Husband will be working in the 30329 zip. We have a 3rd grader and 6th grader. Please advise the top schools not too far of a communte from husband's work. Elementary, Middle & Highschool. We are coming from the top school district in Jacksonville, FL. Thank you.
The 3rd grader should not have a problem as there are many good public elementary schools in Atlanta with a short commute to the 30329 zip code. These are in the Atlanta Public School (APS) system. The 6th grader, however, will be the bigger issue since there are no good middle schools inside the perimeter (aka ITP). You may have to look at the John's creek area for good elementary AND middle schools but the commute will not be easy. The question you have to ask yourself is what is 'not too far.' I know of people who commute 45 mins to and hour (or more) each day just to have their kids in a good school system. Another option is to put your 6th grader in a private school, which was the recommendation I got from my kindergartener's public school teacher when I asked him about the dismal middle and high schools ITP. A few good resources for your school selection are : greatschools.org and http://www.atlantapros.com/schools/metro-atlanta-public.html
Fulton county and Cobb county have some of the best schools in Atlanta. Commute to 30326, not so much. 81449
You can start here: http://www.greatschools.org/find-schools/ Type in the zip code and you will be able to narrow down your search and decide which schools you want to tour after reading the parent reviews.

Make sure you talk to the HR department at your husband's work, and don't be afraid to contact a real estate professional--even if you're going to be renting. They're great sources of knowledge.
