I'll just start with the Principal, Julie Taylor, who runs the school with efficiency and order. The teachers are fantastic! If you are so lucky as to go to this school, be prepared for great teaching, and get ready to jump in and be involved!

Teachers in smaller schools can effectively communicate and have access to training and support. Less likely to be lost in the crowd. Sagamore teachers have gifted-certified teachers at each level.

There are projects and daily homework in the older grades and appropriate work for the lower grades. No unrealistic expectations, but it is challenging.

The students utilize the STEM process that uses designing, planning, testing and then improving. This teaches the students to continue to improve on their designs, to persist. Determined scientists and engineers make break-throughs.

Parents, teacher and staff all are a part of this close community school. Parents are visible in all aspects of the school, creating a neighborhood. The teachers know their students, along with the younger siblings of their students, and the older ones, as well! The respect comes from the caring and closeness of the staff and parents. The students are well-behaved and closely guided. The exemplary teaching keeps kids busy and engaged.

Some specific examples of things that happen at Sagamore that create opportunities for caring, empathy and compassion are the helper programs, in which older students volunteer to assist with the younger students. The patrol program helps students care for one another along with other things such as Book Buddies, STEM buddies where older and younger students work in the garden. Our counselors facilitate other things such as a friend's lunch, where they invite students in for a special lunch, just to talk and learn about each other.

The small school atmosphere helps promote community. The STEM program has helped students bond and become in-tune with each other. There are many programs which help students of different grades and ages meet and learn from one another. This helps students develop relationships that extend beyond their "classes" and form friendships that are meaningful.

Sagamore is a close-knit community school. The teachers are receptive and want to help each child. The parent participation is awesome! I would highly recommend this school if you are looking into moving to the Sagamore neighborhood.
