This is our 3rd year at High Point and we are so happy with our decision to attend this wonderful neighborhood school. The principal is fabulous and provides excellent support to the teachers, staff, families, students and the PTA. It is a very special place with enthusiastic teachers who care deeply about each student s success. The front desk seems to know every student and family by name and is always more than helpful with whatever anyone needs. The school is well equipped to challenge students of all different levels and to give each child the best education possible. The hallways are calm and quiet and the students are courteous, well behaved and happy to be at school. Our family loves the community feel of the school and our children continue to thrive in both their academics and social life at school.
We are 5 weeks into our 6th year at High Point and are once again thrilled with the experience our children our having. Both students are being pushed academically, adore their teachers, and are encouraged both personally and academically. We continue to love the diversity and are amazed with how well teachers are able to challenge and meet the needs of each student. From a parent's prospective, I was delighted by a conversation I had with a teacher who is new to our school this year. I helped set-up breakfast treats for the teachers yesterday morning and at least 5 teachers thanked us and said that we (parents/PTA) went above and beyond. The aforementioned new teacher summed it up when she said, "You know, I have only been here a short while but this is teamwork at its best. Parents, teachers, and administration all working for the best of kids." Wow! Needless to say, that conversation made my day and I certainly agree!
My 6 kids have been at High Point Elementary. It started with my now junior daughter who went to Pre-k there. My oldest actually worked for years at the front desk also helping parents and being a great resource for all. I still have a son left there as the other 4 have been through. I have found my kids engaged, challenged, pushed to their maximum capcity, and respected. The staff is willing to go the extra mile with each child as each has had their OWN areas of specialty. The school is also a WONDERFUL reflection of what our society in the US is today a multi cultural, multi speaking kaleidoscope of kids (and teachers). My kids are not only getting a great education but also great exposure to what is out there in the world. My husband and I both work full time in this environment and know first hand the need for this total package for our kids. Lastly, anyone who is NOT engaged with the many opportunities to volunteer is missing the biggest part of what education is, a partnership between the teacher, child and parent. It is NOT a babysitting place for our kids. Sadly the neighborhood homeowner parents are at times the smallest population of involved parties percentage wise.
I have had two children attend High Point and now have a grandchild attendint - and it continues to be a wonderful experience for all of us! She is thriving, has had and continues to have wonderful teachers, and looks forward to going to school each morning. The parents are wonderful - totally committed to the school and spend lots of time there helping in whatever capacity is needed. The school has a great sense of community - we are all very happy with this experience!
Five years ago, we pulled our girls out of private school and made the move to High Point. We couldn't be happier with the teachers, staff and curriculum. With classes focused on different levels of learning (ex: on level, advanced, accelerated), our kids receive very specialized education. A strong PTA with a group of very involved parents ensure that our kids are getting what they need. Principal Nash is phenomenal and knows every kid and every parent at that school. One of our daughters is now at Ridgeview Middle School adn I continually hear from teachers tehre that the kids at High Point are always the most prepared for middle school compared to the other elementary feeder schools.
This is our third year at High Point Elementary and we could not be more pleased. The teachers are fabulous and my 1st grader is now reading at a 4th grade level. I have two younger children in pre-k and I am amazed at how much they are learning! Lisa Nash is an incredible principal and has created a loving environment where kids are thriving. We love the school family and are amazed at how involved and invested the parents are in HPES. Overall, a wonderful school!
One of the BEST schools in 30342!!! We have been at High Point for 5 years and have loved every minute of it! I have 3 children there and we have had wonderful teachers every year. One Kindergarten teacher actually called me at lunch the first day of school just to let me know my daughter was doing fine! I was so worried about my "baby" being in a big school. What an amazing teacher! I could breathe the rest of the day. Each one of my children are different and have been given such personalized care. Lisa Nash and Carrie Pitchford have always done a great jo picking the teachers that will be best for my kids. Parent involvement is what you make it. There are about a million things to volunteer for and help out with. Every time I go to the school for anything I see at least 3 parents there helping out with something. All in all we are in LOVE with High Point! I wouldn't put my children anywhere else- even if it was given to me for free!
We could not ask for a better school experience for our child!!! Compared to our previous school experiences this year has been AWESOME so far!!! Our teachers, the administration and staff have gone out of their way to make us feel loved and welcome. I know my child has learned more since the beginning of the year than he did in his previous school. He loves to go to school, learning new things and feels a sense of pride in his accomplishments. What more can you ask for as a parent?
We have a first and third grader at High Point and every year has been nothing short of amazing for both of them. They get off the bus every day with big smiles and stories of their day. The teachers and staff are so friendly, helpful and caring and our strong PTA and parental involvement help make the school an all around wonderful place for my children. The principal, Lisa Nash, is outstanding. I am so grateful to have such an impressive neighborhood school.
