Social emotional skills development At the heart of our Preschool curriculum is a deep understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for three- through five-year olds. We believe children learn best when engaged in hands-on, play-based activities that lead to a strong background in emergent academic skills. Capitalizing on children’s passions and natural curiosity, teachers use a project approach in curriculum planning.
Math skills development As a way to build math competence, students utilize two STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)-based spaces within the Preschool. iExplore, our outdoor classroom space, allows children to garden, build, explore, and investigate. Discovery, our indoor science lab, allows children to explore in-depth scientific concepts and questions in smaller groups – allowing for more individualized learning.

Parent involvement details The value that Mount Vernon parents bring to the School is immeasurable. Through the Mount Vernon Parents Association, Parent University, and the School's Experts in Residence Program families become deeply engaged in their child's educational experience. One of our many goals is to offer parents the opportunity to learn from each other and partner together as we tackle the many challenges our children face today.
Approach to addressing and preventing bullying Mount Vernon provides on-going learning opportunities through, but not limited to, chapel, Christian education courses, assemblies, workshops, and Parent University as a way to educate community members about MVPS core Christian values. Mount Vernon expects all students to refrain from becoming involved in any kind of bullying behavior. Through words or actions, bullying behavior is not tolerated. Any student participating in bullying behavior shall be subject to disciplinary action.
