the teachers are very caring peopleand the principal is just great although he is new this year,he has really lift the moral.
I feel that if you are looking for school that will provide your child(ren) with a great education Meadowbrool Elementary is the place to be. Many have judged the school by it's outter body, but I challenge you to judge the inner body, by getting involved in the classrooms, homework, and extra activities. I promise you that you will develop a new attitude about something that you are truley apart of.
My son attend Meadowbrook Elementary 2006-2007 school year, his teacher attendance was horrible she didn't care and the principal didn't act on the job. Now we are worry about tah grade and this summer we are working hard with him to make sure the thing he should have learn in 4th he learn to be able to pass with go grade for 5th. Please don't let your child continue to remained in a class that going no where !
When I first came to Augusta I was not impressed by the look of the school, inside or out. What did impress me was the teachers willingness to get involved with my child to help him on things that he was behind in to get caught up with the rest of the class. She took time out to work with him on his own. I got phone calls at my home on a regular basis from his teacher and her assistant, to update me on his progress. My son is now in his second year at meadowbrook as is making straight A's!!!!
the academic programs seems to be okay. I just have a problem with how long it takes to get a child help in school when they start. Normally the child has to be failing pretty bad for about 2 or 3 6 weeks before any thing happens and then a meeting has to be set up to see if you child qualifies for other classes that may not even be available. Which means the child still has no help. I would like to see more tutoring after school at the schools instead of dances and games. there are a lot of parents that cannot help their children with their homework and most kids come home with homework that has no complete instructions. Most excuses I get is that the child should know what to do because they just did it in class.
This school is basically worthless because the principal and most teachers have absolutely no empathy for the students. The students are the enemy. It's almost like they hate children. They expect the students to behave like they are in Grad School. I have had numerous meetings with the principal and she does not care. The teachers tell the students the day before if they are having a test tomorrow. imagine chapter test tomorrow. Inconsistent Uniform policy is used to abuse students you can wear the same clothes for 5 weeks then get written up for it based on the mood of the fashion police. I want to organize a concerned parents group to take action, sign petitions and force resignations of uncaring teachers, and principals. The standards for students are high but the standards for teaching is 'give me a body'.
I am new to the school and can't really comment on much but my over all feeling is that the 'fun' in learning has been removed. When walking in the halls I hear teachers speaking to the children in a military style of ordering them not to talk or to walk single file. I don't get a warm, loving feeling. I don't see any extracurricular activities. My child's teacher is however exceptional. She has shown me a caring and understanding side that I feel she shares with her class. She is the only reason why my child has remained in this school for the remainder of the year. If someone could give me reasons why I should have my child attend this school again next year I would greatly appreciate it.
