Westside High School

Westside has a family atmosphere and a good education is available to every student who wants one. The teachers want their students to succeed and make the time to help them out in any way possible.

I think two or three years ago westside was a good school, but now it is completely out of control.

This is a great public high school. Why pay private tuition when a school like this is available? At Westside High School, strong classroom instruction with opportunities to excel in academics, a wide array of extra-curricular activities, and well-qualified teachers await all students. The kids willing to put forth the work will find themselves well prepared for college, jobs and with a bright future. This school is lead by an outstanding principal, who cares about each child in attendance. WHS produces young adults with a well-rounded educational experience and the ability to make a positive impact in this world. Highly recommend.

I am really glad my daughter is enrolled at Westside High School. She has honor classes and is doing great!. The quallity of her teachers and the work that is expected is very good. I am very pleased with her progress.

Academics - wonderful, there's a few teachers that need the boot, but there's always a couple of bad apples in the bunch. Extracurricular activities - plentiful. Safe - totally. Structure - definitely there. Principal & Vice Principals - somehow always available, make more time than they have for everybody: students, parents & teachers, & very encouraging to the kids on a daily basis. Parent involvement - definitely encouraged & given many opportunities, t's up to the parents. Best school in Richmond County, next to Davidson. Need other languages taught. Mission must be focus on the kid's learning. They don't waste alot of time with the needless things, like the dress code, but in turn the kids don't try so hard to go against it, it's not a big deal & so it winds up falling right into place.

Westside is the best school in the area other than Davidson Fine Arts magnet school. The size and quality of honors and AP classes is the best. There are not too many people, about 700, and it provides a somewhat family atmosphere. One downside though, athletic scholarships are scarce. So, even though Westside has great athletes as well, the coaches need to make some effort, really. Overall, great school.

Westside is a small school with a family-like atmosphere. The teachers take a personal interest in the development of the students. There are many opportunities for each young person to become involved in and show leadership in various activities. The small size and diversity force young people to work together in groups that they might not select in a larger school. I had two children who thrived in this environment.

This school was placed on the needs improvement list by No Child Left Behind Act. This school does need improvement with in many areas. Safety is an issue here, for rules in the code of conduct issued in the beginning of the school year are not followed. The guidelines for discipline are not followed, such a bullying, harassment, violence. My child was a student at the school, and experienced all three violations, and when reported, nothing was done. No disciplinary action was taken for any of the students except to be called to the office. My child was always an Honor Student until this year. An important part of life is a strong educational background, however, this school is unable to live up to my expectations, much less the expectations of the NCLB Act. My child was active in sports, clubs, etc. however, we have removed our child and placed him in a private College Preparatory School. My husband and I both took a genuine interest in activities at the school, however, my child deserves a certain standard of education, and Westside does not provide it. Our concern is this, when a child is on the 'Honor Roll', according to who's standards? If the school is ranking low, could 'Honor' roll at this school be equivelent to a 'C' at a higher performing school?
