Sagamore was selected to pursue STEM certification and will be STEM certified in 2015. This means extensive training for all teachers, more technology for students, after school science, computer programming and engineering clubs, improved garden and outdoor spaces and partnerships with corporations to bring real-life STEM lessons into the classrooms. This is in addition to the math team, science night and science Olympiad team the school already has. Students, teachers and parents are all really excited about this new opportunity for the school. Of course the arts program remains really strong with full time art and music teachers that provide art and music every week, an annual art show as well as band, strings, chorus and the spring musical.

Sagamore Hills Elementary school is a true community-oriented neighborhood school. Nestled within the boundaries of one of Atlanta's most beautiful, well-established neighborhoods, Sagamore Hills is a fantastic school, brimming with a team of fabulous teachers and staff supported by a strong network of active parents. Sagamore Hills teaches to all levels of educational abilities in a diverse demographic environment. In addition, the community feel is just something I have never been able to find anywhere else.

The scholastic results are outstanding, but that is only one part that I love about Sagamore Hills Elementary. As a parent to a PRE-K student, I was a bit worried how he would like it and feel in this new environment, but he loves it. As a parent I always feel welcome and there is a great positive spirit going in the school that you cannot really put your finger on. It is just a very positive atmosphere where it feels like students and staff really enjoys the school.

The diversity pie is a LIE!!!! And mentally the students and staff doesn't no how to handle certain situations dealing with different cultures and people feelings .The 5months we were there was the worst experience we ever had. O I almost forgot they will question your child without notifying you . If your not welcome there they will use their authority to force you out. I'M NOT JOKING IT HAPPENED TO ME!

We have 3 children currently at Sagamore Hills (since Kindergarten), and find the neighborhood school a wonderful environment. The size is just right for kids to try everything it offers and actively participate. Teachers and administrators know the children and help get them get what they need to be successful. They should be well prepared for middle school and the real world! Another great thing about the size is that the kids and parents don't get lost or feel like a number. Everything they do counts and gets noticed.

We have been at Sagamore for 4 years so far with 2 children. We couldnt be more satisfied. The school is very diverse and we love that all cultures are embraced. We have had positive experiences with all our teachers and our children have been well prepared. what I love most is that the teachers and principal welcome parental input, ideas and involvement. Sagamore is a true community school were we all participate in improving the education of our children.

Sagamore is a great neighborhood school! We have 2 children at the school, and they LOVE it! The kids have art and music weekly (our art teacher is outstanding!). We also have so many programs and activities, including fun family events (sock hop, dinner night, spring carnival, talent show) and opportunities for enrichment in math, reading and science! Sagamore also has strong parent involvement. And we love that our children to go to school with other children in our community!

Sagamore is an excellent elementary school. I love the fact that it is small and teachers know the children across grade levels. As an involved parent I like knowing I can volunteer in the classroom & get to know the teachers and administrative staff. There is an intimacy at Sagamore that I think larger elementary schools lack. The community is strong, the kids are great and so are the parents. We have very strong music and art programs. The children have a school wide art snow annually - it's mazing! We have choral, orchestra and band concerts throughout the year, it's quite impressive!

The Great Schools rating by far does not reflect my experience at Sagamore Hills. The teachers that my children have had were excellent. The teachers challenged my children academically but yet supported them through the process. They also fostered my children's social and emotional growth. The leadership staff is superb. The principal and her staff is always willing to hear a quick story in passing or schedule a lengthy discussion. They are very supportive of the students, parents, and faculty. I could not be more happy with my decision to send my children to Sagamore!

The parental involvement is fantastic. Many parents volunteer for all sorts of activities and it just has a community feel. I love the diversity of the school population. I am very happy with the direction of this school.

My son, now in 4th grade, has been at Sagamore Hills since Kindergarten. Sagamore Hills has extremely dedicated teachers, outstanding extracurricular programs, a stimulating and supportive academic environment that encourages academic achievement. Students represent not only diverse racial and ethnic backrounds, but also different socioeconomic levels all which are embraced.

