I think Garrett is a okay school .. I've been here since the 6th grade and i've been in the advanced placement classes sine, but in sixth grade we had 3 wonderful teachers but when we were in the 7th grade they were all gone we had 3 teachers. They are still here in my 8th grade year we want them all gone they dont teach us anything , they are very rude , disrespectful and dishonest. I am looking into going to Lindley or East Cobb for the rest of my 8th grade year. im just being completely honest.
I honestly think that Garrett middle school should have some changes done to it, I don't like the way how students act during school hours and how there aren't any expectations and/ or organization. What I'm trying to figure out is why isn't there any signs in the hallway to tell where what class is where?
Garrett is the best school you can ever go to because everybody is supportive to the needs of others and to the community. I remember, in 6th grade I was having a hard time with math due to Autism in 2011 . I was definitely falling behind. Luckily, I asked for my friends and caseworkers help and now I'm an honor roll student thanks to everybody. Did you know that there's a Men Of Destiny group that shows you how to be a gentlemen, role model, and shows you how to complete goals without messing up in Mr.Perry's classroom in 8th grade. Also, all of you parents that still think teachers and administrators worry only about their pay checks are wrong. Why because my 7th grade teachers Mrs. Tatum, Mr.Fields,Mrs.Jenkins, Mr.Mcgahey,Mr. Taylor, Mrs.Shivers, Mrs.Dabrio, Mrs.Howard, and Mr.Howard all care about the students education. Also, Mrs.Amulet, Mrs. Singleton, Officer Meeks, Mr. Parker,Mrs.Carter,Mr. Defreezer, and our principal Dr. Harris always make sure that everybody's behavior is in line for the entire school year.~ Caleb Pierce
I would never recommend this school for anyone! I am aiming hard to have my children away from this district before the beginning of a new school year. The teachers amd some administration is very unprofessional! My child grades has slipped and his whole outlook has changed. It has been told to me that the school is flooded with drugs and gangs . The administration so busy trying to make themselves look good they make complaints and suspend the kids who are really no big threat! They should take the time and effort to find the bigger problems and correct them. They should also make some of those teachers go back and take some refresher courses maybe the students would do better academically! Don't get me wrong there are some staff who are there cause they love their jobs but there are also those who are just there for a pay check! Horrible school low grades, low budget teachers, administration and no extra curriculum activities...
This school is horrible. In sixth grade I was bullied, and when i went to the consular she did nothing. The 7th grade administrator will give you OSS (out of school suspension) for any reason (even over things she's not allowed to do). Before I came to this school I was an A/B student, now because of horrible teachers I'm now a B/C student with the occasional A..I have all advanced/gifted classes, and there are only a few high quality teachers at this school. Some of the teachers, are very disorganized, and do not know what they're teaching. There are also a lot of fights monthly. In February there were 7 fights alone. The lunch and breakfast are actually very good, but very greasy. We have a very good principal. Overall I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.I cant wait till I go to a different school for 8th grade.
Ok. Unless you go to the school you really don't know what's going on. Even the parents don't know every thing that is going on. There is alot of drama but we still do great academic wise. But you will find drama anywhere you go. We are teens you can't expect us to get along with every one we see. We have made ayp for many years now. More years then cooper who, for some reason i can't think of, got a better score on greatschools then garrett. Of course Garret isn't perfect but it's pretty good if you think about it.
My Niece, Kara attends this school. Since she began this school in the 6th grade they have showed great interest in helping her achieve her goals. Every teacher ,councelor and Deans help. She has florishished under there tutorial. She has become a canadite for a magnate program and is encouraged and tutored by te staff their to achieve her goal of becoming a vetanarian. T^hey have ensured that she is prepared to enter high school with all the knowledge and skills she needs t succede. This school not only teached the children academics but also guides them to become successful citizens and to give back to their community
Garrett has the best teacher's and staff. Their academics are top notch
I love Garrett because the parents, teachers and students are truly making an effort to make Garrett great!
this school has the best crct test results in GA. eventhough my son doesent get much homework, he still gets good grades.
This school is failing kids with a substandard teaching staff and yet another minority administration. Hopefully the coming budget cuts will weed out some of the nonperforming staff and teachers. If I afford to move I would, these schools in the southern part of the county are infested with drugs, gangs and less than involved 'demographic' groups.
School provide a plan to prepare and obtain efficient results for standardize tests, but nothing for day to day growth. If you child has a passion for a particular area of education such as Science, Garrett does not provide a science club, science projects, nor is involved with science fairs. We have not found passionate for learning from staff and have notice laziness with several teachers; until the parent force their concern for results, many teachers does not care if child fail or succeed. Staff is quick to discipline for the smallest incident, but NEVER contact you when improvement, etc is obtained; often I wonder does staff remember being a child. I would like to see a plan where children are challenge and opportunities are available to get the best from the environment to prepare children for high school. Oh, what happen to homework because homework is not a high on the list? Now with the cuts in Cobb to balance the budget, I m more concern and we have 2 years to go!
Garrett is great in all aspects! My child's teachers got her CRCTs up to EXCEEDING! And she actually loves learning and doing her best. She never was an honor roll student until she got to Garrett!
This is a wonderful school. I like this school because they teach students to act in an orderly manner. They also stay on the subject which they teach. Thanks Dr.Harris
The school does as little as possible beyond cramming for the CRCT(NCLB required state test). My child has never even been assigned a science fair project. BTW, over 70% fail the science portion of the CRCT. Yet, these incompetent teachers are retained year after year. Their idea of grades is 100 for a signed agenda. Parents are surprised when the child fails the test, yet earns good grades. The test isn't even rigorous. Unfortunately, the county has a restrictive transfer policy, or these folks would be in the unemployment line. And I agree w/ another poster-the principal is never on the premises.
This school does not have enough envovlment for the stidents to particpate in. I feel as a parent cobb county is not one of the best.
This School really needs to start getting more after school programs. The teachers arent happy. It seems as though when a child in class makes a small remark it is punished more than if a student says a VERY unapropiate remark to another student. The principle is never to be found either. They really need to get this school in ORDER, NOW!
If you do not take the time to review and work with your child, you cannot expect the best. The staff at Garrett works with what we, the parents, send to them. They work very hard to make a difference in all of the kids lives throughout the school year.
