As most people in the community know, the education isn't the best, but it is a lot better than the surrounding schools *cough* *cough* Southland Academy. As long as your child is in the honors program and you have taken the time to instill the morals all children need, he/she will do fine. It offers many more options of success ( A.P. classes, sports, clubs) compared to surrounding schools. It's only real competition within 20 miles is Schley County. Schley County has a great basic class schedule (Chemistry, English I, II, III, Math I, II, III, etc), but they lack in the supposed honors/A.P. classes. As a student from these two schools I am impartial to Sumter and Schley because they both have their positives and negatives. Sumter overall has an OK basic curriculum while, in my opinion, the honors/A.P. classes are outstanding. The drug problems aren't that big, it is like every schools. If you kid doesn't do bad things before moving to this school, he will continue to be a good kid. I remember when I transferred from Schley to Sumter and heard all of the hype of how bad it was, but, in reality, it is not bad whatsoever. It all depends on the morals and ideals of your child.
