It is a hit or miss with the teachers. Some of them are great, some don't share much about your child at all. The teacher turnover is extremely high. I have a feeling that they are under paid and over worked. The good ones seem to leave as quickly as they come.
This is not a school with high academic standards. It's just a glorified daycare. The director has in the past dismissed parents concerns as if we asked her a silly question. She seems to be getting better. My biggest problem with this "school" is that it does not meet the quality standards and expectations of patents willing to spend the extra money for it. The reports they send parents are auto generated and they just edit meals and naps a daily basis. It has no valuable information of your child's academic or developmental growth or if they are meeting any milestones. Children are not moved to different classrooms based on their overall development. It is as space becomes available and whatever is convenient for the director. I hope to see fair treatment of all children and teachers alike. Most teachers are very sweet but seem over worked and don't have good feedback of your child's progress in the class. It is not worth the money spent for the Goddard name. I hope to see positive changes in the near future based on honest reviews by parents.
The director and assistant director and do not make a sincere effort to really address parent concerns. They just give you an abrupt answer and often disregard your concerns as if it's not a big deal. The sincerity is just not there. It seems forced and as it they are just saying what we want to hear.
The owner needs to send anonymous surveys on a regular basis to ensure highest quality of care. He seems removed from running his business.
Despite the fact that my daughter had met all of her milestones for her classroom, Thonja refused to advance her because she "wasn't speaking enough." My daughter is bilingual and learning two languages at one time, which any pediatrician will tell you often results in a less communicative student. They never had problems understanding what she needed or wanted; she was just more shy than your average kid. But they weren't willing to support her academic success.
Jay used to be on site all day, and now comes and goes as he pleases, if he even shows up. So many parents have expressed their concerns with Goddard Sandy Springs with him and he chooses to do nothing. He rarely even knows what's going on because he's checked out. Additionally, the director is hostile and dismissive of parental concerns. She routinely berates parents, ignores their concerns, and lacks accountability.
The director, Thonja, has created an environment full of disrespect and hostility, and the kids (and parents) see it every day. It shows in interactions between the director and teachers, the director and children, etc and it is toxic to the school.
Many of the existing teachers no longer have early childhood degrees, unlike what is promised during your tour. They have had such a mass exodus of teachers from the school that they have begun hiring anyone, regardless of education.
It's interesting to see how so many "teachers" have suddenly come to the defense of the director, Thonja, after some honest reviews from parents. Yes, Goddard has SOME good teachers. Yes, I do feel my son is overall safe there. But, would I recommend it or send my child here if I had another option, NO. The director is completely unprofessional and is blatantly disrespectful and dismissive if you have concerns about your child's care. I've picked up my son in a blowout diaper and was dismissed as these things happen. Well, it shouldn't when you're paying $1800/mo for their care! This is something you would expect from a Kindercare type of facility not a "school" that pretends to be academic. Their daily sheets of what your child learned that day are laughable. They claim your child learned independence and patience because he had to cry while waiting for his food - seriously?! And, yes the other reviewers are spot-on - often times kids are in free time where they are running around. You do not get what you pay for. I have no sympathy for the director - she is a terrible role model for her daughter and teachers alike.
