My son has Autism. We are moving to Atlanta or surrounding areas in Dec. I want to know if anyone knows of a great public school with a good special needs dept. A lot of reviews online are bad. Us finding a house will be determined on the school he attends. Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Hi LOVINGMRSB,

Here's the place to start: http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/

Type in your zip code, and read the parent reviews. Compare the school ratings and you will be able to narrow down your search.

Good luck.

Look at Coralwood in northeast DeKalb County. It is an inclusion school that starts at age 3 but only goes up to Kindergarten.

Look into Warren T. Jackson Elementary in Atlanta Public Schools. They have 2 autism classes - 1 for high functioning, and 1 for lower functioning kids. The area around the school is very affluent. If you can't afford housing in the area,, you can live anywhere in the APS district and get transportation provided to Jackson.

Jacob's Ladder, in Roswell specializes in helping kids with autism. Parents who have tried other options rave about the improvements they see in their child. The founder's son, Jacob, is autistic and the founders own success with her son through unrelenting persistence to reach him was the impetus.
