I'm currently a student at this school and i love it, its definately not rated 10 out of 10 for nothing. It's not just the teachers who make up this wonderful school its the students, we work harder than they do (at times). Overall I love my school and I'm glad to be apart of it!!!!!!!!! Go DFA!!!!!!!!!!
My daughter has been at Davidson for two years and in the first year , she struggled some. She is now starting her eight grade year and she is achieving much more than I thought she ever would. The opportunity is there for her if she is willing to work hard. The fine arts is excellent, but some of the academic instructors shouldn't have a place to teach our children at Davidson Fine Arts.
Great liberal arts high school. Every child I know that has graduated from this school has had no trouble getting into top state and private high education institutions.
As the parent of a Davidson graduate who has gone on to film school, I can't say enough about the wonderful family atmosphere at Davidson. I do take exception with some of the other reviewers who complained that there was not enough 'academic help' available to students. My son struggled in the 6th grade adjusting to the rigorous demands and all of his teachers as well as the principal were there to help us get through that difficult period. He was able to excell academically and creatively in a school that helped him find his passion. On the weekends, our home looked like the United Nations - kids from every race, religion and economic background having fun and learning about each other. Relationships like the ones my son formed will help our community come together when these boys are in leadership positions.
As a parent of 2 DFA graduates, I rate this school 5 stars! Davidson continually wins the top school in the state of Georgia. High academic and fine arts standards blend to make outstanding, college-ready graduates. Since the standards are high, it is not the best school for all students. However, for college-bound students, it is an excellent choice.
As a graduate and now a current teacher I can attest to the rigor of the curriculum, support of the faculty and staff, and overall wonderful nature of this school. Yes, the work is demanding and the staff has extremely high expectations. However, the children's education is the most important factor in everything. I feel as if this is my home, my family. Every time I compare a Davidson performance to those of professional companies, I realize that there is more talent concentrated in this school than in many of our state's professional companies. I am grateful for every minute that I get to spend there as an instructor and as an alumnus.
This is the greatest school ever! I am in my first year here and have loved every minute. Davidson deserves all its recognition as one of the best schools in Georgia!
Graduated 2006 and I loved it...many values that are instilled in me today I learned from my instructors at DFA!
They attend Davidson and truly enjoy the environment. Students want to learn and are engaged in lessons being presented. The fine arts programs are awesome! I am proud of my child for putting forth so much effort, and it has been a challenging learning experience this year. Some of the teachers didn't bother to make the transition period for the students less stressful. These students were bombarded with homework, and some of it was never checked. There is a lack of concern from some of the teachers to help students who may not fit their expectations of a Davidson student, so therefore these students may feel they are not valued, or a decision is made to return to their zone schools feeling they were not good enough for Davidson.
This is an excellent school however the support of the staff for students that struggle is minimal. Davidson is very protective of its reputation and should do a little more to assist students. The chosen tactic of the new principal is to threaten removing the child from the school which often causes panic and stress in students. Davidson is a great choice however be prepared for letters 'reminding' you that it is a privilege to attend and not much support for those that are not the cream of the crop.
Davidson Fine Arts is on of the top magnet schools in the country. It has recieved multiple awards for many things such as, School of Excellence, The Blue Ribbon School, and the Grammy award. It is a college prep school therefore students will be prepared and know what to expect when they further their education in college. The fine fine arts areas include music, dance, drama, and art. The different departments go on trips to compete and share their talents with others. The drama department has just returned from Scotland where they performed 'Dark of the Moon' and recieved four stars out of five. Also every year the band and orchestra department attends Fiestaval which is held in different states. They compete against other schools from many different states.Last year both groups brought back the award for the highest scores. As far as parent involvement, there are multiple parents that help out.
Davidson is a wonderful school. It educates children in the regulars such as Math, Science, etc. But, also in the fine arts which include Drama, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, and Vocals. This school has been named the Grammy Signature school of 2003-2004. This school takes no slake from the students at all. The parents are very involved in the PTA as well as just helping around the school.
Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School is school that pushes the envolope on education and especially the Fine Arts area. This school is reknowned for its hard acedemic challenges and has the highest SAT scores every year. Davidson specializes in the world of art! Wether you be interested in desinging, acting, musical theatre, directing, band, orchestra, paino, tap & jazz, african dance, ballet, modern dance, ceramics, sketching, & much more. Those who meander through the halls at Davidson know that are going to the #1 school in Georgia and it is in the top 16 Magnet schools in the country. Students here thrive in a place where there are no bullying or other inconsistancies as in other schools! Davidson Fine Arts (DFA) is smaller comprehensive learning centre where everyone knows everyone esle. These passionate kids, who attend DFA, have attend gone further to Julliard, Oberlin, University of Chicago (where the most Nobel Prize winners have attended), and all the Ivey Leagues. Racial Diversity is stromgly implemented! Here people dont see your color, but rather your talent. DFA's Chamber Orchestra is so magnificent that were invited to play at Carnegie Hall this year! The Chorale (top chorus) has been selected to harmonize at an event where over hundereds of school's chorus groups auditoioned. Chorale was of the 10 to get in! Davidson is home the award winning Dramatic Arts & Tech team. And Davidson is well known for its Visual Arts. Whenever someone asks what school you go and you reply Davidson, they always say 'That's the smart school.'
Going to Davidson was the best decision I ever made. It really helped me prepare for college and I miss the environment terribly. Some of my mentors and teachers there are still my friends and I go back to help out often. I would recommend anyone sending their child there if they can handle the workload.
