine problems becouse they have alot of contact with the parents.

After 3 months at this school our daughter was happier, and has a much higher self esteem. She tries harder, sets goals, and is learning what her individual strenghts are. I recommend this school highly for kids who are struggling in larger classroom settings.
