Academics at North Springs is top notch, but don't expect much from administration if there is an issue with one of your children. They seem to be a bit dismissive and disconnected. There seems to be better schools in North Fulton, if you have a choice move up to Alpharetta.
I would definetly say that North Springs High School has been a great benefit for the learning of my daughter. She is taking many honors classes and is being taught side by side with the teachers. All of the students are very nice, and the campus is a safe and clean enviorment!
The environment at NSHS is good and safe. The curriculum is diverse, though block scheduling is ending. The instruction is sometimes excellent, sometimes disinterested and CYA inspired. It is unclear why GHSGT rates for Math and Science are high, but low on EOCT. My child struggled to meet the classroom requirements in those two areas, but his EOCT scores were excellent. If you have a child with special needs (my older child is bipolar), don't go there. Both my kids are gifted visual artists, but not in Art Magnet. The PTSA collects dues, politically insular, does not reach out to parents; the leadership homogenous. The principal is somewhat new to school, great personality, sharp leader, progressive minded, tough exterior, but magnanimous spirit. The school is nice, though located in a cultureless, incorporated city.
As someone who transferred from a small high school, North Springs was quite an adjustment. But after many months of attendance, I rather enjoy it. The curriculum taught is top-notch (even if there are a few poor teachers, but this is to be expected) and the teachers are friendly and care about the students. However, there are a few problems. For one, discipline seems to be selectivley enforced. Some teachers set up strict guidelines, but many times the faculty has dropped the ball with kids roaming the halls during class time and disrespecting peers and teachers. Also, the administration seemingly does not care about extracurricular activity outside of a few major programs and athletics. Lack of funding causes a few clubs to dissolve. Often times events will go by unannounced. Aside from these issues, if you are looking for a school with an array of quality classes, North Springs is your school.
November 1,2004 : My daughter is a senior. From the first day of school I've been impressed with North Springs. The school is clean, the Teachers are Great!!! If you need help with your classes they will come in early and tutor you and also stay afterschool. Dr.Vergueson is a Great Leader if you have a problem she will try her best to get to the source .She's fair and she handles problems in a confidential manner. I Salute You North Springs for being A Great School.
North Springs is an academically excellent school. I have two students who are currently attending. The teachers work with the students not only in the class but also outside of the class sponsoring numerous clubs and helping students find meaningful internships and mentor. The performing arts magnet performs exceptional shows. Numerous art students have thier artwork exhibited in places of prominance outside the school. The Math/Science Students have won numerous awards at national levels. The breadth of sports, clubs and afterschool activities is truly impressive. The students are very involved in all aspects of the school. The students have a great community services record. Many of the students were recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Awards. A really great school!
As a parent of a 9th grade student who had attended private school from 1st grade we are very impressed with North Springs High School. The curriculum is academically challenging, the opportunities both academically, sports and school clubs are immense. The student body is diverse representing many countries and the students are intelligent, well-mannered and welcoming. A great place for students to continue a life-long enjoyment of higher education.
