The lower school is great, and has been so for 30+ years. The middle school is also very strong. The upper school (9-12) has struggled since its inception several years ago. Overall school leadership is weak, and has difficulty attracting and retaining both students and teachers. We have been parents here for over 10 years, and the current head of school simply will not listen to feedback. Too much vision, no execution...
A once and hopefully future excellent school to send your kids. The current Dean of Upper School Students is extremely harmful to the upper school students in his classroom, his religion seminar, his office and in the hallways of Mount Vernon. This Dean disrespects and bullies students, parents and fellow teachers. The Headmaster is either ignorant that this behavior is occurring or, worse, is condoning it. If a correction can occur in this key role soon, this school can return to greatness.
I have been a student at Mount Vernon for 4 years now. At first, I was very impressed. The teachers seemed very smart and they really care. The lower school's guidance counselor was AMAZING! In seventh grade, my class moved across the street to the Glenn Campus. The Glenn Campus is a nice, new campus. I started to notice how greedy, ungrateful, and rude the other students are in 7th grade. Eighth grade is my last year at Mvps. I decided it was time to leave after many episodes of theft, bullying, and my life was threatened by another MVPS student. After many meetings with the faculty and staff of mvps, they have yet to lift a finger about it. We pay this expensive tuition, and receive no help from the staff whatsoever. We might as well have gone to Sandy Springs Middle.
Amazing teachers who show love and care for our children teaching them great things!
Mt. Vernon feels like family. The students and teachers are invested in one another's successes. The academics are excellent, the school spirit and pride are unparalleled in the Atlanta area and the kids and families are just plain nice...real people and real friendships. An amazing school for our children.
Mt. Vernon has the most wonderful and loving teachers. My son just loves going to school there. The preschool staff is amazing, and I have also been impressed by the faculty leadership and the organization of all school activities and programs.
We have two children at MVPS - our son, Alex, started here in kindergarten and is now a senior and our daughter, Carson, started in the 3 yr old program and is now in 1st grade. We have incredible teachers and a very dedicated staff who go out of their way to help our children reach their goals and make them feel special.
Our daughter enjoyes MVPS because of the great changes which has taken place this year. She is a leader and the new adminstration has allow her to walk in her gifts. This is just one of the reason. Her teachers are challenging and supportive.
Mount Vernon Presbyterian is a family community and we are proud that our daughter (Class of 2013) is now in her 10th year at this great school (K-9th). It is a very special place for our family and we look forward to future growth of the school.
Everyone is so friendly and is willing to work together. We all really care about the kids!