I have been involved at Sagamore Hills elementary for 14 years. My daughter who is now 18 was in the first lottery funded pre-k class at Sagamore. Next year I will watch as my 9 year old becomes a 5th grader and then moves on to middle school. Sagamore represents all that is important to parents of elementary age children. Teachers are well prepared, administration values input, children are happy and the community is involved.

I have two children in this school and have overall been very pleased. Contrary to some of the other comments, I have found the principal to be very open. There are a lot of opportunities for children here in a lot of different areas. As with anything, there is always room to improve, but I've found that all the teachers and staff generally know all the students and take personal interest in them.

Wonderful school! The diversity is phenomenal. In my daughters kindergarten class of 17 students, there are Asians, White, Black, Caribbean and Hispanic. Sagamore also has a great range of economic backgrounds. Lots of extracurricular activities. I strongly believe that mastering Reading skills has a direct correlation in future success in other subjects and this school has a strong reading focus. The kids go to PE everyday, or just about everyday! In this age of childhood obesity, it's good to see the kids get to expend some of their energy physically.

Sagamore has a great student body - many parents are with the CDC and Emory, many others are well educated professionals, so there is a lot of academic support and encouragement at home. The school offers solid extracurriculars and great programs such as Math Superstars and Great Books. And yet ... it is the wrong school for many children, including my academically gifted child. This is the most rigid elementary school I have ever seen with rules which are unreasonable for the youngest children (and many of the older ones). All because of a principal who believes all children are the same and there is only one way to learn - skill and drill and keep your mouth shut and follow directions. His arrogance, his unwillingness to see children as individuals make this a bad choice for any children who are not 'cookie cutter.'

Sagamore is a great school. My child is learning very fast, but tends to forget after a while. There is a need for more revision in the classroom. We try to do the same at home. The principal has also to become a bit more friendly with the kids and the parents. I am sure this will improve the quality and make Sagamore the best school in Dekalb.

We recently joined this school community after our child joined the kindergarten class at Sagamore. We have been thrilled with the opportunities to participate in classroom activities. The school is warm and friendly and the principal is completely devoted to the school and the kids. We are very happy at Sagamore!

Sagamore Hills is a fantastic, truly hidden gem tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in North Decatur. Our child has flourished there under the direction of an experienced and caring teacher who has recognized his strengths and pushed him to explore his potential in ways that are both inside and outside the 'box.' Unlike some of the hypercompetitive and overcrowded nearby schools, there is ample opportunity for parent involvement here, and parent involvement is healthy and enthusiastic. Other strengths include international diversity (the school draws many children of Emory students and professors) and a strong focus on physical health. In their quest to maintain a low-profile, nurturing school environment the staff are perhaps overly ambivalent to the need for good 'PR' for the school. But overall, Sagamore is a great place for a kid to grow and learn!

Sagamore is a wonderful community school, with a diverse population of students and a talented dedicated staff in a setting that values close relationships and intimacy. We have found it to be very flexible in meeting the needs of individual students. There is practicially 100% parental involvement in the PTA, and the PTA raises thousands of dollars annually to contribute to the school in many ways, from building the new gym, to funding the school play, to providing academic enrichment such as Math Superstars and the Great Books program in 3rd-5th grades. As a major benefit, the after school program is run completely by teachers and is very affordable!

Our daughter has been in Sagamore for 3 years (K,1,2), our son is in Pre-K. We have been thrilled with the quality of their teachers throughout. For example, our daughter's K teacher created individual reading folders for every child. She now (2nd grade) reads at a 4th grade level and is learning multiplication and division. It also has an extremely diverse student body.

This school has great potential, however it is held back by a principal who is not willing to admit when he makes mistakes. These are mistakes that could be easily fixed if addressed immediately, however he chooses to sweep them under the rug. My daughter has suffered because of this as well as numerous other children whom their parents I have spoken with. Overall the quality of teachers is good, however the principal continues to back one teacher that has had complaint after complaint against. To make matters worse, this teacher moved up a grade and my daughter has her again. I requested last year not to be in her class but was told there was no other option. I've requested again this year, however my daughter has her once again. I try to be an involved parent but it gets me no where here.