This is our 5th year at High Point Elementary. We are extremely happy with our daughters experience. Thanks to the dedicated teachers and administration our daughter has prospered and grown each year. The teachers are very attentive to each student helping them progress academically and grow into kind young people. My daughter came home one day and thanked us for all we do for her. She had learned from the teachers to "fill peoples buckets" each day with something nice. High Point is a caring and effective learning institution. The school has a community of involved and supportive parents who are always eager to help each other. We are proud to be High Point Elementary Parents! Thank you Ms. Nash and your whole team for what you do each and every day for our children.
One of the worse schools in the 30342 area! Not education focused, lack of awareness and concern for others, not parent involved, "dumbed down" teaching, overly populated with spanish speaking students which funding supports the school and it shows! Rude staff, not worried about students being progressive learners. VERY POOR LEARNING SYSTEM! Removing my son from this school ASAP this year!
TAG is awesome! (I am a 4th grade TAG student and I have only been in TAG 1 year) . 5th grade TAG deserves a field trip! Lots of parents were mad that the school was asking students to pay $1.00 to wear a hat one day to help pay for 5th grade TAG's field trip to Tybee Island if they wanted to. They deserve it because TAG is NOT EASY! Most Tag students have to finish TAG work and do their classwork for that day, and most have been in TAG for 4 years. The 5th graders were also studiyng animals from that regions, so it's not uneducational. I don't care if you don't donate, but don't get so mad, because they deserve it.
First day at this school. Daughter begins first grade. Unbelieveable how organized this school is, and how friendly and helpful everybody is. My daughter's new teacher, Ms. Long is so picture perfect I almost cannot believe she is her teacher. Poised, intellegent...the perfect roll model I would want for my child to spend SO MUCH time with. I know it will be a great year. I am so thankful for this school!
In response to the posting about TAG students being treated differently than the rest of the population at High Point.... This is ridiculous...the request they are referring to was for children to pay $1 to wear a hat to school to help raise money for the 5th GRADE TAG TRIP TO TYBEE. EVERY child had the OPTION of participating. This type of fundraising is supported throughout all the schools in the cluster whether it be elementary schools, middle school or high school. Pay $1 to wear pink, pay $1 and you can wear jeans, but a bracelet for $1 and help support Heifer International... It is just a fun, OPTIONAL way for kids to raise money. I have been at High Point for over 9 year and I have 2 children in TAG and one that is not in TAG. I have NEVER felt that they are treated differently in any way. Please educate yourself entirely before slamming a school in a public forum.
Is a great school, with hardworking teachers and staff. This school provides quality education to all students, and students with English as a first language score very high on state tests. Be cautious when comparing schools -english as a first language and english as a second language students test scores are often lumped together in one score. Our family comes from a very highly educated background with great expecations from our school, and this school may not be the most beautiful, or newest, but it is certainly one of the best!
Here's another example of how the highpoint TAG students are supported and held in higher regard than the other students in the school. This week's school newsletter posted a request for donations from all students to fund a field trip exclusively for the TAG students to Tybee (Island?). Highpoint has a large portion of low income minority families while TAG is disproportionally white and middle class. It seems unconscionable that the school would ask all these families for money to fund this field trip for so few. Once again, TAG students are lavished in attention, resources, and praise while the vast majority of students are left to share the few resources and in some cases untalented teachers.
High Point meets the needs of all their students. Interesting to read below regarding the "non-TAG" experience. My child is an "on-level" student. I've never felt that his needs weren't being met in the past 3 years. Quite the contrary. When he started to slip out of the "above-average" reading group his teacher worked with him and I to catch him up. She understood that moving him down would affect his confidence and perhaps start a spiral downward. By the way, she's the NORM not the exception when it comes to teachers at HP. Like every school, what you get out of a school is commensurate to what you, as a parent put in. I'm in the school a lot and my children are thriving in Pre-K and Second Grade.
High Point continues to provide our children with an excellent Elementary School experience! This is our 5th year at the school. The BEST teachers and staff you can ask for! I'm always getting such wonderful feedback from outside family and friends when I tell them what my kids are up to. It's so nice to have such a wonderful community of kind, caring families.
We love this school! It has exceeded our expectations in transferring from private to public school! The teachers, the principal and the curriculum have provided students a great opportunity to excell! The PTA is extremely supportive and friendly! I feel confident and fortunate that my children are in such a great place!
My daughter has been attending High Point since Kindergarten and is currently about to finish her 1st grade year. We LOVE the school!! You can not find better, more committed, teachers or administrative staff anywhere. They have always been open and available to discuss any concerns/suggestions that I have had. My daughter has always been taught to her own academic level and has been consistently challenged each year. In fact, the teachers have moved her into more advanced groups as the school year progressed when she showed she was ready. The school is clean, bright, safe and a happy place to visit. My daughter (and our family) could not be more pleased with the education she is receiving. Additionally, the parent involvement is amazing. The parents and community are all committed to making High Point the best school possible! So proud to be part of a wonderful neighborhood school.
