to find a good place to move that will satisfy a great education for my girls and am considering moving to Marietta. Can anyone give any suggestions as to where I should start looking or if Marietta is not a nice place to live?
There have been quite a few people asking about the Atlanta area schools and where to live, lately. If you go to the upper right-hand corner of this page, above the green menu bar, where it says, "Search Community by Keyword" and enter "Atlanta" you can read many of the past discussions.19114
I grew up in Marietta and Cobb County has some really good schools, housing is a little priceir, but like the market says location location locaton, of course todays market, is preety wide open and you may actually find a really good deal, if you are looking to buy or even rent for that matter. I would look in the Kell, Lassiter, Sprayberrry, Pope or Walton High school district, Kennesaw Mountain and Wheeler High Schools are a Magnet school (We am looking and thinking about moving to Kennesaw Mountain High), I don't know if you know what a magnet school is, but they are EXCELLENT schools-Just look it up, either google it, or go to the Cobb County district website. But your child does have to qualify for a magnet school. The reason I am suggesting High school districts is because Cobb County has a lot of scools and I am assuming w/11 year olds they 6th grade or 5th, I have a 6th grader (11 year old) and if I was moving, I would consider High Schools more so then his grade right now. Hope this helps!19113
We moved from Cobb to Fulton (Roswell-Alpharetta), because other than Walton (which is nearby in East Cobb), 5 high-schools in North Fulton have higher average test scores than any other school in GA, and make the Governor's "Top-10" list. Plus, Roswell is a really cool, and richly historic city in GA19112
i grew up in Cobb Co and I still live there. I live in Kennesaw and now have 3 kids going to Cobb CO schools. It is a great place to live and the schools in Kennesaw are great (better than in Marietta in my opinion) I also have twins (they are 5 yrs old) When u get to GA, feel free to email me if you need some friends in the area... i would be glad to show you around town! sheena@sentrysurveillance.com19110
Marietta is in Cobb County and is known as having the best school system in GA. Many of the schools in Marietta and Cobb county have already achieved National School of Excellence Accreditation and some more than once. My children only attended Cobb County schools and their ages currently are 22, 18, and 11 years of age and are doing awesome. All 3 have always made excellent grades, the 22 yr old is about to graduate Ga State College with a 3.8 GPA and has been on the Dean's List for the complete 4 years and on a free Scholarship thru HOPE which you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA in order to continue to receive the funds for your education. He graduated in the top 100 of his class at Sprayberry High School (awarded Nat School of Excellence) with Honors. My 18 year old daughter just finished her SR year at Sprayberry high School one semester early (she will attend the actual graduation ceremony in May, 2010 with her class) and with above a 3.5 GPA. She wants to attend Kennesaw and be a nurse. The 11 yr old daughter is in 5th grade at another awesome Cobb county school, Kincaid Elementary at 1410 Kincaid Rd., Marietta, GA 30066. She is an "A" student, loved Kincaid and learning and the teachers, and is very comfortable at that school. She is currently being tested for the Gifted Program for about the 3rd or 4th time and has made it one step closer this time around and is thrilled about it! So yes i cannot say anything bad about just Cobb county schools in general. They are some of the best schools. My only complaint and it would not be against Cobb County but the overall school system on zero tolerance. This law goes way too far sometimes with what they want to say is zero tolerance, like a fingernail file or a belt they want to call it a weapon?. That is something that seems insane and they would get me going if they ever did do that to my child because I would never let it go! So go ahead and move to Marietta, GA in zip code 30062 and there are lots of homes you should look at. Let me know if you need any further info. Happy Holidays!!!19109
Planning to relocate to the Marietta area in the summer, looking for high schools for my 14 year old daughter. So far the answers I've read to some of the other questions have been consistant with my research of the HS's in the Cobb county district. How close would Austell, GA be for employment for myself?19108
You might also consider the Suwanee area. The two best schools in Gwinnett County are Riverside Elementary and Level Creek Elem. (Both schools of excellence, with either Platinum, Gold or Silver awards every year). Suwanee is a great place to live - I love it. (The last few years it has been voted one of the top places to live in the U.S. by Money magazine).52817
